Murdering a hydra the size of a skyscraper by jamming a splintered ship mast through it's eyeball was also a rather fun way to start the game

Final Fantasy 7's opening is very memorable and ominus


As much as a HATE FF8, it had a really awesome opening.


Final Fantasy 6's opening shows you don't need pretty graphics to be both effective and awe inspiring.

First off I'll say Bioshock because at this point not saying it is like missing a head: people are going to notice.

But my favorite opening has to be that of Fable 2. The camera following the sparrow through the snowy country side as the orchestra plays that beautiful yet haunting tune, swerving through the buildings as the sparrow perches on a roof and takes a very emphasized crap right on to the very dirty and disheaveld head of your character. Perfect.

Hearing Ron Perlman's soothing tones only to be thrown blood soaked out of your mom's lower bits while Liam Neeson talks in the background deserves at least an honorable mention.

Also the opening to Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines where your doing it one moment, only to wake up a vampire, get staked, get carted off to a vampiric court room, and then thrown out into a tutorial where John DiMaggio takes you under his wing as his vampiric student.

Thats pretty awesome too.

Maybe just a throwback to my childhood, but the opening for the original sidescrolling Duke Nukem. That, Final Fantasy VIII, and Worms Apocalypse. All games I played when I was young, so maybe nostalgia is affecting my judgement.

Bioshock, no contest. The transition from cutscene to game play was so seamless after the crash, I honestly took about 3 minutes of just floating there before I realized "holy fuck, I'm playing!"

Silent Hill 2+3 are creepy and beautiful at the same time

Mass Effect, Bioshock and System Shock 2 had the perfect beginning to get me interested

Final Fantasy 8. It's an opera
