Light from Deathnote. Even though L was cool Light was insane, and that made him awesome.

I think Light is a duchbag. Not only do I disagree with his view of justice, but when I saw this scene http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcvIxTVafkM [ this scene] I hated him so insanly much that I couldn't stand it.

I tend to look down on society, so I could relate to him in alot of ways.

Have you read the manga?

Because there's an even better character in there, a vampire who uses martial arts and a sword, he kicks ass. Gantz calls him "host samurai".

My favorite character is Mugen from Samurai Champloo. I think Mugen is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills people and doesn't afraid of anything!

I've read a little of it, but haven't gotten very far.

In no particular order:

Guts from Berserk - Not only did his best friend betray him, but he is seen as the villain by the rest of the world because he leaves a pile of corpses in his wake. He's also the Anti-Christ (in Berserk's world, anyway) in that he wants to kill the Messiah (said best friend) to the people of Midland. He's gone through more, but you'll just have to read the manga to find out. I'd hate to spoil a good story.

Manji from Blade of the Immortal - gifted with Immortality, he decides that eternal life (or rather, really, really slow aging and super human regeneration) is boring and pledges to kill 1000 evil men so that his "curse" would be lifted. His immortality really makes for great combat situations. Really though, Blade of the Immortal could easily fill a list for my favorites.

There are many others, but I'm feeling lazy at the moment.

Lelocuh/Zero from Code Geass, hands down.
partially because he is a genius, witty, clever, but does have his faults.
Also it would be pretty cool to be him, which is a good trait for a character in anything.
