For me it had to be when Wash was killed in Serenity. It pissed me off so much I nearly broke my friends TV it made me so mad but I will not soon forget it.

Carlos' Death in Saint's Row 2

EDIT - embedding the movie didn't work, so have a link instead [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QCH0b-0xymk]

It's so spectacular because it's so totally out of character for the rest of the game. I actually cried first time I saw this. I then regrouped and went on to kill every arsehole that wasn't a member of the Saints in Stillwater.

My favourite movie death/deaths ever, possibly my favourite gunfight as well

God I love that movie. That's one of the few movies I can sit down and watch it, beginning to end, and then start it all over again. And none of my friends has seen it, or will even watch it.

This movie was also when I discovered that Christian Bale > Hugh Jackman. Just so not open to discussion.

Spoilers for Day of the Dead, Brain Dead/Dead Alive, Suikoden II, and Mother 3.

Day of the Dead: The death of Captain Rhodes. Positively brutal and gut-wrenching...CHOKE ON IT!

Brain Dead/Dead Alive: Too many to count...the urinating on the tombstone scene, the kung fu priest scene, the fist through the mouth scene...oh, and the lawnmower!

Suikoden II: NANAMI!! ...Okay, she didn't really die, but it was heartbreaking at the time.

Mother 3: CLAAAAAAUS!

The death at the end of Disc 1 in FF7. I haven't laughed at a death that hard since I was a little girl.

L and Light's deaths. Light specifically - I was so disappointed in him.

Man, everyone's name starts with an "L."
I can agree. But, he had to pay for his crimes. And contemplating the death of your own sister? That's just cold.

As for me:

Lelouch's death was also incredibly depressing, because he was my favourite character...but it was awesome.

Man, everyone's name starts with an "L."
I didn't think Lights death should've really happened, Mikami was rated in the Death Note book as being smarter than Mello thus!

Smartest people

1. Light
2. L
3.Near
4. Mikami(Was also labed as being one of the most emotionally strongest)
5.Mello

So by that definition Mikami wouldn't have commited suicide in the anime.

Also Mikami would've been smart to keep an extra note hidden away, not much, like a page...it is truly unfitting of his character.

The very end when Matt Damon's character is shot by Mark Whalberg's character. I like it because it sets the film on the note that the bad guy didn't get away
Fuck yes the entire ending was consisting of, BAM, GASP, BAME, Gasp.... BAM saw that coming... Booo... Bam, Oh GO WHALBERG!

Actually, I think this is the most awesome (extended) death-scene from a movie. Ever.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v8_dY4rpjOc

Mainly for the duel leading up to it - because holy hell, that's something I think is fairly unique to the movie world. Would have been better if it was all GrimDark and futuristic and not comic, but ah well - them's the breaks.
That was AWESOME. I love how the end Chow Yun Fat saves them. Is there nothing he doesn't make better.

Probably one of the most depressing I've ever seen.

Neon Genesis Evangelion - Rei Ayanami's "death"; more so the fact that she died rather than how (even though it is kind of disturbing). She was the one character I thought deserved a happy ending, and the only one who didn't get one. Asuka's "death" was also disturbing, but I really didn't like her.

I can't believe nobody's mentioned...
Andrew Ryan's death.
"A MAN CHOOSES," *wack*
"A SLAVE OBEYS!' *smack*
"OBEEEEEYYYYY!!!" *kersplat* *thud*

The bluntness of his death, plus the revelation he gave shortly before, left me with my jaw on the floor.

1: Mass Effect
The death of either Kaiden or Ashley shook me to my core. It wasn't just because of the fact that you leave them to die alone with enemies all around and next to a nuke about to wipe them off the face of the planet, it was the fact that you have to choose which one would die. The fact that the game had tons of choices before this didn't help matters because for a while I had the feeling that I could've done something different before to avert the disaster. This feeling passed, but I still get emotional when I replay that scene.

2: Bioshock
The death of Andrew Ryan. It finally becomes clear to you that you've had no control over anything you've done, that your entire life was nothing but a sham to drive you forward to this one event. That'll mess with your head any day, but it worked magnificently well in Bioshock because unlike movies or books (passive entertainment where you just observe events) it's a game, where more than any other medium the participant is in control of the outcome.

3: CoD4
The ending goes without saying, but the other notable death I'd like to point out is when the person you've played as for most of the first act dies- while you're still playing him. You're forced to crawl and limp your way out of the wreckage of your helicopter into the desolation of a nuclear holocaust. It demonstrated the despair of modern combat, and left a bad taste in your mouth from your enjoyment of what had come before.

My top two movies death scenes are as follows:
The opening scene to Ghost Ship just because it was executed so well, it's kinda beautiful to me in a wired way.
The one movie death that almost got me to cry, quite a feat, was the ending to the Devil's Rejects, just because I loved the whole movie(s), I'm a huge Otis/Capt. Spaulding/Baby and how well Rob Zombie shot that scene. Honestly I'm getting a tattoo of Otis and Baby.

Um books:
Pretty much every death scene in 'Things They Carried'
The Grandfather in 'Everything Is Illuminated'

Now I feel very alone in being the only one who liked these that much.
