Hmrf.
I know few wimmin folk into games, and each falls into some gross stereotype I want to pretend doesn't exist but keep getting thrown in my face.
Some of them have lost their sould to WoW, most are "casual" (ugh) gamers in the flesh. Plays sims, no stomach for challenges or material/ideas that make them think or question anything.
*sigh*

My sister creams me in most racing games and DOA4 + DOA3. But when it comes to FPS games, I'm a GOD. Of course im a very complicated gamer.

I'm doing an experiment for science to try and figure out wether females or males are more skilled at video games. I'm gonna expect changes in results depending on the game.

I will post a thread soon about it so be on the lookout.

My best friend's sister plays this. Only fighter she plays, I believe. Not that good at it, but I'm king of the roost in fighters in my circle.

~rolls eyes and sighs at this topic~

don't you think its bad enough that were put in to a group like this...and everyone is bitching about wanting to treated like male gamers.if you ***** and piss and moan you give women a bad name..i mean for Christ sake most women are either bitching about not being treated normally in games or bitching about how female characters dress or boob size...

i maybe old fashioned i guess..but why cant people just play games and get on with it.

i do get the odd hassle when i play halo but meh i just deal with it.also get a few assholes on team fortress

Funny how many people consider rythm games as "hardcore". You aren't using more then 5 buttons and neither do you use them with any intelligent thought other then memorising the preset pattern.

No... I'm not one, but my wife is. And not just with casual games. She is a badass at games like Rockband, Guitar Hero, and Call of Duty.

Better than me at the the first two. As good as me and still improving with the second. I'm not sure if I should hang my head in shame or lift it with pride.

Are you one of these rare individuals? If not, do you know one? And lastly, what is your reaction to them when you run across them while playing online?
Me well i'm always kinda shocked to find a hardcore Female gamer because it's just well

hhmmm

unnatural is the best word that seems to fit

but they don't make me feel awkward or anything even when there better then me

after all i'm a gamer and as a gamer you should enjoy the game :)

I know three. Two are massive Nintendo fans. By which I mean Smash Bros., Zelda, Fire Emblem, EarthBound, Pokemon, Mario etc.

The third one plays Counterstrike. I believe the term is "'nuff said".

I'd like to find a girl player that's good at, and likes, fighting games like SF or capcom vs. SNK 2. I know some girl players, but they only play games like animal crossing and the sims.

Dude walk with pride... your wife is into games which is something many guys can only wish for. Not only that but she sounds like she rocks at them which is even better!

My missus kicks my ass when it comes to SIMS, and loves watching people play Bioshock and even dabbles in a bit of Fable 2. This compared to a previous ex who thought gaming was the devil and I was addicted to it when I didn't want to stop playing to watch America's top fucking model.
Dude! For me it was "Trading Spaces" on fucking TLC. I don't want to stop playing final fantasy x so I can watch to idiot family's trade places and destroy each other's homes and I'm the one with the problem?

All decorating shows should die.

My ex refused to let me play RE4 one sunday because she wanted to watch "dirty dancin, time of your life", then "American Idol" was on... after that she wanted to watch "strictly come dancing" and about 3 minutes after that finished it was "dancing on ice".

*****.

Hahaha I've had to watch my (un)fair share of those... the one where they chopm up the couples' stuff and build things out of the bits and pieces of eachother's shit... it's sickening!

Wierd thing is I'll always watch my current missus's guilty pleasure tv shows with her happily because she chats happily away to me while I'm playing Fallout 3 :)

Gamers are gamers, I've never given any thought to the gender of the person i'm playing against. Theres this woman who always beats me at Bankshot Billiards 2 on Live. I really want to beat her because she's better than me. But losing to a woman doesn't feel different. Skill is the only relevant division in gaming (for me anyway).

I really dislike that mentality. Sure, there are a lot of casual female gamers, but there are a lot of casual gaming guys, and they wind up making the biggest number of gamers in the world.
Its when people say, "I wanna find a chick who could kick my ass at Halo," or the same thing about fighting or action games that makes me feel sad.
I'm only mediocre at pvp games because I don't like to compete. And I don't spend hours everyday gaming, so I don't have superhuman prowess at any game.

However, I consider myself in every respect a gamer. I play games, I love the culture... What more is there to it?

"My ex refused to let me play RE4 one sunday..." just says enough.
If you have different intrests from your girl, and you suffer so damn much, don't date her in the first place. If you can't find someone who shares your intrests, find someone with which you can make a compromise.
Anyway, what's wrong with decorating shows? I mean, wouldn't you want your girlfriend to know how to dress well and how to decorate homes? Of course, those shows teach you what not to do as much as what to do through example.
But because I like to watch some of those things, I'm a *****?
(And great, the qoute button is brick'd...)

I don't know any, but there is some hope. In class this morning, some female's ringtone went off, playing the theme song from Chrono Trigger.

That said, whether or not a female plays games doesn't really matter to me, if said female is not an intelligent, sound-minded, enjoyable person. I still don't think I've found any of those. What I really despise is that it has become popular for some females to become attention-seekers simply because of their hobbies - they know that they'll have a bunch of lonely nerds lusting after them whenever they enter the room, and they take advantage of it. It's rather sickening and ridiculously arrogant. The intersection between femininity and gamer culture - that "girl gamers" nonsense - is complete shit and should be wiped from the face of the planet. I've never respected anybody simply for looks or gender or sexuality or race or anything, and neither have I disrespected them. If anything, it makes me disrespect you immensely if you exploit those social realities for your benefit, because you demean yourself in doing so.

World of Her PWN centers around a girl gamer and let me tell you, Samantha is not just playing a part. The girl is the real deal, and really knows her stuff. But with that said, the show doesn't attempt to portray her as this mythical exotic being. She's just an average Jane who's passionate about something and has a little trouble concentrating on real life sometimes.

I also wouldn't call them rare. You maybe just don't know about them. Especially with certain online games and even forums like this one. You can't tell a person's sex just by looking at their sn or their icon. So unless you go into their profile I think people just automatically assume it's a guy they're playing with.

So yeah they exist, yeah they come in all shapes and sizes, and yeah their skills vary.

But dude, you should be proud! You and your wife have a common interest and something that you can share together. More power to you! Just learn how to lose gracefully ;-)
