Forgot to mention one - Albert Witchfinder, one of the best clean doom vocalists out there. And Messiah Marcolin of Candlemass. Both are very good for clean vocalists, no doubt.

I guess this makes two, then.

Also, what's up with no-one mentioning Ozzy Osbourne? Is it implied that he's the one responsible for all of this, or is it just that no-one really likes him?

Love Sabbath, but definitely not because of Ozzy. While almost anything written by Iommi is golden, Dio was far better, IMO.

Let the crucifixion begin.
Ozzy doesn't have a great voice but he wrote some awesome vocal melodies. I'm not really as big a fan of the later stuff to be honest, much prefer the bluesier stuff.

Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden.
Ronnie James Dio of Rainbow, Dio, and the real Black Sabbath.
Thomas Quorthon of Bathory.
Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth.
Matt Levins of Therion.
Hansi Kursch of Blind Guardian and Demons and Wizards.
Matt Barlow of Iced Earth.
James LaBrie of Dream Theater.
Mikeal Stanne of Dark Tranquility.
Tobias Sammet of Edguy.
Rob Lowe of Candlemass and Solitude Aeternus.
Vibeke Stene from Tristania.
Andreas Hedlund of Vintersorg.

And a major thumbs up to the guy above who mentioned Dan Swano. Nightingale is a truly underated band.

Dishonorable mentions:

Phil Anselmo.
Anders Frieden.
Jamey Jasta.
That guy from Lamb of God.
Alexi Laiho of Children of Bodom.

This folks, is not what metal is supposed to sound like. Call me a rabid fan of the classics and "fantasy" stuff, but overall the people above haven't contributed to anything but their wallets, American rednecks, and anything worthwhile in a long time. As for Anders...In Flames betrayed their style, atmosphere, and roots in turn of trying to pay the bills while making metal. Alexi is a high school dropout who can't do anything else besides make embarassing Hot Topic required music for ignorant teenagers who have no true grasp of musical talent. *jumps on his skateboard*

Tim McIlrath from Rise Against. Full spectrum here guys; he can sing soft acoustic ballads beautifully, and scream with the best of 'em.

Instead of stating a few that have been mentioned a lot, i'll just say Erik "Legion" Hagstedt, fucking listen to Panzer Division Marduk.

Underrated tier = Michael Kiske. Deris is very good but Kiske is superior. Shame Helloween went to shit (fucking hamsters) and he left to do POP MUSIC. KoTSK part 2 is better than part 1 by the way.
Ah, good ol' Heavy Metal Hamsters.
I hate that album but at least it's kinda funny, Chameleon on the other hand is 'Nope.avi, The album'.

Good that they got back on track with Deris though, he's underrated simply for not being Kiske. But the Dark Ride and Gambling with the devil are especially brilliant Helloween albums that feature him, not quite KoTSK maybe but who cares.
And they still have their sense of humour.

Aye, I didn't think much of the recent album though...quite metal-coreish.

But still they're awesome live. Saw them in December last year.

I disagree with Phil Anselmo on the dishonourable mentions, but then again, I Down & Pantera are pretty awesome. Each to their own after all.

Depending on what I'm feeling at the moment, ether Serj Tankian from System of a Down or Howard Jones from Killswitch Engage.

Dan Tompkins from TesseracT, Christian Alvestam, Spencer Sotelo of Periphery, Greg Puciato, of The Dillinger Escape Plan, M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, Rody Walker of Protest the Hero.

Great voices, except it took Shadows a while to find his.

Eddie Vedder from Pearl Jam. The emotion you get from his voice is pretty incredible. I don't care if it isn't exactly hard rock. He is the best vocalist. I also love Joe Strummer

Either Stu Block from Into Eternity, or Christian Älvestam from Scar Symmetry. Well, was from Scar Symmetry. Stu block has a better vocal range, but Christian's vocals 'sound' better.
But Stu's voice still sounds great and Christian still has a great vocal range.

This song probably shows off his vocal range more than their other songs, I think.

I couldn't at all decide which song his vocals sound best in, so I'll just show the one that shows off his vocal range most. It'll do, I think.

King Diamond of Mercyful Fate, Marco Hietala of Tarot/Nightwish, Geddy Lee of Rush, Rob Halford of Judas Priest, and Sascha Konietzko of KMFDM (Not hard rock or metal per se, but still awesome) are the first five that spring to mind.

I'm actually fairly surprised most of these haven't been mentioned yet, but that's just my opinion.

Very simple topic who is your favourite metal/ hardrock singer/ vocalist and why...

Personally mines David Draiman of Disturbed because of his power, range and uniqueness
I have come to kill that good impression you have of him! HAHAHAHAHA!
I don't think you have ruined him for me, just sayin...
No! I have! Don't lie.

OK, he doesn't usually sound like that. I think it was probably just because he was live and performing with no backing track. He's still not that good though.
I don't think so still, I saw Disturbed live in Melbourne on easter and they, as always, were toatlly bloody awsome, especially David.

If asked my favorite overall, it'd probably roll out some industrial entries, but on topic:

Devin Townsend?

Jens Kidman?

Not saying they're the best, just my pref.
