Haha, this thread was really interesting.
I have met so many desperate-attention-whoring-manipulative-power-hungry-sexist-crazy-bitches playing games that it's disgusting. I have met maybe one or two chicks who were relatively un-obnoxious about being a woman (i play fps games, this is probably the reason behind this).

I read a little bit up that someone said "GAMER GIRLS DONT LIKE TO TALK IN GAME, THERES LOTS OF THEM PLAYING" bleh bleh bleh. I can't speak for all chicks, but when I'm playing a game, I find voice-com essential and will generally use it-- unless I'm playing without any of my friends (i am more likely to get harassed when gaming alone). Personally, the girls I have run into wouldn't shut the fuck up, so I find this point to be lulzy in my experience.

final note on "female gamers":

Some of us play video games just for fun.
We're called gamers, we just happen to have vaginas.

Would you like fries with that?

From my reply you can probably figure out my responses to the questions :p

I love that no matter how many girls post in these threads: I like fps games etc the following comments are always 'girls only play Sims and Animal Crossing' :/

One of the best moments of wow for me was recently standing in org with my top arena gear on waiting for a bg (u had to do alot of arena to get it as its rated (deadly) gear) Some mage goes ' WOW your gear is awesome want to come play rogue mage priest?' Im like sure pal I dont have a 3v3 team! He invites me to ventrillo and the first thing they say when they found out I was a girl was:
Mage: Do you know how to play arena?
Rogue: How long have you played wow?
I mean seriously wut?

There is also a guy I find hot in RL that plays lfd with me I like pouncing on him as a hunter...
what :p

In order: no, yes, occasional brief surprise followed by treating them like everybody else.

other than having breasts, and spitting out babies I'm pretty much male in alot of my tastes and interests ( I believe it's due to a male-dominated upbringing, and being raised to be a chieftain like matriarch) ,,, to be honest I dont know where my gaming preferences fall on the casual/hardcore scale lands as I have my moods for different types at different times.

I don't think I fit most " expectations" as a chick gamer...not that I really pay attention to what those are..

as for this:
Every single female gamer I've come into contact with (bar the odd hot chick who drunkenly tries to sing on rockband) has been nothing short of a barely human atrocity. You know the types that fill their faces with metal then start screaming about individuality and all that balls. The kind that go vegetarian and mince up their arms for a laugh. The real nutters. But I'm guessing that's just me. I can't hold up my experiences as the norm...I really can't.
I have my ears pierced a few times, and....lets call it the "magic button" but that's it, tattoo's are easily hidden " no tramp stamp but I do have a quarter sleeve on one arm, and some knot work...though Im a tactician and not a balls to the wall berserker, I do have my own sense of blood lust. I can take insults and roll them back out. " though using a more erudite, eloquent vocabulary is great for shutting the little kids down,

even better when they wanna get angry and start this " what chick games anyway, you must be so fat and ugly no guy will touch you... then both my kids start voicing up trying to get my attention...to which I normally reply, with a smirk to the would be flamer " you were saying?" they tend to fall quiet, or log off when everyone else starts laying into them.

and my agitated sighs sound almost naughty so its common for the chat channel to go silent for a moment * lol*

that is how my life as a girl who was raised nearly 30 years with games in her life has gone.

I'm here, I'm a female gamer.

I never realized being a female gamer was such a DEAL until I met my boyfriend. When I started a conversation about video games for the first time, he was in awe. I don't know WHY. He says female gamers are like "Holy Grails" in the gaming community, but I dunno. :\

ANYhow, Metrona, I'm glad that you know how to roll out the insults. I'm kinda bad at them and take the verbal beating. (But then again, I'm normally in an almost-full party of friends who lay into the flamers themselves. xD )

I enjoyed playing Okami, GTA IV (mainly because I could jump out of a freaking helicopter into the water below and pretend it's the Ultimate Extreme Helicopter High Dive event at the Olympics), and a few other things. I do encounter female gamers every once in a while, but every time I do...all I hear is either cattiness or screaming if they die. God, the ear-splitting screams. =_= Maybe I'll find a sensible, fellow female gamer.

And, when it comes to speaking over the mic (in reference to emirizilla), I'm glad that my voice is a tad deeper than a normal woman's. Keeps the morons and the sexists at bay.

*shits green nickles at site of epic topic bumpage*

Today was another one of those "Every other asshole on live decides to show up and talk shit at a female voice* days. I don't know if it was the increased alcohol in humanity's system or what. It was bad.

I was so proud of the woman though. She ran the little bastards off and had everyone who wasn't being a douche rolling in the dirt. Good times were had by all.

Also, <3 Okami.

I do that on Saint's row 2....except into traffic and collect vast amounts of cash for it.

A friend of mine's (now ex) boyfriend wouldn't let her game, and when he finally did stuck whatever game it was (I think it was halo 3) on the hardest difficulty so that she'd soon lose interest.
But shes recently fallen in love with games thanks to me, which i am very proud of.

Over the past 2 years i have noticed a huge increase in female gamers. I'm doubtful that its because that more girls now game, but now find it less controversial to admit it.

Personally i still find it a shock to find out a girl games. But its the same kind of shock i get when i find a £5 note in my pockets.

My missus kicks my ass when it comes to SIMS, and loves watching people play Bioshock and even dabbles in a bit of Fable 2. This compared to a previous ex who thought gaming was the devil and I was addicted to it when I didn't want to stop playing to watch America's top fucking model.
I could not stand anyone who disliked games, and liked americas top model...

I know plenty of female gamers... probaly because i'm in a games course, and most the art/muiltimedia students are female... and if they know how to use photoshop... they seem to know how to play games.

If you can't find a female gamer... get out of the damn house. They are everywhere.

Yay, my first post~!
and yes, u can say i joined so i could input =P

I am a girl gamer, and i gotta say, there are more of us out there than u think, just don't look too hard cause most of us aren't that great =__=;;; which, i guess, is the same for a lot of guys XP. I am a die hard FPS player, especially online for the best console ever(=D) the ps3, so if u recognise my ID, that's cause its my ps3 online ID as well, so add me if u wanna~, i used to play with mic and im sorry if i ever annoyed ppl cause i tend to RAGE, lol, especially if im the last one left in hc s&d =__=;;; leave it to the girl u va***a heads. I used to think I was the last of a dying breed of female gamers, but i guess not cause there are ALOT of chicks playing these days, especially aussie ones on coddies, those b***hes tend to be pretty good as well =P. I don't know about you guys, but there is something infinitely satisfying about shanking someone to death on coddies, and I haven't looked back since =D.

PS-almost forgot to mention on of the advantages of being a girl wit mic, guys apologize when they teabag u wen u tell them ur a girl, BAHAHHAA SCORE~!

Don't be fooled by some of us saying we aren't that great--given a little practice (especially at a new game), I can proudly annihilate any of the hardcore gamers I know. Sadly, I just don't have enough time to put in the practice. I've got other things to do, like my doctoral dissertation :-(

FWIW, I'm a girl gamer. I don't really do online gaming, for better or worse. Not entirely sure how that whole scene works. Most of the stuff I play are RPGs, too. I'm not avid, so when I do pick up a game, it's usually after it's been on the market for a good long while.

I have a PS3 and am only just working my way through BioShock. Finished Little Big Planet, and enjoy Guitar Hero - though I suspect I'm probably crap at it.

On the heels of that, can anyone recommend a good PS3 game that makes good use of the online MMO feature? I'd love to meet some fellow gamers - or at least I THINK I'd like to. It sounds like you've got to wade through a lot of douchebaggery to meet the few nice, sensible gamers.

I had the luxury of starting my multiplayer gaming 'career' at LAN parties with woman attending, so I'm not exactly flabbergasted (yay finally used that word!) when I see a lady ingame. Actually, in my UT2k4 clan we have several ladies, who don't mind going on Teamspeak, and just join in on the useless conversation we have there. One of them is actually a mother of a five year old, and she is quite the skilled player I have to say! There are quite a few women in UT2k4, even playing in the higher divisions.

I know their out there it's just nice to finily find some. Its almost like serching for (Insert an item's name that you have ever lost here),you know it's somewhere you just can't find it. When you finally find it you, get so excided that it wasen't stolen or something like that.

i know a few girls one of them is my sister. and yeah shes alright but i cant stand it she got her own gamertag but i notice just cause she a girl she got 20 friend request from playin 6 games...but i have this one friend and she kicks ass and shesasys the same thing happens to her.i wanna know is it the fact that some guys just are that desprate that they have to flirrt online or what. idk?
okay, i'm gonna give it a shot here.. my theory:

i think it's like when you step into a bar, right? it's the same -- pub or xbox live game lobby. you buy a drink (set up your quick match) and the match starts. so you look around for somebody to chat with (you have your mic turned on right? :D), sure enough there's gamertags up there with little microphone symbols, so you walk up to them, say hello (or fart in your microphone if you're a douchebag) and those who say hi back have made a connection.
>Note<: if you fart in your microphone you will either be the subject of a thousand insults from the other players in the lobby, team-killed, and possibly if there WAS a girl amongst them...she may just choose to ignore you. if you're dumb enough to do it AND you're lucky, your mic will not be close enough to your ..ahem.. mouth, the sound will probably just be a distorted unintelligible rustle, or due to the shitty quality of the xbox wireless headset, it might just plainly not pick up your ... voice...

ANYWAY, as a male, presumably you're straight (most of us are) so if there's a female voice it's instantly prominent, it's heterosexual magnetism, simple. AND as a bonus, you think to yourself, it's a girl playing a game!!! (kind of like when you walk up to her to discover she's drinking beer, for the sake of continuing the pub metaphor). A chick drinking beer, a chick playing a game on xbox-live/PS Network etc.. you find this is your common ground, so you focus your attention. if she's good at holding her liquor (in other words if she kicks ass at the game), then this is a really, really awesome experience for the male gamer. i think usually girls who play games have awesome personalities as well, so you're more likely to make friends there too..

*friend request sent*

i hope that explained it. it's nearly 2 am. if anybody feels free to correct my fatigued, jumbled hard drive >dammit, BRAIN< feel free to.. yeah.. zzzzzzzzzzzzz

lol now you've said that, a million nice sensible gamers are going to pop up on this thread and s.w.a.m.p. you with professions of their goodness

one question though.. what's an online MMO feature? God, i've been playing games online for about 7 years and i don't know what that is. is that anything like PS3-Home?
