Higurashi no naku kuro ni, such violence and gore, I loved season one, season two not as much because there was less of that.

Also Outlaw Star, Aisha was the best character ever, he had that crazy I can handle everything and money is a priority money mentality, with a godly fighting power to boot.

I don't watch "Anime" very often, I just consider "Anime" another cartoon like everything else, but my favourite Japanese cartoon is Paranoia Agent, it's a wonderful psychological mystery that you all must watch.
there is a difference between eastern and western animation.

1. Air TV (Dub for Dream and Air arcs, sub for Summer arc)
2. Clannad & After Story (Sub for now, until I've heard the full dub in June)
3. Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (Kai)(Sub, only because I haven't listened to the dub for all season 1 episodes)
4. Katanagatari (Only three episodes aired so far but it's pure genius)(Sub)
5. Code Geass (Dub)
6. R.O.D. the TV (Dub)
7. Lucky Star (This is one in which I've found the dub somehow manages to improve and be better)
8. Eureka Seven (Dub)
9. .hack//SIGN (Dub)
10. FLCL (Dub)

And if someone can name the actress that is in each of my top four favorite shows AND name the character, you get brownie points from me. :D

To comment, Flapjack is quite hit and miss with it being closer to miss 75% of the time and hit 25%...

But I've seen the two early previews for Adventure Time and frankly, I find it fantastic. It's got a unique and simplistic art style and the writing is actually very good. Plus, it seems like cartoon network is letting them get away with some jokes that would completely go over kids heads.

Also, other two favorite cartoons are Chowder (Which is good three out of four times...) and Ed, Edd and Eddy (Which may be because I started watching it when I was ten, but it still has a unique charm I love to this day).

My favourite anime TV series is SaiKano. It will rip out your heart and stomp on it. If you've never heard of it then PLEASE take my advice- don't look it up, don't find out anything about it, don't even learn what the english title is. Just download the first episode or get a friend to show you it on DVD while hiding the box and you avert your eyes from the DVD menu until you get to the end of that episode. It will BLOW YOUR MIND. (Unless you hate love stories, you macho, hard-case twat.)
Length of series? And most importantly, does it have a happy ending? Seen far, far too many angsty romance series that have poor endings recently.
13 episodes. And I guess it's no spoiler to tell you that no it does NOT have a happy. Ending. Well, it sort of does, in a very unhappy way. It's complicated. It's also very, VERY good. Take my word for it, I've been watching anime for over 10 years now.

Look, just watch the first episode and MAKE SURE you don't find out about the premise of the series first. It'll spoil one of the best twists ever otherwise. After that, you can decide whether or not to finish watching it. (If you want it to have a happy ending you can pretend it just ends with episode 10. People have actually done that.)

Trigun, spaghetti western with a few twists and one of the coolest lead characters in anime.

Part of the fun in the first half of the series is figuring out what the heck Vash's deal is, couple that with some awesome action scenes and a bit of comedy too and you have a great show.
That and Cowboy Bebop, man I haven't seen those in forever

Oh why not say 6666th post, woo hoo

There are a lot of amazing ones (Orphen, Full Metal Alchemist, Death Note, etc.), but I have to choose.

Clannad. This show was fully of great humor, fantastic characters, and genuine emotion. EVERYONE cries for like the last half of After Story (the second and final season). Amazing show that will kill you emotionally and make you cry in every movie you watch afterward. Soooo good.

Death Note is the only anime I could ever say I enjoyed without guilt.

Although, judging simply by the soundtrack, Cowboy Bebop looks right up my alley.

Code Geass, all the way.
It had the mechs i like, the Deathnote Kira-like Good guy, the twisting storyline with the best ending i have ever seen, beautiful artwork, great voice acting (Lelouch was freaking pheenominal) and sound effects, loveable characters and it didn't overstay its welcome.
All in all, i think that, as far as Anime's go, Code geass is one of teh better ones in recent memory. In a way, with all of the brightly coloured mechs and such, i reminded me a little of Halo.
"The only ones who should kill, are those who are prepared to be killed" thats a lesson some of our politicians, who send young men and women out to kill and die, need to understand.

Favorite Action: Busou Renkin - Few people seem to have seen this and fewer seem to have liked it as much as I do. Maybe it's my comic book background that makes me like it. The villains are so campy and retarded I can't help but love them.
I really enjoyed Busou Renkin. It knew waht it was, a "shouty-powers" anime, and it never tried to be anything different. Besides, it had a good romance sub plot that didn't just get glossed over or coyly avoided, but was actaully explored. That, and i agree with the badguy thing. Pappilion is the fruitiest bad guy i have ever seen, and also one of the coolest.

I wonder why they keep giving such awesome characters to that same guy who did amuro ray, light Yagami, Setsuna F Seiei, Lan Hikari and way to many other roles. i hate his acting, it is dry and really kinda standard. it isn't bad... well.. actaully yeah it is bad, it sucks when the supporting characters have more talent than the lead.
If you want to see some truely, TRULY good voice acting, and voice-to-character matches, i would suggest watching SaiYuki (not reloaded, and not the first couple episodes, they get in the groove later on). FMA was pretty good too, and even code geass wasn't horrible. But for teh most part... i just have to say that the Anime's are made by teh Japanese, for Japanese voices. It is not a matter of fanboyism, it is simply a matter of style.

Series: Cowboy Bebop

Movie: Kaze no Tani no Nausicaa (or Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind)

...Nausicaa is perfect... but if Miyazaki decided to do a series based of the manga... that would be perfecter (yes... in that instance multiple degrees of perfection would exist).

"Spice & Wolf" (subbed, not because the dub is bad, but because the original voice acting is so incredibly good), for it's excellent character portrayal and interaction, calm pacing, beautiful visual style, and the fact that it's not afraid to challenge viewers mentally with academical economic concepts to give a larger frame (and a sense of cunning and drama) to what would at first appear as mundane transactions. It's definitely a case of niché appeal though.

I'm increasingly falling in love with Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (subbed, as I saw the first 16 episodes that way, and just can't imagine the characters any other way now: the dub seems fine if you start out with it) though, a true mystery and thematic clash if ever there was one. Currently, it's my runner-up, but once I see Kai and get to se how (and if) it'll all make any sense, it may be the most masterful and complex story I've ever seen.

Death note, at least the first 2/3 of it (Dubbed, because I think for once they've nailed it with that one), Slayers (dubbed, as the subtitles sucks) and Elfen Lied (subbed as I saw the first 8 episodes that way) are also a lot of fun, although each for complete different reasons.

hmm SaiYuki, shall give it a watch lol, thanks, and yes Light and Misa's voice were terrible, Misa was like JUST STFU PLZ, and yes i agree with the japanese voice acting being better, nothing wrong with subbed anime, sounds better and the subs actually make more sense than some of the english translations

I really hate people who will not watch an anime because they have to read the subtitles arghhh

Whereas normally I can't choose a favourite for anything, anime is one thing I can choose a favourite for.
And that favourite is Higurashi no Naku Koro ni and the second season, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni Kai.
Honourable mentions goes to Elfen Lied.
I find them all funny, and all are bloody. All great animes.

I actually speak a fair bit of Japanese, so I prefer subs both for the "purity" and for the practice.

Favorite anime movie: Princess Mononoke. I love everything by Studio Ghibli (except "Only Yesterday" and "The Ocean Waves", but nobody's perfect) but Mononoke's my favorite. Epic story, all sorts of nifty spirits and mythical creatures, complex characters (I'm still trying to figure out Lady Eboshi's deal) and the absolutely stunning visuals for which Hayao Miyazaki's work is justly known.

My favorite series has to be Escaflowne. It's got some really nifty ideas, like destiny-altering machines and intensified luck soldiers, and the setting has a little bit of something for everyone, whether you like giant mech fights or magical girls or prettyboy psychopaths or furries or medieval romance or Sir Isaac Newton.
Also, Yoko Kanno wrote pretty much all of the music for it (same person who did Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: SAC and others), and the opening song got me interested in the Japanese language pretty much by itself. It's no exaggeration to say that Escaflowne changed my life.
