I'll play video games with my boyfriend. I'm getting a 360 in order to get back to my fighting game status and proceed to kick my boyfriend's ass again. For now, I just own at Rock Band, Guitar Hero. I'm slowly getting back into my gamer status. It gives something for my boyfriend and I to do as well as something to talk about.

We're rare. Especially if we're cute.

I feel like I'm Mew when you say that.

And high-fives for kicking boyfriend arse! The only game mine beats me at is Katamari Damacy, which.. slightly concerns me. :p

I think a big issue with the whole female gamer thing is that there is still the huge stigma put on girls who play games, especially if they're not on a Wii or Guitar Hero. Everyone instantly assumes these are the only games girls seem to play... otherwise they're fat shut-in ugly nerdy girls.

Something I've always found amusing given my last three girlfriends have all been hardcore gamers who I'd have to pry off of Gears of War or Halo 3. They were all stick thin, smoking hot girls to boot... mainly cause well I'm a fairly shallow guy when it comes to looks ^_^

Point is though they're out there, thing is because of the comment/stigma above that male gamers particularly americans actually tend to scare them off wanting to even talk on the headsets. A number of times one of my Exs' deliberately mutes herself or invites me to party chat simply so she doesn't have to deal with that type of gamer.

It doesn't seem to help either when a good number of those types of american gamer get their girlfriends to play on their accounts with them in the background and they always sound like airhead blondes who "need" their boyfriends help to play a game. I think if there were a lot less american adolesents on Xbox Live, the hardcore girl gamer wouldn't be to many like seeing the lock ness monster or bigfoot... they really do exist, they just think most of you gamers are dicks. And tbh given the days I get on Xbox Live to play a few rounds of Gears 2 ot Halo 3 with friends who just happen to be fairly hot chicks, the stuff people say to them if I got the same treatment I'd probably ignore most of you too.

In-fact tbh, I do ignore most people on Halo 3 and Gears. There are so many retards on those games.. mind that's what you get when you have a country that doesn't seem to really care what the hell their kids are doing and will buy them anything just to shut them up. Damn shame our country is starting to head the same way. Sodding american infection upon the uk.

Ahahaha. It's just funny because one of the biggest stereotypes that I know of is if a girl she has to be ugly. So when guys see my picture and know I play video games, I generally get a "What the fuck?" response. Along with the "Why are you playing games and not going out?" Oh boys, how sill you can be. I don't mind being "Mew". Mew is fuckin' adorable on a stick. I prefer Pichu, but that's just me. :3

Ahaha, I got that kind of response a couple days ago when a guy in my English class overheard me talking about Bioshock. It's hilarious. And sometimes it's good to come out of hiding, because my boyfriend and I became best friends when we would sit together at lunch reading gaming magazines and eagerly anticipating the release of the Wii/Twilight Princess together. But then you get random jerks who just want your number.. >:|

I don't know why people react so differently to women on xbox live as opposed to how they react to women in real life.
Way back in the day, gamer boys would act like this around a D&D table. I, uh, I mean they got over their social awkwardness.

Oddly enough, it kinda repeated itself when I started playing DDO...my first online game with voice chat.

You'd think, after having several gamer girlfriends and now being married to a gamer wife, that'd I'd be long passed it by now. Some reptilian part of my brain that still goes "duuurt duh duuurrr BOOBIES!!"

Of course. But that's the typical male mentality. Why I prefer guys of a more nerdier/geekier proportion. They appreciate you for who you are (simply cause they're damn happy to have any one) and treat you like gold. But if you have a similar interest, it takes their awkwardness to something that is greatly desired in a relationship. Communication. Even though I'm more on the opposite side of the spectrum to my boyfriend:

Artist (art nerd)= Me <_____________Sepectrum_____________> Network Admin/IT = Boyfriend (tech geek)
Common Ground: Video Games/Technology

Granted, I took a few semesters in computer systems and always had a love for technologies and electronics because of my dad. So we have more things to talk about and he's always willing to teach me stuff about his field of interest. It helps because I don't feel so out of the loop when he decides to bust out his tech jargon. So glad I can get the general gist of it. So of course, he's gonna talk about the latest technology, video games, etc. Hell, he'll make me try it to see if I like it. Why I'm pretty much in love with Fallout 3 because of watching him play. Mmm... I wonder what we're gonna play this weekend?

girl gamer have the plus of having small fingers so they hit the button they want to. wit girls it is always to an extreme in gaming. they are either wickedly awesome at a game or play worse than a five hundred pound gorilla chewing on the controller. unfortunately my cousins are the latter. my girl friend is the fore which is great but it makes you feel like a bit of a prick when you can't beat a woman whom inherantly has no balls.(funny joke.) also she rubs it in my face which, as insults go, is right up there with castration. (chopping off a guys balls.) i feel that girl gamers are equal to male gamers. and my girlfriend loves to blow zombies apart limb from limb. she got so addicted to l4d she literally needed me to come to the system and force her to pause it to eat lunch. also she, for some odd reason, has ripped me apart as a special zombie more times than i can remember. which leads to the question, is she imagining me in poor Francis's position? and when ur online you would blow up any player that comes along thinking they are all guys but the moment one is identified as a girl we all take pity on them. i would kill them all the same and you guys should to!

I think it's great for chicks to play games. It's not like its a taboo for females, so why does it matter if they do or don't? I'm pro gaming no matter who it is, so its great to see more people enjoying it. The only problem most women have on most games is the fact that horny little kids are constantly shouting, "CAN I SEE YOUR BOOBIES??!!"

Yes, this has actually happened. Multiple times. I feel for the chick gamers.

Ah, I know what you mean; I think I'm my boyfriend's first girlfriend/first kiss, and he does treat me like gold.. Which makes me feel a little bad because I always act so casually, but still..

And you guys should play Uncharted together if you have a PS3. :p Me and my boyfriend spent 11 hours one day trying to beat the game.

I find it interesting when people mention their wife/gf/SO is into videogaming they go one to say just how many "bad ass" games they play like Halo, some RTS/FPS, WoW or other game. Totally trying to invalidate all the casual games as...well...NOT games, even so much to exclude RPGs as well.

I don't see what the hype is about girl gamers, they just like everyone eles. If I ran into a female gamer then...... ok I run into one I don't jump the gun on it. But in a recent incidint my cousin who likes to lagg his girlfriend(s) around my ps3 and things be purchased that don't need 2 be, ie. the new skins for resistance 2 were you can play as a female. Now I was playing as a female ,mainly because I was'nt paying attention to what "changes" were made to my character, and was sucking badly, so some of the other players started bashing me on my poor playing but when one of em got a look that I was a "girl," the attitude changed and now it was alrite that I was playing badly I was a girl in thier eyes.

I have never met a girl that plays any computer games other than n64 zeldas and the wii :(
That's just depressing. Being a girl, I'd admit to having a certain fondness of the Zelda games (which is completely unrelated to my gender, btw, I'm just a sucker for Nintendo because I grew up with it), but I still find myself cackling maniacally when I watch my army of skeletons trample enemies into piles of blood and guts in Diablo 2, or muse over Nightmare as he impales Kilik on his massive... sword (bring me a GameCube and SoulCalibur 2 and I'll polish the floor with you). But then again, I'm also the kind of girl who genuinly enjoys watching splatter movies.

I'm a female gamer. I used to just play Spryo, Need for Speed and Crash Bandicoot because I only had a PS2, then I got a Wii and started playing No More Heroes and Rock Band and things like that, because I HATED first person shooters. My boyfriend and his brother tried to teach me how to play Halo on Xbox but I couldn't grasp the idea of using both joysticks. I tried running but just ended up looking down. I gave it up and played SSBB.
Then I started playing Left 4 Dead and almost immediately became good at it. Just learned how to play RE5 too.
I'm no good at games on Steam or anything like that; too many buttons to push and controlling the mouse. I just prefer to watch my boyfriend play those. He's SUPER good at it.
I still don't understand why people think that female gamers are so rare. True I don't know that many of us personally but there are a lot more that people think.

I was my boyfriend's first kiss (he had a couple more after we broke up in HS and got back together in our college years). I'm the same way. I can be pretty indifferent and just "Eh, whatever." But oh well. I still love him to death.

Speaking of beating games together; We played Castle Crashers together, beat it and got all the achievements. Even hooked up the Rock Band instruments to do the "Heal 4 Players" achievement thing. I loved that game so much~!

My roommate plays MMOs (including EQII, WOW, Nexus, and (briefly) Guild Wars) daily and nigh-constantly (she's on disability). I don't run into her online because we've only (briefly) played Guild Wars together and that's the only MMO I've ever played with any level of commitment. I'm a console gamer, my idea of a hardcore PC-gaming experience is Riven, and the only MMO of late I'm even slightly interested in is Cabal Online... which we might play together (...briefly).

I have to say I am one of the lucky few. Not only does my girl like to watch, but she plays as well. I love playing games with her, even if it's just her watching. She gives me that second perspective that I don't get while playing alone. Also, she has helped me out on Guitar Hero a few times. As for my encounters with women online, it has only been on WoW, and even then only a two in my guild. One was a flirt with just about everyone. The other was stuck up. Not saying that's how they all are. Just the two I have met in my online adventures.

I don't mean "rare" like the Desert Tortoise or anything. When I say "rare" I'm comparing you to the endless hoards of male gamers. Even more rare are the female gamers who play more than casual games.

The planets don't have to be aligned to find another female playing Call of Duty, but I'll be damned if we run across one more than twice a month.

You might be playing with a chick and not even know it.. I play CoD4 religously, ( I hate CoD5, its just not the same ) but I hardly ever talk, because like so many other people said, you either find the douche bags that hate you for being a girl and destroying them in "their" game or the retards that distract you by hitting on you. I have a boyfriend who likes to play all the games I play, he likes to watch me play CoD, and I make him play CoD just so I can watch him. of course some games he plays ARE boring, like NBA, and Riddick (dumb game), but I dont tell him he cant, I just play a game on the computer.. I would like to think I am not a casual gamer. My gamer score on 360 is 19,550, and I play everything from CoD, Gears 2, Fable 2, Left 4 Dead, Diablo II..ect. I am just saying, just because you dont HEAR whiny little high pitched voices when your playing doesnt mean the top player on the winning team that went 30-4 wasnt a girl. (no offense to other chicks, and no, my voice isnt whiny)

When I've knowingly bumped into female gamers playing MMO's they generally tend to be more skillful than average players, ranging up to elite.

I haven't met many "casual" female gamers that I was aware of--seems like most either play regularly for recreation or not at all, whereas I have met plenty of guys who get online once a weekend or so.

I usually play with relatively older (over 25 or so) gamers, and don't see much of the awkwardness or juvenile antics mentioned above, happily, though some sexist attitudes occasionally appear.

My wife has no interest in playing or trying any games, but doesn't generate any aggro toward me either, since I usually play after the kids are asleep and she's doing something else.
