I can really get behind Oga and Sanji. But Tsuna? Really?

You, sir, have incredible taste. I can't wait for more Gahara-san this summer! :D

All that teasing she does, and that wit she has.

Though I'm compelled to say Eureka from Eureka seveN, I like her better in the anime than the manga.

So I go with Ichigo Kurosaki from Bleach instead.

Sure, Tsuna is a very popular character in the series, he is usually first or second (behind Hibari) in popularity polls.

I liked his character, he also kicks a ton of ass later on (see Varia arc) I admit, I wish we got a better ending, the one we got was very underwhelming.

Its all opinions anyway.
Ya, I mean, he's had his moments, but...

...it annoyed me to no end that he stays such a wimp after everything he's been through. It was understandable that he didn't want to do shit when a hitman baby came around and said "Yo, I'm from the Mafia and you be killin' some bitches!". But after kicking Varia's ass, going to kick ass in the fuckin' future and then kick ass back here against a rival family, he's still the same douchy wimp he was at the start of the series! And then it just ended!
...sorry about that rant >.> The ending just really pissed me off 's all.

But yeah, opinions :D

Really? Happy? I... I just really hate that fucking cat. I do agree on Gray and Bobobo-Bo Bo-Bobo, though.

As for me... I've always been partial to two rather creepy villains:

and

Orochimaru because he's an immense weirdo who uses snakes for everything, and I love snakes. Plus, he's only gotten cooler now that he's back.

Aizen... well, he's handsome as balls.

This guy:
Why? Because he's strong noble, pure of heart, and he doesn't let stuff get to him except the important stuff like the suffering of others esp. his friends and family. Also he never gives up and he always gives his all in everything he does. I sure as hell wish I was more like that.

Well there's so many to choose from, so to narrow it down I try and think of one character who alone makes the manga.

This lass instantly comes to mind...

Probably Hummingbird from Deadman Wonderland. She's a nutcase, yeah, but the kind that gets you really hooked on a show for being so unexpected. Also she gets pretty funny in the Manga when encountering cute things.

Askeladd from Vinland Saga. A wily, charming, conniving, and utter ruthless mercenary captain. A man who could charm the birds from the trees and yet is entirely without scruple. I long to see the day HBO make a live action drama out of it and get Robert Downey Jnr. to play him.

Lady Kushana from Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. Possibly the most human figure Miyazaki has ever produced. A girl thrown into a world and forced to survive any way that she can. As with Askeladd, she serves as a damning indictment on the pitiless surroundings that produced her.

I guess I have too many favourites to list and my single favourite probably changes depending on what mood I'm in or in the case of ongoing series what has recently happened to alter my opinions.

If you ignore ongoing sereis then I can limit my favourites to Roy Mustang, ther Armstrong Siblings, Fuhrer King Bradley, Solf J Kimblee and Edward Elric from FMA as my favourite manga characters, and not because FMA is the only completed manga series I have read (though I guess you wouldn't know from looking at the list).

Actually, Griffith is interesting. Although I'm not quite sure what his deal is yet. It would be awesome if he actually had some kind of sympathetic goal in mind rather than just being evil.
You mean pre- or post Godhand Griffith?

Before Griffith becomes part of the Godhand, I think the point isn't why he has megalomaniacal ambitions , but that he has 'm so that they conflict with his relationship with Guts.
No, I mean post Godhand.

It would be interesting if he was working towards something sympathetic or noble. Then Guts inevitably comes along as the avenger of past sins despite Griffith having achieved something really great.

It would certainly be more interesting than having Griffith just be doing all the messianic malarky for the sake of power or something equally trite. Then Guts comes along, they have a fight, Griffith turns into a demon, Guts hits him with a sword a whole lot, etc etc. Meh.

Oh, incidentally, it was your praise of the series that got me to read it.

By the way, do you know how many volume are available in English? I could only find up to #37 online.

Well, initially I thought it was pretty interesting that after Griffith's rebirth he was actually doing some pretty noble things and helping people out big time. It kind of made it hard for you to hate him when he's saving people from that emperor Ganishka. But we'll have to see what happens now that all the different layers of existence have apparently merged into one. I'm also interested in seeing what Rickert is going to do when he sees Griffith again.

There's also the issue of Caska and what's going to happen to her once/if she regains her memories. It's been hinted at that she might very well leave Guts, and perhaps maybe even join Griffith. That act would most certainly completely destroy Guts. And then there's the black haired moon child which is obviously Guts and Caska's son.

I don't know if you're aware of this, but there's also a deleted chapter that I think chronologically takes place during the Eclipse where Griffith meets God, who appears in the shape of this big, black dimension spinning heart. Apparently it was scrapped because it gave away too much too soon.

In my opinion though, I feel the series took a bit of a tumble ever since volume 23, and I don't think it will ever get as good as it used to be. They screwed up Farnese's character by not having her screwed up anymore, and my loathing for the Berserk armor is unfathomable. I'm afraid I don't see this series ending with any of the shine left that it used to have. But I am glad that fucking mermaid/seamonster shit is over. That just went on and on.

As for the volumes, I think #37 is as far is the series is right now. The author tends take his sweet time on new chapters.

And yay for me getting other people to read this epic work!

Alpha is one of my favorite characters, though it's more because YKK is one of my favorite manga of all time.
You'd never guess that this was a story set in a post apocalyptic where robots are slowly taking over.

Shiro from Kabu no Isaki is nice too.

Fon Spaak

Kicked out of a terrorist organisation as a child for being too violent.

Becomes Gundam pilot.

Setsuna loses to mass produced GNXs in a third generation Gundam, prompting the use of the fourth generation Gundams. Fon destroys GNXs in a second generation Gundam.

Neck gets blown up mid fight. Keeps fighting, viewing the battle through the one hole in his helmet not covered in his own blood.

Simon from Gurren Lagann (his characterization is fantastic, and how he grows to become the hero through such hardships was amazing)

Naruto Uzumaki or Hinata Hyuga from Naruto/Shippuden (initially he starts out really goddamn annoying, but grows throughout the story; Hinata is awesome because 1. she's adorably shy and 2. she constantly strives to be better because of the one person in the world who matters to her)

Senji 'The Crow' from Deadman Wonderland (he's just too badass)

Black Star from SoulEater (I like him personally because of how he differs from other main characters/heroes, instead of constantly whining about needing to get stronger, he just straight up trains his ass off to become better, not to mention his partnership with Tsubaki is amazing)
Yeah, loving Simon for growing up like a boss, and Senji for being a badass. ^_^

It's strange for you to mention both Naruto and Black Star.
I remember someone mentioning that the author admitted to using Naruto as a template for Black Star.

- They're both orphans.
- They're both feared by villagers. (Nine tails/Star Clan)
- They both want to strive greatness. (Hokage/"Greater than God")
- Friendship and Rivalries. (Sasuke/Death the Kid)

At least I find Black Star way more fun than Naruto, as the latter has become a boring Mary Sue by this point that I don't give two shits about. Plus, the former is way less preachy....

--Oh, Guts from Berserk, but everyone else already mentioned him. :T

--Vash or Wolfwood from Trigun. Awesome gunslingers!

--Sanji from One Piece. He can be badass one chapter, and a hilarious (and often lovelorn pervert) goofball in the next..

--Pop from Dragon Quest: Dai No Daboken manga. If you want an underdog going into a straight up badass genius tactictian role, this is one of the best ones I have read. I often considered this manga better than Dragonball, especially after Akira stopped giving a damn halfway through the Frieza arc.

Strangely, I liked everything about Berserk, even the Berserker armor and the Mermaind Island arc.
But that maybe because I ended burning all the waythrough the manga into the weekend that I never thought back into those chapters. I finished it just as is about moved into where it currently is....

Perhaps it felt a lot more natural to me?
The author is also working on Idolmaster, which seems to be more popular in Japan, given its high regard to Idol girls. Which is why they're not working on it as much. (Yes, it annoys me too)
