Don't hear much about racing games on the escapist, just wanted to know what your favourite racing games are. Mine are the wipeout games for PS1, unfortunately I can't play the new wipeout HD game because I don't have a PS3.

F-Zero GX. No game will ever have a better soundtrack or challenge me more than that game. Nothing.

Mario Kart: Double Dash. There is something undeniably enjoyable about being able to punch Baby Mario in the face.

SSX Tricky.
I'm counting that as a racing game because there is a lot of racing used.
Failing that, the original Mario Kart.

Mario Kart, because it's the only one I can win at. Really, I suck hard at all the other ones.

Gran Turismo 3 was excellent. It's definitely the racing game I've clocked the most hours on, sadly I swapped it for Baldur's Gate with a friend.

Then again I didn't exactly race on GT3. Once I'd got either a F1 car or that Suzuki with the massive spoiler the game became a doodle. But it'll always have a place in my heart.

And SSX Tricky wasn't a bad shout, but personally I think 3 took everything with Tricky and improved it. Maybe not in a racing sense, making this irrelevant, but as a overall game.

Are you kidding me? F-Zero X's soundtrack was far better. Ask anyone.

Ontopic, Trackmania hands down. I can't think what else to add.

I can hardly say any of the games mentioned so far have anything to do with racing... Forza and GT maybe.

For me it's rFactor, so much community made content it never stops!

F-Zero X is my favorite racing game. I don't play them very often. I do play Mario Kart for the Wii with friends every now and then, though.

Wipeout HD
Motorstorm, I like the destructive nature of gameplay, it's hectic and exciting

rFactor is the best sim I've ever played, unfortunately for me as much as I love them, I suck at racing sims and yet I can't stand full arcade racers.

I know it isn't a proper sim, but for me Need for Speed: Shift hits the sweet spot between sim and arcade. The skinner box upgrade system digs its claws into me in a big way too.

If the AI cars weren't cheating bastards then F1 2010 could have had the title. It is pretty sweet post patches ,but the fact that the laptimes don't match the actual AI laps iss a major flaw.

The SimBin games are pretty good too. I've had some fun times online with Race 07/ Race On, great force-feedback especially for the front wheel drive cars, but a bit too hardcore for me to be a competitive driver.

Never liked racing games but I do remember playing in highschool Lotus on the early 586DX PCs. Was actually not a bad game.

This man knows his stuff.

My favourite racing game is probably either F-Zero GX, or Sonic Riders 1 (I played the HELL out of that game. 100% clear, got so good I would deliberately handicap myself just so the AI stood even a small chance.)

The Burnout series has to be my favorite. I love just about any game that's over-the-top, and a racing game where being reckless and even crashing is encouraged is right up my alley.

F-Zero and Mario Kart are also fun - I really, really want a new F-Zero right about now.

On the other hand, I'm not at all fan of the realistic racing sims. I got Forza 3 with my second 360 and while I can tell it is a good game and can fully understand why some people enjoy it, it just bored me.

The Suzuki Escudo Pikes Peak Version J? That car is amazing.

My favourite racing game is probably Gran Turismo 2, currently, Gran Turismo 5/Forza 3.
