Oh, so much awesomeness in RTS games...this could take a while. I'll start with the un-loved Warhammer fantasy alternative to Dawn of War: Warhammer Mark of Chaos. So much fun in the Skaven, just because of their quotes. "Kill-kill the manthings!". Also, the Hellcannon just looked so freaking amazing!
Next, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds. Another overlooked game IMO, it played like Age of Empires...with Star Wars!!! AT-AT's were awesome and all, but my vote goes to the Wookie Berserkers. In the futuristic world with lightsabers and turbolazers, they go to battle with scimitars, and kick ass doing so.
Zergs make me feel all cuddly inside, I loves my little gribblies!
And now we reach the lovely world of Dawn of War. Ah, how my life has been consumed by this game. I'll list my favourites for each race, simply because it deserves it so much. First, the goody-goody space marines. Since I love beating dead horses, I'll say the Dreadnought. The intro video to the game is all the convincing I needed. Also, I loves me some assault terminators...if only they had lightning claws
Tau are alright. Crisis suits are sweet, with all their plasma death, but my nod goes to the broadsides. Any unit that sets up for battle by assuming a sumo stance is awesome in my book. And on top of that, they have twin-linked railguns on their backs...how sweet it is.
Guardmen choice is obviously the Baneblade. However, my honourable mention goes to the Ogryns. They're just so loveable, "Duh, Ogryn capture the...uh...thing!"
Chaos gets my love because of the Khorne Berserkers. They're just so insane! And they're fast too. "BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!"
Eldar are sweet because of the Fire Prism. These things are nasty! Watching Ork armies unable to stand up because of constant barrage is hilarious.
The Necron Lord is awesome. He's basically a one-man army. However, my nod goes to the Flayed Ones. One time in the Ork stronghold mission I deep struck my honour guard flayed ones in at the very start, while their base was still visible. They killed the Warboss, and won the battle for me in under a minute. Can't argue with those results...it's against the law.
Sorry if I spoil part of Soulstorm for you guys, since I just got it. The Living Saint of the Sisters of Battle is freaking INSANE!!! She's got a lot of health and does major damage. On top of that, when she's killed off she gets back up! THAT'S RIGHT! She gets right the expletive back up! You have to kill her twice!!
And last, but not least, those lovely Orks! They're all hilarious, and pretty deadly to boot. My favourite has to be either the Big Mek, "Where's the trukk?! WHY'S I WALKIN'!!!" or the Mad Dokk, " OOH! Fresh meat! I can make so many improvements!"
