This topic goes to the heroes and villains who, despite not being as popular or recognizable as others, still hold a place in your heart for some reason or another. This list is ONLY for heroes and villains that you feel are unappreciated, NOT for the ones who are already known even by non-comic book readers.

To start off, this guy is my favorite underrated villain:

The Clock King, pictured above, is just hilarious. How can you not like the guy? He calls himself a king of clocks, of all things, wears a clock mask and clock one-piece, and commits clock-themed crimes. I love how inept he is, which at the same time makes him very endearing. You know the Joker will get his way eventually, but I always want to root for Clock King to somehow defeat Batman, just once. He's actually one of my favorite Batman villains, next to Clayface.

The Dogwelder. You heard right, The Dogwelder, this man welds dead puppies to the flesh of evildoers!

Hehe, the clock arms on his face make him look angry.

OT: I'm going with Union Jack, our version of Captain America never gets much love.

Mr. Freeze is my favorite villain of all time, possibly my favorite comic book character. Therefore, anything less than universal devotion by all is making him underrated. Bow to Mr. Freeze!

Stilt-Man, from Daredevil comics, all the way. No matter how much he utterly fails (seriously, the guy takes failure to all-new heights /rimshot), he keeps coming back, improving himself each time (not that it does any good). Until he died, of course.

Booster Gold and Blue Beetle don't get nearly as much love as they should. If DC made a movie of these two I would see it 3 times in theater as a matter of principle.

deadpool since 2006. but like spot said hes become very popular lately. Probably due to the wolvering movie and marvel vs capcom 3. always liked him cuz he breaks the fourth wall but somehow keeps the integrity of what hes doing ie. comic books, video games even M.U.G.E.N. if u get the right character lol.

Yeah, these two were exactly the ones I was going to say. It makes me sad that almost nobody outside of comic books, or maybe people who watched the Justice League growing up, has ever heard of these two.

Aquaman. He's really underrated and people assume his powers are worthless or he's inept. He's not. I mean, aside from the ability to command every creature under the see (including what we don't know exists), he protects the oceans, whereas other superheroes only work on landmass. Ocean trumps landmass. Not to mention he's King of a highly advanced race with his own military system. Needless to say, if Aquaman was pissed off, he could likely take over the land world without a problem. Just sayin'.

I don't have a favorite underrated villain though. I'd say Carnage but he's far from underrated.

I second Blue Beetle and Booster Gold. Also, is Daredevil considered underrated? 'Cause that's my third choice.

edit: Agree with guy below me. Bullseye is actually my favorite comic villain, underrated or otherwise. Just forgot for a moment...

Bullseye

He's absolutely mad, a bad ass, look pretty cool and hasn't got any unique powers as far as I know other then to hit the mark every time. Ass kickery with an attitude.

Which also means for underated heros, daredevil and Elektra for me :3

Deathstroke's awesome. He beats down Batman for gods sake, and makes it look easy. Deadpool was a copy of him as well.

Also, Aquaman has superhuman strength, speed and endurance. You don't get to live at the bottom of the crushing force of the ocean without being special.
Right, exactly. Sometimes depicted as on par with Superman, if not a little below.

Seconded. I'm not even British, but daaaamn. Union Jack > Captain America

Oh,this is from a rather obscure Norwegian sci-fi/steampunk-esque comic.
It's a reimagening of Norways four greatest literary figures (already nicknamed The Great Four) as badass superheroes. I do not expect people to have heard of either the comic or the writers (except for Ibsen), but I think it's a cool thing.

In the past I would have said Harley Quinn, for being one of the few female comic book characters to dress modestly (In addition to the crazy)

But that was before her Arkham Asylum "upgrade."

I would have to say the following characters from marvel Thunderbolt series Mach V (V as in 5) and Songbird. I not sure why I like those two, maybe because they have cool superpower, interesting history and the fact they are genuine following the hero path (the Thunderbolt series are a team of former super villains turn to the good guy side.

Haven't you seen the Clock King episode of Batman: The Animated Series? He was actually cool in that.

Anyway, I'd have to say Beast from X-Men. He's a genius, super-strong and agile, and has some real badass moments. I thought he was more pretentious in the 90's cartoon, though.

Sandman, hes tough to explain if you've never heard of him but hes essentially a DC anti-hero with all the powers of the sandman like controlling sleep and dreams.

Also he looks like a goth rocker, but i wouldn't let that fool you. Hes pretty awesome.
