Female gamers

Every single female gamer I've come into contact with (bar the odd hot chick who drunkenly tries to sing on rockband) has been nothing short of a barely human atrocity. You know the types that fill their faces with metal then start screaming about individuality and all that balls. The kind that go vegetarian and mince up their arms for a laugh. The real nutters. But I'm guessing that's just me. I can't hold up my experiences as the norm...I really can't.

Blimey InsanityBaron...you need to stop hanging out at wherever you're hanging out to meet people. They all sound nutty.

*saw thread, is a girl gamer, raises hand and calls out "present", leaves thread*

I love owning my boyfriend at Gears, and I would own him in most games, except MGS, 1. because it is single player, but he would be better as he is a MGS fanboy. I am trying to understand the series myself for him, and though I am not particularly familliar, he likes that I know as much as I do where he can talk to me about it witohut completly losing me.

I wish my girlfriend would play games, make co op achievements so much easier.

Because none of my girlfriends played video games I developed the uncanny ability to play up to 4 controllers at once. I did beat little big planet with all four controllers faster than 4 of my friends could.

Also when I do invite one of the bros over to help with co op usually it ends up in with fistacuffs aka fist fighting.

Example from last nights left 4 dead:
Me:You just shot me in the face!!!!!
Him: It was Zoey! The AI killed you.
Me: Zoe is dead!
Him:*looks around the screen for zoe*
Me:*perfectly times a kick to the shin and a shotgun butt to the face*

EDIT: I just remembered that my sister is a beast at Guitar Hero. But give her a copy of a shooter and then I just have to go back to my skill of playing 2 controllers.

Oh god... I remember when I first met her. She was all excited to play against me on Smash Bros Melee. I though "Damn. I'm such a badass at this game, I'm going to have to go easy on her."... HA! It was a slaughter... I had my ass handed to me so many times I nearly cried. This is when I completely shot down the part of my brain that thought that females were different when it came to gaming.
Yeah when I first got my sister to play Perfect Dark with me I thought I'd have to babysit her the whole time, and I did for a while, but she learned quick. It's great fun now to watch her and my cousins kick their boyfriends' asses.

Also, it's interesting how girl gamers will approach a game a bit differently from guy gamers.

YEAH, I am a girl and play video games. I've gamed for about 18 years. I absolutely hate it when I'm at someones house, and a bunch of guys are crowded around the tv, playing 360 or Playstation...and they offer me to play, and when they see that I actually know how to play they act like they've just seen Jesus. Seriously. They'll say "Man, she's pretty good!" almost incredulously like they can't believe it. I'm thinking inside my head, it's not rocket science, you simpletons! I'm pushing buttons, although sometimes simultaneously. wow. Maybe I don't look like the type of girl who would play videogames. Maybe they think I'm too old for it (22) and it's weird that I play.

Yeah, that kind of irritates me but I don't let it show. I would consider myself a closet gamer. I don't really use video games as a converation topic unless I'm asked if I play. I play a lot by myself but not with people. Mostly because I am a girl and don't have any girlfriends who enjoy videogames like I do. Also, it seems when I try to play with guys (even on my own consoles) they seem to hog it. Like they think it's a men's right to have control over the videogames. Again I do not let this bother me.

So that is why I usually play alone, because I hang out with a bunch of male chauvanists who think they own even my videogames. Several of them are cool, they will treat me as an equal but it just really irks me that a lot of men think videogames are predominately a mans thing.

All the more reason to "come out of the closet" (for lack of a better way of putting it). If females keep getting intimidated by men (or in most cases, boys) who don't know how to react to women playing games, the cycle is just going to keep repeating and nobody is going to get anywhere. When you run across a confused or shocked male, don't ignore it. Make fun of the poor sap and tell him that he needs to get out more! Women need to quit hiding and make themselves known. If that means that they're going to have to deal with a few assholes, then so be it. It took women decades (centuries even if you want to get technical) to get the right to do something as pointless as voting. If you want equal rights something as important as video games go, you can't just sit around and wait for it to magically happen.

Also, yes. I did use the search bar. Did you?

I have known girls that play games. Some of them played games I enjoy, some did not. A select few of them were actually good at the games I enjoy, most were not. These days I no longer am in common contact with any women who play video games. I have run across them "in game" and my reaction is usually a complete lack of reaction. They get treated the same as everyone else - if they annoy me, they get muted, if they say something I need to respond to I do, and most of the time I just sit there, shut up and gun people down.

Rock Band, Guitar Hero = Casual gaming
Being insanely good at it's different, as well as the FPS

btw I think the eponymous crowd it getting a little tired of these threads.
The one's who got 'em can't stop bragging and showing 'em off
While the rest can only wonder and speculate as to what they're really like in person

I'm a gamer girl too and I like the occassional wii/ds game but ps3 is my thing. I'm more hard core (drools at god of war 3 trailer) than a bunch senseless barbie games. You know come to think of it, there isn't a single girl in my school that has touched a next gen console. *sigh* Oh well, back to saints row 2 :D

Pah... the "eponymous crowd" is tired of every thread that they themselves don't make. A lot of them anyway. Most of them seem to realize that not everybody wants to bump a thread that died 8 months ago just to avoid the occasional "OMG THIS HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE!".

As for Rock Band and Guitar Hero being casual, I agree for the most part, but there is a line you cross somewhere between "hard" and "gets 5 stars on every expert song" that blows casual out of the water and make some "hard core" gamers become incontinent.

For the record... I am definitely not a hardcore Rock Band/Guitar Hero gamer.

Haha, that'd be true, setting yourself up as an idol of wonder, rather than passively becoming some subject to gawk at.

Yes...I've heard legends regarding the mastery of that Dragonforce song "Through the Fire and The Flames"...
Admittedly, the labelling does get a little tiresome after a while.

Yeah, but the question is are you... female?
