Depends on the girl. To bolster your confidence, allow me to let you in on a secret:

Ask a girl out; only the right ones say "yes".

Also, you were born a winner. You were the fastest sperm.

I hope this helped. ^_^
but what if all the sperm were retarded and you were only slightly less retarded? does that entail winning too?
That's okay. They only want to drag you down, because they don't want to be alone.

You are the sole surviving veteran of a hundred psychic wars.
I ask because a normal guy running in the Special Olympics isn't exactly winning now is it? Its more akin to cheating.
If you're only slightly less retarded than the other sperm, then it isn't cheating.

It's survival.

If you're a normal guy running in the Special Olympics, my condolences. The judges and game sponsors thought you seemed "special enough" to compete.

Meh. I say try and be confident to be honest. Sure, being shy can be cute to a certain extent, but you really screw with your ability to speak at that point. If you're too shy, you're going to get nowhere. At least with some confidence you'll be able to carry a conversation of sorts with this girl.

A woman that wants attention from a guy in the form of a "relationship"(define that as loosely as possible, the opposite of it is friend) may attempt to define "shyness" as cute as an excuse to attempt to advance a relationship without waiting for the usual cues from a guy. It's not that they find the act of not giving them attention they want attractive, but rather they want the attention from badly enough that they rationalize it as being cute.

If the guy is paying, girl's love a shy guy.

But generally, if shyness is sometimes seen as "cute" that's being "a nice guy".

Girls admire confidence.

Well I'm currently in possession of a penis, but...

Shy's fine, but you've still got to break the ice. If you blush, grunt and wet yourself, that's not so good. If you work your bumbling Hugh Grant magic, you could be in with a shot.

All us ladies are different with different preferences, it's kind of like asking if girls like eggplant. But yeah, a lot of girls do find shyness endearing. Being shy just means that you probably won't get noticed easily. But if you're willing to make the first move, then are you really all that shy? Heh.

Mate, never mind girls finding you attractive, shyness doesn't get you anywhere (except perhaps, in this case, charity from a girl - but is that what you're really after?). It's fine to be private, quiet, man of few words... but there's a fine line between that and dull, creepy and annoying.

You're worrying too much already about how you're going to impress this girl. Give yourself some credit, doesn't she have to impress you first? I take it you've already been to this staff party.. my advice would have been don't drink too much and don't worry about her. Be friendly and civil, if she's hot she's gonna have every asshole in their hounding her anyway. As long as she knows you're not a freak or a dick then I imagine she'll approach you in her own time.

Heh, most answers here are totally opposite of what girls I know usually answer to this question. Then again, they don't hang around on the internet. :p

Slightly offtopic, but I have noticed (on this site and elsewhere) most guys do seem to find shy girls attractive.
