Boondock Saints and Gamers2: Dorkness Rising are mine.

I don't consider some of the films previously mentioned to be obscur enough to count (I don't think I know anyone who hasn't seem Shaun of the Dead).

Off the top of my head, and trying to avoid films I've eulogised before on other threads, I'll go for:

Lost Highway

To explain in detail what this film's about would be to ruin half the fun of watching it, but essentially it's about a man who's insecure in his relationship with his wife to the point of insanity. There's a lot of crazy shit that goes on, and some scenes I can guarantee you'll never forget. Oh, and a soundtrack featuring David Bowie, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Smashing Pumpkins etc. fits in perfectly with the mood of the film.

Pi

The first major film by Darren Aronofsky, shot in black-and-white for $60,000. It follows a mathematician who sees patterns all around him, and is working on finding a pattern in the stock market. He ends up being hunted by Hasidic Jews and a large Wall Street company for the information he has, and he then comes up with a rather gruesome solution. It's not a comfortable or cheerful film by any means, although still not the massive downer of his next film, Requiem for a Dream. But it's clever and engaging, and definitely worth a watch.

I appreciate they're not super obscure, but they were the first that came to mind.

"Dodgeball" or "Cabin Fever".

Mine is "Shaun of the Dead" and "The Fifth Element".
None of those are oscure. Seriously.

My favourite obscure movies are:
  • The Butterfly Effect - I've only met 2 people who've heard of it.
    Zombie Strippers
Seconded, none of those movies are obscure. Shaun of the Dead was pretty popular over here in the States.

Also. Zombie Strippers! Hilarious movie.

Don't get your twist in a panties and don't name the thread "Favorite OBSCURE (Caps Lock ftw!) movie"

I don't know how obscure it is, but I really liked Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny.
The music in that thing also rocked huge amounts of win.

Shaun of the Dead isn't obscure, even here in America.
Fifth Element? that was a pretty big film, and my first Blue Ray dvd.
Not really obscure there.

I was watching my favorite obscure film last night:
Tom Wait's Big Time
It's a collection of weird live performances and skits from his 80's "Wild Years" work. Unfortunately the VHS tape went out of production a long time ago and they never released a DVD. You can still catch it on cable sometimes or find a vhs copy used, if your lucky. It's a must see, especially if your a Tom Waits fan: it illustrates why he's one of the best performers of all time.

Speaking of Tom Waits, "Night on Earth" (Waits did an amazing job on the soundtrack) and "Down by Law" are a couple of great Jim Jarmush films that never got the recognition they deserved.

I will have to ask you guys: How obscure is Pump Up the Volume?
That's probably one of the best teen movies out there.

For comedy, I would have to recommend Woody Allen's first film What's up Tiger Lilly. He and his friends redub an old cheesy Japanese 007 ripoff.

Now that I think about it, most of my favorite films are obscure.

So far this thread is mostly well known films, or indie films with a still strong following. I can think of only three movies that could qualify as "obscure" and everyone should see for one reason or another.
1) Hard Candy
2) Requiem for a Dream
3) Elephant

Look them up, watch them. I don't demand you understand them, but they are profound.

I saw that but I also thought that at least one of the examples he gave would be definitively obscure.

Oh dear God, barely any of the previously mentioned movies are in any way obscure.

I really liked "Du Er Ikke Alene". It's just such a beautiful movie.

Also, "Malena" deserves an honourable mention. =]

I certainly hope these are obscure enough...

This Is Spinal Tap - It's a mock-you-mentry (rock documentary done to spoof) of 80s metal band Spinal Tap. The funny thing is that the guys from the movie are actually making music and have been featured in Guitar Hero and Rock Band. The movie is a scream and a must-own for metal fans who want to get a guffaw out of the genre. The best part is the airport scene when the bassist gets held up at the metal detector. I won't spoil anything, go check Youtube if you're curious.

Beavis and Butt-Head Do America - Yeah, I know B&BH are pretty popular and controversial, but they were ahead of their time. And I don't know anyone who owns the movie other than me. Undeniably, one of the biggest mindfuck moments in cinema (as told by the Nostalgia Critic) is in this movie, and that moment is my favorite: The Hallucination. Beavis eats a cactus and starts hallucinating. And what happens is...THE MOST METAL HALLUCINATION EVER!! Seriously, it kicks ass. Go watch it, go buy it, go raise your eyebrows and scratch your head at the hallucination.

Repo! The Genetic Opera

Never heard anyone talk about it, never saw any advertisement and I haven't found it on DVD.
The only reason I know it existed is because of TvTropes and the wikipedia effect.

I love Elephant, the ending shocked me to the point of making a thread about cinematic techniques.

Also i've heard that Requiem For A Dream is really good, though I haven't seen it.
It's where the music of the same name originated if i'm thinking of the same one. :)

The Hurt Locker. It just came out. It's still in theaters but, not a whole lot of theaters are showing it and I barely know anyone who has heard of it let alone seen it.
