Black Obsidian Dragon Greatsword thing you get from chopping off Kalameet's tail in the dlc.

Not too big to make every swing a giant gamble.
Big enough to have a bit of weight behind each swing and stun people.
Buffable. :3
Can dead-angle fairly well.
AoE 2 hand attack for gankers.

It's working well with my str-fth build.

I like the Balder Side Sword, and Halberd(haven't tried Giant or Gargoyle) on my Dex builds, pop Crystal Magic Weapon, or Sunlight/Darkmoon Blade on those and you'll have even more damage.

On my strength build, I like the Large Club, Great Club (same weapon, one has poison or toxic on it), and the Butcher Knife if those last two are too slow.

+15 on all of those of course.

Quelaag's Soul can be used to make the Fury Sword (+10 curved sword + soul) or Chaos Blade (+10 katana + soul) later in the game. Quelaag's Furysword +5 can destroy most bosses on NG, only had issues with 4 Kings. I'm not a fan of the Chaos Blade though.

Balder Side Sword can be found from the Balder Knights in the Undead Parish (the 5 knights that respawn inside the church), though it's a rare item.

Halberd is found just outside the church, in the opening with the Basement Key

Gargoyle Halberd is dropped by either the Bell Gargoyles (not their tail), or by the other gargoyles you'll fight later. I think it's a much higher drop rate from them.

Giant Halberd is dropped by Giant Knights, and I think it can be bought from the Giant Blacksmith

Large Club is found in Blighttown Swamp, Great Club is dropped by the fatties in Blighttown, both topside and in the swamp.

Butcher Knife is a reward for getting invaded by an NPC (and winning)in Blighttown

Hmm not that far in so probably shouldn't comment but so far I actually just like my starting scimitar. Balder Side Sword is pretty good too. Halberd was fun though I don't think I'll be using it as a main weapon. I have the black knight?s sword which is powerful but I don?t like how slow it is. Drake Sword (thank you anonymous person who left that message telling me to attack the tail) is pretty overpowered at this point but seem like it?s expensive to upgrade so I don?t think it will stay good. I'm not sure I should waste my dragon scale on it.
I?m kind of worried I've screwed myself over stat wise since I wanted to try different things so may have spread myself too thin. Though I think if you upgrade to elemental weapons it removes stat scaling in favor of elemental damage? So I could still be decent later if my stats aren't brilliant?

I like the medium-length swords like the Bastard Sword and the Claymore. I'd say 90% of the time I roll with a Bastard Sword. I also like the small swords like the basic straight sword and the broadsword. They have a good balance of damage and poking speed imo. Heaving the large swords around looks totally boss though.

Ran around in robes and two handing lifehunt scythe + 5. 1- shotted most regular enemies, 2 shots at most. Easy money if you time swings right. Fear the reaper baby.

I've only got 2 characters that I use much. One has the Dark Knight's Sword, the other has the Dark Knight'S Halberd.

The sword does ridiculously huge amounts of damage on a riposte or crit, the other has an enormous range :) love em both. Halberd is probably my favourite though, I regularly force enemies off cliffs with it and barely ever bother blocking.

Crest Shield for blocking their magic attacks, zerg them the hell down. Use a Green Blossom for Stamina, maybe a Resin for some additional damage (unless your zweihander is an elemental one of course) Each King has his own HP bar, so you can kill them before more than 1 shows up. But you have to be quick, a 2nd King isn't the end of the world, but 3 gets dangerous. 4... you're pretty much screwed.

Thank's but what is zerging? (I am assuming it is a verb) I will definitely use some of my gold pine resin though thanks for reminding me.

Basically it is a dps(damage per second) fight. You want to kill each king as fast as possible before the next one spawns. The closer you are to a king, the less damage it will do. Most of its attacks will go right over you if you keep moving around one of them too. Just back off when he starts to do his aoe(area of effect) attack. That is pretty much all there is to killing them. If you feel you are not doing enough damage to them, perhaps you should upgrade your weapon, or use some resin/buffs on your weapon if possible?
Yeah the problem with being so close to the kings is they pick you up and start chewing on your head. Should I circle them or something? I do a decent amount of damage because my Zweihander is +15, so it cant really be improved much unless I made it elemental, but I cant' be bothered just yet.

thanks guys you were a big help, I'll keep moving and use some resin :)

Thanks for the tips :)

I started out as a Hunter mainly because I wanted a free bow, picked up the drake sword and managed to leg it though Blighttown to get the Crimson set, focused mainly on upgrading my Strength and Endurance because I found I wasn't using the bow as much as I thought I would.

Was lucky enough to get the Black Knight Sword early on so I started using that and the Lightning Spear along with the various crest shields once I got to Sen's Fortress. Now I've replaced the Spear with Quelaggs's Furysword because curved flaming sword FTW and for armor I'm using Elite Knight Armor +10 while occasionally changing out the other parts.

I generally just wear Havel's set and tank all the damage from one king, heal, and then wait for another king to spawn. Also, since all the kings share a health bar, you technically don't need to kill 4 of them if you do enough damage to one of their life bars.

if you want to use a simple sword... The balder side sword is really good. It scales with you so can always be good for the entire game. It's light. brilliant range and speed. Moveset that allows regular hits and also an R2 thrust.
Needs low stats to wield so you don't need to level up to use it. I think it also consumes less stamina.

It Hits with 36 poise one handed that can stunlock enemies and pvp players.. Which is very useful. (Katana's cause bleeding but their 21 poise one handed means probably no stunlock)

I was a noob and I successfully defeated a few invader because I kept stun locking them with the balder side sword, before I knew what poise or stunlocking was.

My favourite was Quelaag's Furysword. My character had really high Dex so it was one of the best weapons for my playstyle. Katanas were also lots of fun to use. Iaito was another favourite of mine. I was also quite partial to using my Pyromancy flame. So many fireballs...

Ive Recently started Dark souls (fighting Bell Gargoyle ATM) And i have yet to find a weapon style i particularly would call my favorite,Using the Straight sword of Astoria because it does a lot of damage but meh on style, also been playing with he spear a bit and like the feel a bit better, but anyway I was wondering the community opinion on the various weapons and which one they like
In the original a spear with a heavy shield was often a good idea when you needed to push forwards against a boss or needed some extra reach!

I use Quelaag's Furysword personally, has some awesome animations and attack patterns and deals pretty good damage with a high attack speed too, perfect for me.

I might considered a Katana but don't out of my irritation that they're one of the most overpowered set of weapons in the game due to them being vastly overrated in real life.

I like the lightning spear for most things.
The drake sword for lightning resistant enemies.
And my divine winged spear for undead.

Light armour, or the lightest I can manage while still being unencumbered, medium shield, and a balder swag sword, and a wand for weapon enchants and whatever I need at the moment. I like being mobile and using active defense rather than soaking it.

Claws.
Nobody ever expects an Elite Knight to use the freakin' claws.
And nobody ever sees the rollstab coming. It's pretty much lightspeed.
I also like the Balder Swag Sword because it's the best longsword, the Uchigatana because it's cool, the Halberd because it works, and the Claymore because it's plain practical.

I have a question for the more experienced Dark Souls players in this thread...

Currently I'm at a point where I've done all of the Undead Burg/Parish, I've done most of Darkroot Garden/Basin (I have not fought the Wolf yet, the big cats keep scaring me off), and I've done the lower Burg. I've not gone into the Depths yet but I'm considering trying that next.

From the advice of people in the thread I made, I went and got the Drake Sword, and it's been fantastic. But I'm playing a Cleric/Paladin type character, and frankly it looks kind of evil. How long would it take for a Divine Claymore to be as effective as my Drake Sword? How high would my Faith need to be? I currently have 18 STR, 18 DEX, and 15 Faith.
