For this gen my favourite trilogy has been Gears of War, mainly for just how fucking good it's multiplayer is. My other favourite trilogies would have to be Metroid Prime and the original SNES Donkey Kong trilogy.

Am I allowed to choose games 2, 3 and 4 of the six-game Myst series?

If not, there's still always pre-Rabbids Rayman.

The fanboy in me wants to say Mass Effect but I know in my heart that can't be said anymore.

I'm actually going to go with the Mordern Warfare trilogy. Yes I'm sure people are going to come out with the "but they're all the same game, blah blah" whatever. But in relation to how much fun I had and the value I got out of it it really does stack up. Plus the single player story is like a bad 80's action film that takes itself too seriously, with I always found fantastic.

I'll put in a retro gamer's viewpoint and go with the Strike series - Desert, Jungle, and Urban.

Desert and Urban Strike are flawed but fun. Jungle Strike is one of my all-time favorite games, and probably one that I've played the most over the longest period of time.

Second place would go to the Warcraft RTS series: Warcraft, Warcraft 2 and Warcraft 3. (It would get top placing if it wasn't for some serious balancing issues in all three games, plus the constant whinging of Arthas Menethir in Warcraft 3. Seriously, worst protagonist EVER. And I've played "Amnesia: The Dark Descent", I know something about annoying whiny protagonists who won't shut the f-ck up.)

The Ezio Trilogy in Assassins Creed, that being Assassins Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations. I found that all together these three games form quite a in depth narrative focused on the life of one man, an Assassin. It was very interesting to be able to see the evolution of a character throughout various stages of his life, from reckless youth(Assassins Creed 2) to wise old age(Revelations). I think what made these games so compelling to me personally was just how much they remained focused on Ezio as a character, telling his story and never letting him get overshadowed by the overarching weird sci fi conspiracy stuff that the whole series revolves around.

After that comes Mass Effect and Uncharted.

No love for Spyro anywhere? Yeah, the first one is pretty bare-bones when compared to the sequels, but I think this works in its favour. You're completely on your own. The only friendly faces you see are the dragons you rescue. It makes it feel like more of an adventure than the sequels.
And, I don't think I need to go into what makes the sequels so good. I'll just say that I adore these games. I've played them many times before. I'm sure I'll play them many more times, and never get tired of them.

I didn't think Daniel was particularly whiny, he is quite talkative and a bit wide-eyed though.

And I've watched modern anime, so I know something about whiny protagonists who won't ever stop whining.

Admittedly, this is one thing I can respect the MW trilogy for.

It's obviously Mass Effect for me. I grew so close to that trilogy i'm scared of Bioware announces a new one I'm going to not like anything about it..

And The Gears of War trilogy. It was the game that got me into console gaming and it's just one of my favorite games of all time too, so It has to be here :p

Have to go with the Classic Sonic the Hedgehog trilogy (Sonic 1, Sonic 2, and Sonic 3 & Knuckles).

It's fun to go back to those games and seeing the subtle differences in gameplay and overall presentation that this trilogy brings to the table. This is a prime example of having core game mechanics throughout a trilogy while adding subtle changes and improvements that enhances the experience with each installment.

Other notable trilogies include Jak, Ratchet & Clank, Xenosaga, & Uncharted.

Halo trilogy.

Great games, great Trilogy. Nothing after or around the halo universe can capture what the original trilogy was for me.

The Halo trilogy is superb and a wholy unique shooter experience. Its sublime atmosphere, aesthetic and soundtrack meld with frenetic bombastic gameplay to create a truly engageing and operatic melodrama.

Loved every moment of it.

(also Bioshock trilogy)

Biohazard.

Some of the few games that felt serious back then. Games today mostly are comedy power fantasies or just feel like they're trying to hard to pretend to be serious.

This. I don't hold a huge amount of love for the 1st game, but I certainly respect it; it's a good game that acts as a focus point for the next instalment to build upon and refine.
I still stand by the second game being one of the best platformers I've ever come across, in terms of gameplay, design and art direction. It's scope feels really big thanks to the high level count and the physical size of the homeworlds, it has a fantastic sense of exploration and world-building, and its consistently fun and inventive gameplay-wise.
The third takes everything that worked for the first two and refines it further, although I will say the art style and general design cohesion takes a step back.

But yeah this, (as with the naughty dog Crash Bandicoot series, which I'd actually probably put on equal footing with Spyro - even down to the 1st being a tad odd, the second being a marked jump in quality and the third being a refinement with a slightly worse design aesthetic than the last) is really one of my favourite classic era trilogies because of its sense of development over the three games; you can see the developers trying to evolve and refine their works, which is really quite cool.

So, yay, all the nostalgia points for PS1 platformer trilogies!

I can't actually think of a single trilogy that I'd deem appropriate. Uncharted 1 and 2 were great but 3 not so much. All 3 Mass Effect games were great, but they were pretty terrible as a trilogy Cerberus change from mad scientists to hard-line nationalistic extremists to cackling evil. The second games story is pretty much irrelevant. ME1 is a fantastic game and then ME2 and ME3 are a fantastic duology but there isn't really a single story thread that works across all 3 games and all 3 are good for very different reasons. The environments were incredible in ME1, the environments sucked in ME2 and 3. The combat was fantastic in ME3 and sucked in ME1.

And looking through the thread, none of the other games mentioned are satisfying me either. inFamous 1 and 2 is a great one-two, but there's no third. I actually could put FFX and FFX-2 together but I don't think there's another series entry that I've played that really fits in. I haven't played the non 1,2 Kingdom Hearts and even if I had the weird continuity status of the add-ons would prevent me from giving it.

I think the only really cohesive franchise I've ever played where no one game brings everything else down, is the 5 Metal Gear Solids (isn't that weird to say =D). I'm not sure how I could cut that down into a trilogy though. MGS1,2,4? but 3 and Peace Walker are so good too.

I give my vote to the Metroid Prime Trilogy. Even though many complain about 2, I greatly enjoyed it~ The other two? Just... Wow <3

The Devil May Cry trilogy of DMC1, 3 and 4. I have no idea why they skipped 2...
For an actual trilogy I'd go with the Zero Escape, even though the last game isn't out yet. How about the .hack// games, wait there's 4 of those. I think I'm bad at this.

I think I'll just steal The Wykydtron's idea and say Ace Attorney.

I'm gonna have to go with Mass Effect. Ya, the first one had some of the shittiest combat I've ever seen but god damn, that was one hell of a story. Not to mention 2 and 3 had some pretty fun combat, so it all worked out.

The Halo trilogy, probably. All of them great games, and they only got better and better.

TBH I can't even think of many trilogies.
