The Sisters of Mercy - wait, no, this is the odd one out. Andrew Eldritch is a *****, though, does that count?
Heeeeyyyyy, he's not a *****, but a most wonderfully loveable asshole, bless...

As for myself, I haven't really heard many great female lead bands, yet. There are a handful, but I find most lacking. But my favourite, well...

Lisa Gerrard from Dead Can Dance, Elizabeth Fraser from Cocteau twins was a close second.

Fresh off of my spotify list:
Otep, Lily Allen, Dinah Washington, Stars (well, one of the singers is female), Aterciopelados, Regina Spektor.
Out of these my favorite is Dinah Washington, by a mile, but on the whole I tend to listen to more male-dominated genres.

A lot of my favourites have already been mentioned. The ones that aren't generally fall into the "music as a weapon" category.

Diamanda Galas has a vocal range that shits on most opera singers, yet she chooses to make music like this instead. Count your blessings.

Hanin Elias is awesome onstage and off. You'll have take my word for the "off" but here's the "on" part.

And let's not forget Cobra Killer:

There's more I could put up but that'll do for now. Got to give other people a chance to name some cool stuff that I haven't.

Those who are still going:
Crucified Barbara
Joan Jett
Melissa Auf der Mar
Patricia from The Horrorpops

Classic Ladies:
Aretha,
Ella,
Janis Joplin,

Recently, I've been impressed with Grace Potter but I need to hear a bit more from her.

Hands down, Tarja Turunen. Formerly the singer of Nightwish. She has now gone solo.

Though I like Annette as a singer, this must be said:

If I was the sole reason the band existed and they kicked me out for being a "diva" without discussing anything prior to me, I'd be absolutely pissed. Some people refuse to acknowledge that the way she was dismissed was classless.

On topic, Vibeke Stene. Singer of the band Tristania. Her voice is the apotheosis of haunting and beauty merged into a single voice.

First Choice has to be. ( I can relate to both songs here I really love them & Shirley Manson is so pretty )

Second is. ( I would give almost anything to be able to pull off her look )

Thrird is. ( Same goes for Taylor Momsen I so wish to look like her or close at least )

And the list goes on & on & on but I have taken up enough space for now. ; P
