Ridley from the Metroid series. I love fighting that devious bastard, and he always has that awesome theme when I fight him.

Ridley was the sort of enemy that personified the era of kick-ass video games. Before you had to have a villain with mommy issues and a corrupt colonel with an ulterior motive, you had the pure alien savage that was something like Ridley or Kraid.

Rabbites (Seiken Densetsu err... Secret of Mana series), Slimes (Dragon Quest series), Jellies (I think that's what they were called in Wind Waker), pretty much my favorites tend to be the cutesy and overly happy critters, especially when they're made of jello.

Dark Link in Ocarina of time. Awesome concept and tough fight if you decide on sword-to-sword.

Oh, and since nobody's mentioned Zelda, I'll go ahead and add Ganondorf. In both Ocarina of Time and Twilight Princess. Best game ever (In my opinion; I apologize, though not too sincerely, to all the internet assholes who'll call me a noob because my opinion's different from theirs... Snobby pricks). I consider it so far above other games that it doesn't even come up in any of my conversations concerning "best-game-ever-status."

Funnily enough, in Mass Effect 1 I remember thinking, "Once I off Saren, I'm gonna have to take out these sick Cerberus fucks. They killed an Alliance Admiral and they were breeding Thorian Creepers and sentient Rachni for war."

Yeeeah... Fate is a cruel mistress..
I don't get all the Cerberus hate.

Honestly, the dismantle-Cerberus'-operations sidequests in ME1 felt poorly developed, not least of which because they were using recycled enemy types for "research" when really it's just convenience to the dev's.

By the end of ME2, I was a pretty regular Cerberus fanboy...I mean considering all the shit they hook you up with- no expenses spared, I gave him the station almost like a Thank-you card.
Sure, all my squadmates gave me shit for it afterwards, but it seemed decent at the time.

Edit:

Aaaaanyways, back on topic:

I'd have to say the Halo Marines.
I mean sure, they're dumb as tacks, but that random dialogue that just popped up always gave some welcome comic relief in the middle of combat.
Not to mention, load them up with heavy weapons and saddle up, and even they can raise some hell...so long as there's a competent driver at the wheel.

Liquid Snake in MGS and most of the enemies in Half Life 2. The last boss in Mass Effect 2 is wicked also.

Basically The Combine... They really are awesome! And I especially enjoy the "Synths" (Striders, Hunters, Gunships, Dropships) they are just so cool. The Striders in particular.... I've never seen an enemy quite like it! :D

Sligs from the Oddworld games.. Gun-toting sadists with tentacle faces and robotic pants; they're dumb, cowardly, and easily distracted, but they love their jobs.

I always had a soft spot for the HECU Marines in Half-life. Battle with them was always special.

I have to love the Colossi in Shadow of the Colossus. Not because they were fun to take down (which they were) but because you always feel a bit shit inside for doing so. you can sympathize with them. ;P

Also Headcrabs. Can anyone tell me, is there possibly a more fun thing to hit with a crowbar with perfect timing?

The Combine from Half-Life 2. They're just so awesome.

Either that or the Locust from Gears of War. If I can chainsaw them in half, they've got to be awesome.

Well in RTS games, units can be your enemy or your ally depending on the faction you choose. For the sake of your thread, let's pretend this is my enemy instead of one of my favourite units.

I present to you, from the Black Templars mod of Dawn of War Soulstorm, the Land Raider Crusader.

From Lexicanum, "The armament consists of 1 twin-linked Assault Cannon, 2 sets of Hurricane-pattern bolters in the side sponsons and 1 pintle-mounted Multi-melta. "

"Hurricane [pattern] Bolters are a set of six co-axial Boltguns."
I wouldn't exactly say that they're co-axial since thats usually a smaller weapon mounted alongside a larger one, either way thats probably an infantry army's worst nightmare. Could you perhaps message me a link to that mod?

OT: Probably the most fun I've ever had fighting a particular enemy was the soldiers in Half Life. Absolutely the best enemy AI of its time and have yet to play a game that surpasses it.

Ganondorf, Ocarina of Time. That guy has style.
Andrew Ryan, Bioshock. Again, with the style.
The Joker, Arkham Asylum. Fracking nuts.
Bowser, Most Mario games. Hilarity.

We've all answered threads involving favorite characters in games but what about the enemies? The things we spend ours defeating? In the all the games you've played have you ever had a "favorite" enemy or enemies? The things you just love to hate. My favorite would have to be Helghan from Killzone. Who is/are your favorite?

Agree with the OP. Helghast will always be my favourites.
Thirded. Fight for the Higs!

Fourthed if we are going for a group of enemies, the Helghan army is cool for so many reasons.

If we are looking for an individual enemy my vote is for Kefka, damn I hated that guy, but as an enemy he is awesome. :)

5thed.helghast are the evil british space nazis

The bear from Condemned.

I hated the damn thing, it made me freak out, lose my mind and lose. A lot...

I felt so happy when I finally was allowed to shoot it in the (swearword)ing face!
