Female gamers

I've been playing games since I could first comprehend them. And I'm female. I just hate those people saying that I know knowing about games since I am a girl. I may not like fps (I get too nervous) but I'm good at other genres, mainly rpgs and mmorpgs.

All I can really add to this is what I say in other threads like this: Why care about gender? I'm a guy, and I do not take offense if I am beaten by a female gamer. All that shows is that they were better than I was. I am never going to understand why people bother with caring about a gamer's gender.

I've been gaming since the 80's. I used to work for a game developer. I can run rings around anybody on Goldeneye on N64 and will kick your arse at Guitar Hero and I take pride in that. Actually, I don't think I know a single girl who ISN'T a gamer.

Some people can be jerks about it, usually the guys in game stores - if they aren't condescending and try and sell you some wanky DS game involving horses or dogs and Barbie then they're hitting on you because you've accidentally displayed some knowledge and are suddenly deemed awesome.
