Can be any genre of music, but has to be the opposite sex to you. Name your 3 favourite songs by them too, if you like. If you are currently pre-op, then feel free to pick and choose between.

For me, it would be Marina and the Diamonds. She's a brilliant lyricist, and it miles above most of the crap that the big labels churn out these days. Her voice is beautiful, and she comes across in interviews as being really clever and genuine, and just and all-round lovely person. She sings about personal issues genuine probems with modern society, and for that reason she's pretty much the only female artist that I really like.

Plus, she's bloody gorgeous. I think I'm slightly in love with her...

Favourite songs by her:

1. Numb
2. I Am Not a Robot
3. Mowgli's Road

But there's loads more.

One wonders at the necessity of such a proviso, there are talented musicians of both sexes in abundance... but, no matter...

Ilaria Graziano, if one could only make love to a voice...

True, but I find that many of my male friends don't particularly like many female artists, unless they dress in skanky clothes and sing about sex all the time, that is. Methinks they do have favourites, but they're just afraid to admit it at the risk of looking 'gay'. On here, considering everyone is more-or-less anonymous, it would be a good place to see what people really think.

She can make anything my favorite song just by covering it.

Yumm.

I've got so many, especially in bands (Sleater-Kinney is frikken incredible), but in terms of solo artists definitely Cat Power.

Moon Pix is one of my favourite albums, a excellent slice of Slowcore, and complementary Indie. I just love the moody atmosphere she creates with her music. Best enjoyed by leaning out of a window smoking a cigarette while having deep thoughts of regret.

Here are my favourite songs.

I also love the hell out of Siouxxie Sioux. She's got so much energy and charisma it's insane. I wish new female singers could be the same as her.

So, so incredibly badass...

Your friends are misogynistic idiots, pure and simple.

I agree. I probably should have said 'acquaintances' instead of 'friends', because though I get along with them and they have no problems with me, I don't particularly like them.
My proper friends aren't like that to be honest, they don't all share my tastes, but they do at least know good music.

Eva Spence! Apart from having an awesome voice, she's pretty much the only woman I can think of that can make that kind of noise and without basically being a guy.

Hmm, tough choice, there's a lot of them.
Can't pick one so here are some that instantly come to my mind:

Erykah Badu:

Alice Russel:

Soopasoul (don't know the name of the vocalist but she's great):

Alicia Keys (especially the song in the clip):

Well (on the basis that they're not total assholes/idiots), they're either really insecure about something, I haven't the faintest idea what, or they're trying to overcompensate for something that isn't even an issue... *shrug* o_O'

OT (again): Katie Melua... man, her voice is dreamy!

I find her to be a good singer, with an interesting voice, but I don't like the songs she writes. She therefore falls under the category of 'good cover artists' for me.

<spoiler=Example of a good cover>

OT: For me it would probably be Sara Bareilles (at the moment, anyway)

Surprised not to see more Lindsey Stirling. I always assumed she was the matron goddess of nerds.

So yeah, that's mine.

Favorites being the above, her Lord of the Rings Medley, and her original Epic Violin Girl video.

Yuki Kajiura, anime soundtrack composer, easily my favourite. Violins, pianos, and her made-up language ho!

Mine is Tegan/Sara Quin.

They write catchy, simple folk/pop/rock songs with great melodies that don't wear out their welcome. Their lyrics are above par and they have endearing voices that harmonize perfectly. They also are pretty clean, so I can let my little siblings listen.

Favourite songs would be Hell, The Ocean (acoustic), and possibly Call It Off or Back In Your Head.
