YEAH, I am a girl and play video games. I've gamed for about 18 years. I absolutely hate it when I'm at someones house, and a bunch of guys are crowded around the tv, playing 360 or Playstation...and they offer me to play, and when they see that I actually know how to play they act like they've just seen Jesus. Seriously. They'll say "Man, she's pretty good!" almost incredulously like they can't believe it. I'm thinking inside my head, it's not rocket science, you simpletons! I'm pushing buttons, although sometimes simultaneously. wow. Maybe I don't look like the type of girl who would play videogames. Maybe they think I'm too old for it (22) and it's weird that I play.
Yeah, that kind of irritates me but I don't let it show. I would consider myself a closet gamer. I don't really use video games as a converation topic unless I'm asked if I play. I play a lot by myself but not with people. Mostly because I am a girl and don't have any girlfriends who enjoy videogames like I do. Also, it seems when I try to play with guys (even on my own consoles) they seem to hog it. Like they think it's a men's right to have control over the videogames. Again I do not let this bother me.
So that is why I usually play alone, because I hang out with a bunch of male chauvanists who think they own even my videogames. Several of them are cool, they will treat me as an equal but it just really irks me that a lot of men think videogames are predominately a mans thing.
