My pick would be Storm of the Light's Bane by Dissection. All the songs are distinctly different, yet thematically and atmospherically related. I just love the way 'At the Fathomless Depths' flows into 'Night's Blood'. And 'Where Dead Angels Lie'! Tis brilliant, I tell you. Also, it has my favourite album cover of all time.
I love you.

My personal favorite on that MASTERPIECE is 'Thorns of Crimson Death'.

A black metal album with stunning emotion and atmosphere.

OT:

Strapping Young Lad: City

Fear Factory: Demanufacture

Iron Maiden: Somewhere in Time

Death - Symbolic

Carcass - Heartwork

Sepultura - Chaos A.D.

I'm actually kind of disappointed that no one has attempted some lame joke about an album made of metal.

Though any joke like that surely would be awful.

Still, disappointed, though, in a way...

Pendulum's last album had a metal box. At least the special addition did. One or two of the songs on it are metal as fuck too.

Favorite is something I can't do when it comes to albums. But one I really like is Dance Of Death by Iron Maiden.
Personally I'd say Seventh Son of a Seventh Son, Fear of the Dark, and Brave New World were their best ones.

Exactly what it says on the tin, really, what's your favourite metal album(by metal, I'm covering a pretty broad spectrum, heavy rock, hardcore punk, etc, also acceptable.)

My overall favourite is probably Mastodon's Leviathan, but Slipknot's Vol. 3.0: The Subliminal Verses and Black Sabbath's eponymous album come pretty close.
Please learn that slipknot is not - ugh, nevermind. I might as well read your thread rules.

You love Metallica so much you can't even spell their name right!

My favorite albums would be:

Artificial Emotions by Hieronymus Bosch - Progressive Death Metal
Traced in Air by Cynic - Jazz Fusion/Technical Death Metal
Cosmic Genesis by Vintersorg - Progressive/Black Metal with Folk Influences
Neurotripsicks by Gorod - Technical Death Metal
Sing Along Songs for the Damned and Delirious by Diablo Swing Orchestra - Avant-garde Metal
The Scepter of the Ancients by Psycroptic - Technical Death Metal

I have a live DVD by Macabre with a metal case. The Murder Metal album by those guys also ranks rather high in my metal collection. They have one of the most demented sounds since Captain Beefheart!

Also, I would like to add Focus by Cynic as an album I would consider damn-near flawless. Progressive death metal/jazz fusion ear-and-mindgasm.

PS. I love you too, honeymunchkin!

This is beyond a difficult choice to make, ideally it would be a top 100 metal albums since I probably have about 100 favorite albums(at least!)

Gojira - From Mars To Sirius

I found this band about 8 months ago, and got really into them really fast(Gojira will do that to you, once you understand them, you are hooked) So I listened and listened; And listened and listened. Then I listened some more, and after that I listened a little bit more.

Then I was confused

I thought to myself, man, I can't remember listening to a band/album so much before, this is easily way longer than I would usually listen to an album/band before looking for something new. Then I listened some more, and you know what? It kept getting better and better. I listen to Gojira multiple times a week, week in - week out, and I still love them, I see no signs of slowing down yet. And honestly, if you are gonna pick your favorite album, it has to be the one you listened to 500 times then still came back looking for more. And no other band/album has done that like Gojira.

*EDIT* Oh and everything ever written by Death, I forgot about them because I haven't listened to them in a while, lol.

All amazing choices, so glad you said Kiuas, that albums is nothing short of amazing, such an under rated band.

Dimmu Borgir, Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia
Slipknot, Vol3
Kamelot, Black Halo
Genghis Tron, Board Up the House
The Kovenant, Animatronic
Children of Bodom, Blood Drunk
Lykathea Aflame, Elvenfris

Almost impossible to chose 1 from those... so I'm going with The Berzerker - World of Lies instead :D
