Mick Thompson,Slipknot.
.
I still stick with Jim Root between the two.
Well I enjoy Mick more seeing as how does most of the cool parts.Like the Intro to Eyeless.Or the last two verses in Disasterpiece.

There are many other instruments, but guitarists are pretty much the core of a rock/metal group. While a group can get by without a truly fantastic guitarist, one of those doesn't exactly hurt a band's popularity.

Daron Malakian is an excellent guitarist also - though I felt he was too egotistical on Hypnotize/Mesmerize when he decided he should be the vocalist as well.
I can understand where you are coming from, but I think his voice still works in some songs. Lonely day is a good song imo.
I think it's a decent song, but you have to admit it isn't a System of a Down song - the same goes for She's Like Heroin (minus the decent part) and Lost in Hollywood. And to a lesser extent Kill Rock 'n' Roll.
They're decent enough but they're slow "rock" songs.
I don't mind his singing when he's just doing his harmonizing with Serj - or little bits of a song which suit his voice (a la Hypnotize and Prison Song) - but I think when he just concentrated on the guitar riffs he was better.

Very off-topic, for which I apologise.
No apology necessary, and I understand your point and for most songs I agree with you.

Something about Randy Rhoads always appealed to me. Not quite sure what, he's just awesome I guess.
Paul Waggoner. He's just really fucking talented. Oh, and dear God, the SWEEP PICKING.
Jimmy Page. Stairway. Enough said.
Brian May. Whenever the guitar played in Bohemian Rhapsody. Enough said.
Jimi Hendrix simply because it's pretty much a requirement to put him on any list that has the words "best" and "guitarist".

There's other kinds of music besides rock and metal.

Maybe you should try Om. They're a Stoner/Drone metal band that consists of only drums and bass.
That sounds pretty interesting. Have you ever listened to any solo bass, like Jaco Pastorius or Michael Manring?

This is also true. Unfortunately we're all generic teenagers/young adults who like rock and metal. Apologies if that's not to your liking.

Just out of interest, what sort of music are you into?

Jazz, and other stuff.
Right now I'm listening to a solo tuba player.

You sound so bitter, and basically you're trolling, (a deliberately provoking post adding nothing to the discussion) so smooth moves there.

Anyway, John Petrucci and Guthrie Govan and Shawn Lane are pretty much the top three.

I mean come on, Waves has got to be the best instrumental guitar piece ever.

Slash - his recent album is AMAZING!
Ray Torro (sp?) I know that sounds lame, but damn he's good.
Buckethead.
Joe Satriani
Carlos Santana.
The support acts for Green Day, a newbie called Frank Turner who was really good and Joan Jett. I hope you know who she is...
There's probably more, but I dunno at the minute.

Brian May because I was brought up from a young age listening to Queen thanks to my dad (that wasn't sarcastic, he really helped me develope a good taste in music).
Angus Young because I saw AC/DC at wembley and its the best gig I have ever been too!!!
