Many of my favourites have already been listed (Jack White, Hendrix, Satch, etc.) but no one has mentioned Mike Oldfield yet. As someone else mentioned with Gilmour above, it's not about shredding and speed (though he certainly can), it's more about unforgettable tone musicality and feel.

Have to throw in Alex Lifeson of Rush as well:

All the guitarists in this song.
that's just one guitarist, steve ouimette, he multi-tracked all the guitar parts in. He's got a youtube channel with other tracks he's recorded if you want to check him out. I'd say my favourites are Mark Knopfler from Dire Straits, and Jason Becker. If you're that interested what they sound like you can search them on youtube :)

Mick Thompson,Slipknot.
.
I still stick with Jim Root between the two.
Well I enjoy Mick more seeing as how does most of the cool parts.Like the Intro to Eyeless.Or the last two verses in Disasterpiece.
I thought they typically switched when playing live.

When I saw them first, Root played the parts in Disasterpiece, then Mick played it the second time I saw them.

Hm. Well I guess they like to switch it up since I've seen them change between playing rhythm and lead.

And I'm partial to All Hope is Gone. Not the song, the album as a whole.

Well I'm more of a Iowa man myself. It has my favorite songs on it.But their worst album is quite easily Mate.Feed.Kill.Repeat.I just don't like it.They are just much better with Corey as the vocalist.

Can that one even be counted as an album?

It was just a demo and they released only 100 copies of it. It's not really good, but it's still just a demo

Meh. Okay then. Still sucks :p

I personally thought they got better as they went on. Not that I dislike their first album, but compared to Vol 3 and AHG, it's not as good. In my opinion at least.

Well I am more of a heavy music guy in general. Not just with Slipknot, but with most band/artists.Except for the non metal ones.I mean,I would never want to hear Ai Otsuka sing something on the Mayhem scale of things.

True and I'm obviously a bit of a metal head myself and I like things when they're heavy, but not to the point of obnoxious.

I like melodies in my music. That's why I love folk and Viking metal since they're typically very melodic.

although not as good as some of the legends Omar Rodríguez-López is a very good guitarist and general musician
