I'm leveling a sunbro knight right now, but with the pyromancer I used to beat the game, it was +15 iaito, DEX scaled, with magic and miracle buffing. I adore the look, feel, and moveset of the asian/DEX weapons and I hope there's more of them in DS2. When I leveled that sword, I decided I liked it better 2-handed and trained myself to not need the shield. I had to wear lighter armor to be able to get the hell out of the way, but I found the game even more fun playing it that way.

Currently using the Balder Side Sword, but haven't really settled on a favourite yet. I do love the look of the Black Knight Sword but it doesn't fit my play style or stats.

Ever since I leveled up my Strength and Dexterity to wield the Black Knight Sword I nicked from that guy I incinerated under the bridge in the Undead Burg we've been inseparable! The only downsides are that it takes a while before you can get a hit in, which I've sort of adapted to, and I've only found one piece of Twinkling Titanite thus far (in Anor Londo).
Might try to look for a weapon which does damage a bit faster and is easier to upgrade but I'm not in much of a hurry.
You know where Seath the Scaleless lived until you finished him off?

In that antechamber of sorts, there be cockles and mussles and sea horsies.

Actually, just a bunch of killer clams. Kill'em all. Use bonfire, have a cup of tea. Rinse, repeat. Get twinkly twinks. Enjoy.

I use the Zweihander why arse around with magic and knives when you can crush your most foes with two swings.

Also I am having real difficulty with the "4" kings they are called the four kings but there are about 5 of the bastards really. Can anyone give me any tips on how to beat them?

Not much good for me at the moment since I'm still stuck in Anor Londo but thanks for the heads up!

Right Hand: Iaito +15 OR Black Knight Halberd +5 (two-handed 90% of the time)
Left Hand: Black Knight Shield or Silver Knight Shield (depends on environment & lighting) OR that special bow from that special guy, made truly special with it being fully upgraded. You know what I mean... if you don't, FIND OUT.

Also, I like to have Queelag's Furysword in my left hand when I'm mainhanding a dagger, as the animations keep me happy and the game feels quite different already. Of course, it's what I currently consider the most sexy off-hand thing to wield for parrying purposes - and deflecting projectiles of all sorts.

When required, I switch this setup to include either the pyro glove (main hand) or some clerical voodoo doll (off hand). But I like my fights to end bloody, and I like my meat raw. I really don't care much for the smell of burnt hair and molten flesh.

When I feel like taking a break, I just get a bunch of catalysts and set the world on fire. With ice. How 'bout that?

As a Level 35 Cleric (and having accidentally killed the first merchant in the game), I have used the Uchigatana and a variety of shields thus far, and that has served me very well indeed.

Big fan of the Zweihander and Claymore. Also do like using the standard longsword and some curved swords.
Don't really like using the more "Dex-y" Dex weapons though. BSS, rapier, even katanas to an extent. Just don't cut it for me.

I've been experimenting with weapons.

For my first playthrough I used the regular longsword and the Black Knight Sword.
For my second playthrough I used the warpick.
For my third playthrough I used the broadsword and later switched to the Sunlight Straightsword.

Then I just started trying everything with my third character, and I'm addicted to the Halberd the Two-Handed R2 is like a dance to me.

I try to make my armor and weapons match, so I'm constantly switching stuff around. Might try a whip build soon.

So it seems the Drake Sword is a popular choice
It's only popular in the beginning because it does high damage and is easy to obtain, but it's damage never goes up. Your strength can be 99 and it will still only do 300 damage.

and for those who use two handers how do you get over the whole not being able to block as well?
There's no weapon that HAS to be two-handed (provided you have the basic strength requirements). But people without shields do their best to not get hit and/or wear good armor.

With FaP Ring and Havel's ring and 40 END you can fast roll with a ton of combinations.

The first merchant isn't that useful. It doesn't hurt to kill him for early access to the Uchigatana. The difference between the uchigatana and the drake sword is that the drake sword doesn't scale well and so becomes impractical after sen's fortress, where as a fully upgraded uchigatana is a powerful weapon in end game pve and pvp.

The claymore is as well rounded as the uchigatana. I would recommend it if you don't mind spending the extra souls for 16 strength.

GreatSwords and halberds are my choice. Anything with good reach and power, even if it comes at the cost of a little speed. I recently picked up a giants halberd, it's got good potential to be a powerful weapon with a little upgrading but it's so damn heavy even with Havals ring.

I like a lot of the weapons in Dark Souls, but a some of my favorite weapons are the Scythe, the Balder Side Sword, Ricard's Rapier, and the standard long sword. All of them have fairly good move sets and do good damage

Crest Shield for blocking their magic attacks, zerg them the hell down. Use a Green Blossom for Stamina, maybe a Resin for some additional damage (unless your zweihander is an elemental one of course) Each King has his own HP bar, so you can kill them before more than 1 shows up. But you have to be quick, a 2nd King isn't the end of the world, but 3 gets dangerous. 4... you're pretty much screwed.

Basically it is a dps(damage per second) fight. You want to kill each king as fast as possible before the next one spawns. The closer you are to a king, the less damage it will do. Most of its attacks will go right over you if you keep moving around one of them too. Just back off when he starts to do his aoe(area of effect) attack. That is pretty much all there is to killing them. If you feel you are not doing enough damage to them, perhaps you should upgrade your weapon, or use some resin/buffs on your weapon if possible?

As for the topic at hand, for dex builds, I favor the uchigatana. For strength I like to use the black knights great axe or the zweihander, oh yes. For Int builds I like the moonlight butterfly horn and the moonlight great sword.

Aah 4 kings. Just another great example of the game devs wanting to troll you. Every single fight has a strategy or requires you to be careful and take it slow, and then suddenly the game punishes you for it.

Favorite weapon.. that's a tough one. Do you mean favorite as in most effective, or favorite as in the one i want to use the most.
For the first i loved using the demon great machete for its massive power. Far better than the Zweihander.
For the second i really really wanted to use priscillas dagger. It looks so fancy with its spinning combos, but the game relies too much on poise and the strong attack doesn't even stunlock the enemy.

But i guess if i had to pick one it would be the Murakumo. All the greatness of giant greatswords + all the greatness of curved swords. It's hard to build for but it stunlocks everything.

For PvP-related things I'll go with the longsword, it's fast and has an excellent move-set which is what you need there.

For PvE-related things a Demon's Greataxe is amazing. Enemies generally don't dodge and they blindly hit your shield so having a slow but extremely powerful weapon works well. There's no weapon in the game that hits harder than this one, you're killing almost everything save bosses in one or two hits.

I like the spear/halberd moveset because it offers great range and versatility, but those weapons usually don't do enough damage for me, so I go for the claymore instead. It's too slow for my tastes, but very satisfying to land a hit, and it has a great heavy attack.
