Br proud, but be careful as well. If other nerds see her being awsome at games, they will go nuts for her. My girlfriend plays halo alot and constanly gets friend request when she puts on the headset.

Lots of women like video games. In fact I can't even count on one hand the girls I know who DONT play video games sometimes. Its a normal thing. I dont see why its so hard for people to grasp.

But specifically the hardcore gamer girls, who play all kinds of video games and are as 'addicted' to them as guys can get are much rarer. Usually girls are more casual players. I have never known a serious gamer girl outside of the internet. But to be honest, games arent something that come up in conversation a lot for me, so maybe I do know some.

They're quite rare on Xbox Live, but I did kick some ass with this one girl. We owned up a team double our size in Gears of War. Good times.
We're not rare on Live. We're quiet. Because one of three things happens.

1. We are mistaken for a prepubescent boy.
2. We are singled out for being a girl and hunted until we quit.
3. We are harassed/ogled over by at least one team member.

And yes, this is an exaggeration. But I know me and most of my friends DO keep our headsets off unless playing with friends to avoid above situations.

I dunno... Doesn't seem like much of an exaggeration to me. That pretty much sums up most of the games the wife plays when we're not playing with friends. Fortunately, she's been doing it long enough that she knows how to handle it. It does me heart good when some little trash talker shows up and she manages to shut him up or run him off.

It's a shame that you feel that you have to stay hidden. Kind of letting the douchebags win though, isn't it?

I have a group of Left 4 Dead friends I play with a lot.

The funny thing is, there's three guys and 1 girl in the group. (Sound familiar?)

I usually mistake girls' voices online for prepubescent boys' voices, and feel like a dumbass when I find out they're not.

I never hit on girls in Playstation Home. For one thing they don't want to talk to me much, and frankly I'm not into long distance relationships. And another thing, sometimes you should leave girls alone if they tell you to go away. I'm not going to go all Kaorin (that's the anime character in my DP) over some girl who's not even interested in me in that way. Or in any way.

Look, I've been hurt before, OK? Female gamers can exist, but mean female gamers can exist too.

My wife enjoys them occasionally, but she doesn't get into them as much as I do and she has a fear of interacting with people in online games. She loved World of Warcraft, played through Morrowind, she loved KotOR, and I had to fight with her to play Mass Effect (I knew she would like it, but it took a few weeks to get her to sit down and really play it - then she couldn't stop). I recently picked up Braid, and she is loving that one.

It's always a fight to get her to try a game; especially when I think it is one she will like and she thinks it just looks "too complicated". With Mass Effect or even some stuff in Morrowind when I first taught her how to play it she would get easily frustrated. She would say "I can't remember that" or "I don't know how to do that" when I told her about various things. The funny thing is she wants to know how to do something, but she hates it when I tell her HOW to do something... Or if I want to show her a better or faster way of doing something. It's best when I get her addicted to one and then just back off and let her play the heck out of it.

She's not really into achievements, but she's very excited when she gets one; and mad when I get one and she doesn't. I don't know, it's just kind of weird with her and I feel like I have to basically force her to play. With Mass Effect, I was like "Just play it for 5 hours, then if you want to, quit..." Of course, she couldn't after she got to a certain point. I just don't understand her when it comes to games.

That's pretty much how the online frontier is. With guys running into douchebags, it'll inevitably turn into a "who's the louder douchebag" contest, or the douchebag'll be outnumbered and banned/made to shut up. It's tougher for solo girls because they're already outnumbered goin in, and it'll probably turn into a fight or flight situation, depending on the individual girl.

And that's just for the douchebags. Nevermind the boys who think they'll score by handing out to/hitting on them. I can't imagine going through that kind of awkwardness over and over in voice chat.
