Oh, alright. My apologies.SevenStarSonata said:I claimed you quoted the movie incorrectly because, quite honestly, the quote in the graphic novel wasn't memorable enough for me to recall the difference. The scene portrayed in the movie, particularly given Hugo Weaving's delivery of the line, on the other hand, WAS memorable, so when it comes to that particular quote, my brain eschews the graphic novel version in favour of the movie version. The Sorrow said:Relatable main characters don't instantly make the movie better.
Can you relate to the physical manifestation of Dream better than you can some random everyman hero?
Does that make Sandman any less wonderful?
Can you relate to a psychotic man convinced that his mask is his face, throws civilians down elevator shafts, and is an all-around brutal sociopath?
Is Watchmen not one of the greatest examples of the genre ever produced?
One of the MAIN POINTS of V for Vendetta is that he was fighting for anarchy. Not truth, not justice. Anarchy.
Another point is that you're never certain that V is the good guy. The government, while admittedly fascist, is NEVER SHOWN TO BE OUTRIGHT EVIL. Just totalitarian.
The movie stripped that gray factor away into a stereotypical good vs. evil story. They dumbed-down the story to increase appeal.
And I don't care for that.
And if you read the novel, why did you claim I quoted the movie incorrectly?
I'm not claiming that Sandman (A personal favourite, actually) or Watchmen or any other of his works are bad because of the lack of easily-relatable characters, certainly not. I merely pointed out that I found the movie adaptation of V For Vendetta to be more enjoyable than the graphic novel in part because I could relate to it easier. I'm not from England, I am not old enough to have experienced Margaret Thatcher's government even if I was from England, and don't particularly find a story that centers around a prostitute and an anarchist all that appealing. It's not that the original novel wasn't good, because it was, I just infinitely prefer the movie despite its deviations from Moore's original intent.

Augh, yes, I realized about two minutes after I first posted that I'd had a massive brainfart. It's sadly been a while since I've read any of my favourites...makes me want to go bum around in Barnes and Noble for a little while, haha. The Sorrow said:Oh, alright. My apologies.
But just for the record, Neil Gaiman wrote Sandman. Not Alan Moore.
Close, but it's from a novel. I thought more people had read it here; it's a fairly "out there" book that's actually pretty good.Rigs83 said:Neal Degrassie from Nova Science Now?G1eet said:"All we have to believe with is our senses, the tools we use to perceive the world: our sight, our touch, our memory.
