One what if I usually entertain is what if the American's hadn't fought for Independence? How long would have Australia just been sitting at the bottom of the world, dismissed by everyone else as inhabitable?

Or what if Britain and France had not sold out the Sudentenland and had allowed Hitler to fight a war with the powerful Czech army?

What if Japan hadn't surrendered after two A-bombs (another close-call "what if?")

This one is actually fairly interesting. It wouldn't have been impossible that America proceeded to completely nuke the shit out of the country after that, after which Japan would have been turned into one huge island of nuclear fallout à la Tsjernobyl. Which would also in turn mean anime wouldn't have come into being as we now know it.
