Believe it or not...Search bar attempted.

So what are your favorite sci fi movies. I'm asking because I have only seen blade runner and I'm critically lacking in my knowledge of my the Sci-Fi genre

Maybe you could try leading by example.

Also, 2001: A Space Odyssey. It's awesome!

Edit: Sorry, I'm blind.

2001 is good, as is Alien and Aliens.

Though honestly, most Sci-Fi films are shit.

Avatar and District 9 for recent ones.

Alien 1-3 are worth watching.

Serenity Movie is good one too.

For television, I liked Babylon 5 and star trek: TNG the best.

Never watched Firefly, it had a short run and what Serenity is based on.

I'd call it Sci Fi before Horror, but give Event Horizon a shot. I love it.

District 9! Also Sunshine is rather good, if horribly depressing.

Liked the book but found the film just a little too slow and bizzare for my tastes.

But you do have an Ergo Proxy avatar at least!

Well, some of the greats have already been mentioned, so I'll say:
Starship Troopers.
Would you like to know more?

Alien and Aliens. Though Alien is much better. Alien is directed by Riddley Scott the same guy from Blade Runner.

Well obvious Star Wars though I'm sure you already watched those so...2001:Space Odyssey,Close Encounters of the Third Kind and Children of Men.

You're the first person I've seen who's known about that movie. And you're right, it has a depressing ending; I have to be in a certain mood to watch it.

As for me, I love Serenity, the original Star Wars trilogy, Back to the Future, the first two Terminator movies, to name a few.

Crazy?! Naaah, makes perfect (sort of) sense after the third or fourth time watching it through. It's probably got the best characterization of any anime series I've seen as well as some awesome scenes.

I'm somewhat of a junkie for depressing films strangely enough so although Sunshine was a little rough around the edges (the slasher moments were a bit 'meh'), it was a fairly unique experience, and left more of a lasting impression then many other films.
Also had a brilliant soundtrack.

The Alien trilogy (with Alien 1 being the best), Star Wars and Starship troopers are among my favourite sci-fi movies. In terms of TV show however, in my opinion, it doesn't get any better than Doctor Who (especially the Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker eras)

So say we all

I don't really know what's that great about 2001, but the classics are often a good choice. Such are Star Wars or the Star Trek films. Additional I consider Equilibrium to be a really good film, far better than the Matrix.

One that I like a lot is Twelve Monkeys.
And Starship troopers is awesome.

If you like elder stuff try The Twilight Zone

How could I forget Equilibrium?! Bit of an aquired taste that film but I loves it all the same.
Some of those fight scenes are really intense.
