most of the time you like the hero but every once in a while the side kick just comes off as a more likeable character than the protagonist my favorite sidekick is luigi sitting in marios shadow has deprived him of many games but he remains a loyal part of the mario cast im sure im not the only one who has a favorite sidekick what are yours?

Don't mean to be a Grammar Nazi, but capitalize, man. It makes people think you are more legit.
OT: Dom.

Bill. He's so obviously there in the shadow of Louis, Francis and Zoey...

Okay, maybe I should choose someone else. The Arbiter. I just think he's really underrated (after all, he had active camoflague. Does John have that? No. So there.). Also, Coco Bandicoot (she's basically the brains behind Crash), and any FF sidekick. For obvious reasons.

Probably....Midna, from Twilight Princess because she's actually useful and plot-relevant. Also she has an attitude, which I found refreshing from the typical "Hey! Listen! Hey! Listen!" I was used to with Navi and the KoRL in WW.

I don't know if playing co-op actually counts as having a sidekick but it's better than nothing, and by nothing I mean stupid NPCs.

I think you're one of the first people I've seen actually use his name. *props*

The Vortigaunt from Half-Life 2: Episode 2 was a rather outstanding ally.

I also liked Alyx Vance, nothing like a pretty girl riding shotgun as you defend the planet against aliens.

well he isn't really a sidekick but I still think it's funny when I hear "hey cousin let's go bowling!"

I loved The Arbiter, I wish Halo 3 showed him off more.

My vote goes for dogmeat in fallout 3, as horribly animated as he was, I loved him.

I'm one of the seemingly few people who actually cares about the wider story of Halo. Yep, I'm a self-confessed fanboy.

That said, most of the novels were on the New York Times Bestseller List, so they must be doing something right :)

I'm gonna say the combined effort of the Arbiter and Cortana in Halo 3 as well as both the 'unkillable' allies in Halo 2.
Also Wrex from Mass Effect.

Most likeable would go to Uncle Pey'j, most useful (story-wise more than gameplay-wise) is Rainer Hofstedt, and the honorable mention goes to Dogmeat, who is apparently the canine Methuselah, having appeared in all three "Fallout" games, although sadly, not immune to friendly fire...
