I only really like the 3D ones, so probably Wind Waker.

Haven't played much of Skyward Sword. It's more simple, and the controls take getting used to, but I love how the story works.
I like the darkness and how epic some parts of Twilight Princess are, and I like Ocarina, but feel it's a bit too empty.
Even so, exploring some parts of Wind Waker is annoying, and tyring to get sunken treasure is a pain in the ass.

Are you writting a poem or something?

Amyway it either Wind Waker or Twilight Princess. There are alot of content in those game despite the flaw which are easily to overcome.

I haven't played all of them, but I'm going to go with the predictable Ocarina of Time. It just struck the right balance of scope, mood and gameplay for me.

Twilight Princess was also good, but I couldn't help be a little dissapointed with it. In my opinion, the narrative of Twilight Princess puts the bar higher than OoT, but jumps the same height or slightly lower in the end. They build up the world and history more thoroughly and grander than OoT and then forget the payoff. So while it might at points be better than OoT, I can't help be a bit dissapointed because TP hints at being better and isn't.

Wind waker was... not what I was expecting, but good enough in it's own right. It's not what I think of when I think 'Zelda', but it was otherwise a fun experience. The sailing didn't bother me, though the hunting for tri-force parts did.

And finally Skyward Sword was... no, I do not see where the reviewers praising it as better than OoT where comming from. I can understand not finding OoT the greatest ever, but if you did thinks so before Skyward Sword came out, I don't understand liking that one better. The gameplay was still good enough, but narratively and mood-wise it fell flat. Nothing of interest was done with the whole Skyloft setting and exploring it is pointless. Two of the three areas were uninspired, tiny and linear, the desert area was the only one that I actually liked. And while the actual things I had to do to complete the game were still fun to do, I agree with Yathzee that it was very poorly explained why I had to do this narrative wise. The motion control combat was okay (though it was annoying to take on bosses with directional blocking. I could see from which angle I had to attack, but if I moved my controler to that angle slowly the boss could just follow, and if I did it fast the game assumed I was trying to swing from my current angle and I got blocked.) And the upgrade system was aweful. In a Zelda game I expect to get my optional equipment improvements from a fun little minigame or quest, NOT by grinding in the desert for endlessly respawning tumbleweed. It isn't a bad game in the end, thanks to the solid gameplay basis of the dungeons, but it's certainly my least favourite Zelda game (not I didn't play any besides those mentioned here).

Probably A Link to the Past closely followed by Ocarina of Tome and Wind Waker

Haven't played Skyward Sword, might buy it sometime when I get my Wii back because little brother's nicked it off me.

In my opinion me favourite is Ocarina, though Majora is good. Phantom Hourglass is meh, Twilight Princess was good and was my favourite (and only one I completed) until I completed Ocarina.

Might get an emulator and play the first one, 2 and Link To The Past.

:( Now I am going to sound odd... but my favourites are the first 2 I played...

1. Links Awakening...
and 2. The Minish Cap

They were the only ones I played at the time when they were actually current... all the others I have gone back to, and even though they were good, I didn't find any as good as the GB two! :p

Definitely Link's Awakening. It explored Link's relationship with Marin more than any other character in the Zelda franchise (save maybe Zelda in Skyward Sword) and the story was top notch.

Twilight Princess, without a doubt. My first Zelda game, I remember being so excited when it came out. Still one of my favorite video games.

I only ever could play through the 2d zelda games without loosing interest, and I have to say a link to the past has to be hands down my favourite, I beat the game 100% at least on 20 different occasions.

Twilight Princess. Best helper character, nice aesthetics and references, and nearly as many dungeons as Link to the Past (I don't judge a Zelda based entirely on the number and quality of dungeons, but they are my favourite part of the games, so it's certainly a factor). The other specific interest of mine this game hit on was wolves.

I only wish it had been less conservative with some of the stronger enemies like Lizafos, Wizrobes and Ironknuckles, to the point that I'll retain a save file just so I can do that massive battle that goes on when you first step into Hyrule Castle's foyer whenever I want. We learned all those new combat skills for a reason, Nintendo.

Not a big fan of Skyward Sword.

Majora's Mask has only veeeeery recently usurped Ocarina of Time as my favorite Zelda game. I absolutely love the feel of the whole game, the peoples' mixture of sheer terror and oblivious denial over their impending doom. The Anju/Kafei sidequest was also one of the most beautiful things in video game history in my opinion, and I teared up a little after helping Cremia and Romani and listening to their dialogue on the third day. In the end, knowing that you've helped improve so many peoples' lives just to see it undone before your very eyes is one of the most incomparable experiences ever.

I notice a great deal of people adore Majora's Mask. I've started it up several times but always failed to get into it. I think the time mechanic kind of throws me off. Zelda games I have always played at a snails pace and never wanted to rush anything. However, I feel I have missed out on a great game. Any encouraging words to help me actually play it and give the game justice? Sadly I don't have access to play it on N64, but I do have it on Wii VC.

It is hard for me to pick a favorite. It is most likely a toss up between Link to the Past and Ocarina of Time. Both of those also have a huge nostalgia factor for me. I at first didn't like Wind Waker due to the sailing, but I eventually gave it an honest go and it was really good likely a 3rd.

Okami what dosent count ok it would be four swords adventures with four players in that case as that was truly masterful.

Single player it would be twilight princess with wind waker just behind (I liked the wolf section in twilight princess I could imagine I was playing a worse Okami game).

The best Zelda is Link to the Past though after the four swords four player one.
I had that same effect when I played Okami after Twilight Princess. I was thinking damn this wolf thing is familiar. I thought Okami pulled it off better and was the better game of the two.

I'm one of those weirdos who likes the oracle games the most. Ages more than seasons probably. Of the 3D its either Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask.

I've noticed that Majora is a pretty polarizing game, so there's probably not much I could say to 100% convince you to like it. One piece of advice I can give is to play the Inverted Song of Time (Normal Song of time but backwards). It slows the time progression. Very nice to have active. The only other thing I can say is to go ahead and try. I hated it on my first few times playing, but I promise you that it is well rewarding.

1. Twilight Princess
2. Ocarina of Time
3. Majora's Mask
###. Majora's Mask
###. Skyward Sword

Bear in mind that I have not played hardly any of the 2D Zeldas - I think Four Swords Adventure(s?) is pretty much it. I will, however, say that there's no way I could possibly dislike them more than I do Skyward Sword, and probably Wind Waker as well. Wind Waker's visuals, as well as Skyward Sword's to a lesser degree, disgusted me. I also hated the whole sailing/flying thing both games have going on. Sailing was just a boring time-waster usually, while flying became painful because I hate motion controls and motion controls hate me - which basically sums up the rest of what I could say about Skyward Sword....except that Skyward Sword also had the most annoying sidekick out of all the games - and perhaps out of every game ever. And no dialogue skip, unlike Twilight Princess. And also, now that I think of it, a lot of the characters, especially in the beginning, were weird and/or annoying. Especially Zelda and Grouse + his gang. Grouse, admittedly, did get a little better, but that doesn't fix the rest of the game.

In reality, Wind Waker was mostly alright, (Skyward Sword was not), but it was a huge disappointment in comparison to either Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask. When I first played Majora's Mask, I thought it was decent. Not great, but decent. When I played it through the second time, I really began to realize how much I didn't care for the game, and I only got to the Deku Tree on my third playthrough before I realized I now hated the game and quit.

Ocarina of Time, on the other hand, is probably the most solid game. Somewhat annoying companion, true, but everything else is pretty much great. Twilight Princess, while not being quite as solid as Ocarina of Time - sometimes, I felt as though the dungeon design was a bit...lacking, or at least not as much fun as Ocarina of Time's - gets my vote for favorite Zelda game simply because of its lovely companion. Majora's Mask is weird and somewhat different, but fun, so it goes above MM/SS.

Twilight Princess (Don't look at me like that, I'm only 3 poes from 100% and I haven't used a guide at all)

Skyward Sword

Windwaker

Majora's Mask

Ocarina of Time

Those are the only ones I've played, and putting OoT at the bottom of nay list hurts me, but it just doesn't have the features that make later games as fun, like mounted combat, or orchestral music. Though, if I were ranking them based on when they came out, MM would win.

So am I the only one who has never found a companion annoying? The closest I got was Fi when she would tell me my controller was almost dead, but otherwise I found her amusing. I always liked Navi, to the point that she is my notification sound on my phone.
