I have a question for the more experienced Dark Souls players in this thread...

Currently I'm at a point where I've done all of the Undead Burg/Parish, I've done most of Darkroot Garden/Basin (I have not fought the Wolf yet, the big cats keep scaring me off), and I've done the lower Burg. I've not gone into the Depths yet but I'm considering trying that next.

From the advice of people in the thread I made, I went and got the Drake Sword, and it's been fantastic. But I'm playing a Cleric/Paladin type character, and frankly it looks kind of evil. How long would it take for a Divine Claymore to be as effective as my Drake Sword? How high would my Faith need to be? I currently have 18 STR, 18 DEX, and 15 Faith.
Can't help you with your question but if you buy the Crest of Artorias off the blacksmith in Undead Parish for 20,000 souls you can open that big door in Darkroot Garden and avoid the big cats, although if you do go that route then prepare to be attacked by a few NPC's. Which is easier is up to you but frankly I found those big cats to be a right ****.

Personally, I two-hand a Divine Claymore, with lightning spears and heal spells ready. Never use a shield, swag.

The chaos blade is probably my personal favorite. Its got great damage but also requires greater skill use because you loose some life with every swing.

My second favorite is probably the stone greatsword because it has good damage, a good moveset, and the Tranquil walk of peace R2 is pretty awesome in PVP.

Although my favorite character is still my Black iron build. Basicly hes a Darkmoon blade and strength build guy who uses the full black iron set, black knight shield/target shield, and a flaming greatsword (with stone greatsword backup).

Although my most played character is easily my Sunbro. He's a str/faith build that wears the paladin set, Solaire's shield, and uses the canvas talisman and stone greatsword/lightning claymore. Obviously being a sun bro I go somewhere, put down my sign, and just help people with their boss fights. Plus I get into some good PVP from time to time where my miracles mess up invaders

Another fun little build I play on occassion is my Darkwraith. Shes a level 8 character dressed in the wanderers hood, armor of thorns, guantlets of thorns, gold hemmed skirt, and uses the chaos blade and Dragon crest shield. With this character I invade mostly low level areas and before I mercilessly hunt down the master of that world I usually drop them a present like black knight weapons (also I run with unupgraded gear to make it more fair on invadees)

After I get my minimum level, base unupgraded gear, unupgraded weapon playthrough done Im going to be trying out a new Darkmoon faith build but focus on dexterity this time. I see this as a PVP character rocking the balder side sword/silver knight shield and wearing havels legs/gauntlets with some light chest and no head piece. I havnt worked out the details yet but I think he/she's going to be a fast roller with lots of miracles

Another build I want to do is one based around the dragon bone fist, thorn armor, and sorceries but theres literally no possible way to use the dark wood grain ring with that setup at soul level 120. So I dont know how well thats going to work out. Maybe I should just start a soul level 200 PVP league?

Crest Shield for blocking their magic attacks, zerg them the hell down. Use a Green Blossom for Stamina, maybe a Resin for some additional damage (unless your zweihander is an elemental one of course) Each King has his own HP bar, so you can kill them before more than 1 shows up. But you have to be quick, a 2nd King isn't the end of the world, but 3 gets dangerous. 4... you're pretty much screwed.

Thank's but what is zerging? (I am assuming it is a verb) I will definitely use some of my gold pine resin though thanks for reminding me.

Basically it is a dps(damage per second) fight. You want to kill each king as fast as possible before the next one spawns. The closer you are to a king, the less damage it will do. Most of its attacks will go right over you if you keep moving around one of them too. Just back off when he starts to do his aoe(area of effect) attack. That is pretty much all there is to killing them. If you feel you are not doing enough damage to them, perhaps you should upgrade your weapon, or use some resin/buffs on your weapon if possible?
Yeah the problem with being so close to the kings is they pick you up and start chewing on your head. Should I circle them or something? I do a decent amount of damage because my Zweihander is +15, so it cant really be improved much unless I made it elemental, but I cant' be bothered just yet.

thanks guys you were a big help, I'll keep moving and use some resin :)

Thanks for the tips :)
Keep moving a bit is a good idea. For the most part, you can just roll under every sword swing. The projectile attack that he does homes in on you, and it is likely that you will get hit because it tends to circle back on you from behind; make sure you are at top health in case this happens. As for his grab move, it has a similar tell to his area of effect attack, and both can be dodged by moving behind him or backing off. I suggest you move behind him as it is easier and he has a less chance of hitting you. Aside from that, just do your best to kill each one as fast as possible.

If you are comfortable with your dodging skills, going 2h for him with your zweihander could help. I am sure you know that though. Best of luck! With skill and some luck on your side, hopefully you wont need these tips for the boss by the time you read my reply.

It would depend on how upgraded the divine claymore is. If you are going the divine path, rather than the occult path, the claymore will get a faith scaling of B at +10. If you are going occult(which is quite good for humanoid opponents and gods) you get a faith scaling of B as soon as you turn it occult, and an A at +4 to occult. Usually any weapon +5 or higher will do more damage than the drake sword because of stat scaling. I am unsure of the specific faith required though.

Frankly if you are going towards a faith build, you want to get your strength to where you can wield the weapons you want to wield, then just focus on faith as your main damage stat. Pour some extra points into endurance(for extra stamina and the ability to wear heavier armors without being burdened) and vitality for that sweet, sweet extra health. Bam, you are a faithful paladin purging the demon filth from a former great kingdom.

So it seems the Drake Sword is a popular choice and for those who use two handers how do you get over the whole not being able to block as well?
The Drake Sword is a Disc 1 Nuke. It's an excellent weapon at the beginning of the game, however its usefulness really diminishes once you've gotten past Blighttown. As for Two-handing, it's not that bad. I got a lot better at Two-Handing when I tried to go for dual-wielding right off the get-go and had no secondary weapon to parry with. All it comes down to is baiting your enemy into striking and attacking while its defenses are wide open.

My favorite weapon type would be the Greatsword(Demon's Souls Northern Regalia user here). They're slower than Longswords, obviously, but the power and the animations make that up more than enough for me. They have a wide horizontal reach for crowd control situations and when you need to strike something up high, wielding it with two hands grants you a high vertical slash(especially with the longer ones like the Obsidian Greatsword). Greataxes do the exact same thing, they're just a smidge slower, but not much. But I made my character into a dual-wielder and I'm enjoying my Chaos Blade(primary)+Gold Tracer(secondary) combo.

Not to mention explosions and really high damage for the stat requirements on the Obsidian Greatsword. Right now my favourite weapon. Hits like a truck, and can be wielded at low levels. I love helping people kill Ornstein and Smough with that thing.
It's also a very versatile weapon, stat-wise. I can't remember the req right now, but when fully upgraded it's a Greatsword with 450 AR. Now, what makes it special is it's the only Dragon Weapon in the game that's enchantable. Just imagine a Spellsword or Paladin build applying Crystal Magic Weapon or Sunlight Weapon to that bad boy.

I like the Halberds and Lances in the game. Ornstein's weapon is amazingly useful in a lot of situations when it is properly placed in the build. Other than that I enjoyed the easy mode drake sword but I think one of the most fun weapons to use is the abyss great sword.

I go with faith fencer builds usually. My main uses a +15 Ricard's Rapier (great for buffing as it does good damage and its R2 attack is ridiculously fast allowing you to do crazy damage per buff) and a lightning parrying dagger in the left hand (the super fast swipe with the lightning element allows you to stagger low poise enemies easily). As for looks? I rock a fully upgraded set of elite knight armor with pharis' hat (for musketeer style). And since I had such high dex and faith I recently started using the darkmoon bow with very good results. Miracles are great lightning spear, restoration, sunlight blade, and wrath of gods. I use the hornets ring (for that awesome parry animation) and the dark wood grain. This is a very fun pve build that can also hold it's own in pvp if you have a good connection and can parry well.

Thanks for the feedback. I think the best I could get it to in the short term is +5, as that takes the...green titanite? I think? And that's meant to drop off slimes, which are somewhere in the Depths. I'm afraid of the Depths, but I can't hang around in familiar areas forever.

I'm presently at:

STR 18
DEX 18
FAITH 15
END 29
VIT 20

Wearing the Elite Knight Armor +3, and using a shield I bought off the Blacksmith...tower something something...+4 or +5. I have Havel's Ring. Good enough for the Depths? I have absolutely no idea what the level range of each area is, and "The Depths" sounds vaguely terrifying, as I'm still getting mauled by forest cats in Darkroot Garden.

I use Havel the Rock's armor set with the substitution of the fang boar helm and havels shield with the dragontooth I can smash all the baddies quite easily but when it comes to people online, running around all nimbly bimbly with their light/medium backstabbing builds i fall short most times, TANK is only way!

Lightning Zweihandler +5 has been my preferred weapon for 3 playthroughs. When the situation calls for it, I also have a Divine Zweihandler and an Occult Zweihandler as well. I like the heavy weapons in general that either swing down or swing left or right.

However, when the situation calls for it, I also have a lifehunt scythe +5 that I use.

As for my character, I am mostly a strength/Faith build. I can one arm lift Smough's Hammer, but I do not use it because it does not have the range the Zweihandler does.

Requirements are only 20 str and 16 dex, which really isn't high. That leaves tons of levels that can be put in int or faith for a crapton of enchant damage.

I also really like Avelyn. Because pewpewpew.
Avelyn is the only weapon I've never used. I just can't seem to get it by myself(and I can't play online, net's far too slow for that.).

You can enchant the Dragon King Greataxe as well... But it has preposterous stats to be able to use it.

I like to try a bit of everything, but my favourites would be Black Knight Halberd (which is basically a sort of Naginata/Billhook combo)or Bastard Sword for a strength/dexterity build, Velka's Rapier and Enchanted Partizan for mages, and Iaito and Black Bow for a full dexterity build.

Also I found that the Silver Knight Spear is the only divine weapon to not scale to faith and has no magic damage component. I always have one as back up for my non cleric characters.

Yes. You are probably ready for early parts of Blighttown as well.
