I'd wish for it to be realistic and historically accurate. If you really want to be unrealistic do so in a way like Samurai Champloo or Kill Bill, aka exotic weapons and inhuman skill rather than magic.

Oh hell yes! My favourite game of all time would be if Bethesda and Bioware combined forces to make Jade Empire 2 an open world rpg - and yes, I know Jade Empire was more Chinese than Japanese and not historically accurate, but it is supposed to be a fantasy game no?

I second this motion. All in favor?
Aye!

It's one of my fantasies to have an open world game set in the far east. RPG or just an action adventure game. The closest thing to that will be that new free to play MMO (Age of Wulin) set in medieval China.

If anyone here still owns a PS2, you might want to check "Shinobido: The way of ninja". It's not a free roaming game, but you can do a lot of awesome things, and levels are kind of open-ended, and you can leave them when you so choose.

Oh, don't get me wrong, I love me some ninjas. But I want one with all the trappings of an AC game (swordfighting, Free Running, animus stuff, Assassins vs. Templars, etc.)

This. I've been waiting for an AC game to be set in Feudal Japan since the first one hinted at it in some of the secret text at the end.

The thing is, while it's an era everyone knows and that has been featured in games a tonne, it's still never truly been done justice in the west in a truly 3D world. Shogun 2 was a fantastic game that really captured the dramatic and violent world of the feudal era, but it's never received the amazing treatment that Constantinople or Acre have been given by Ubisoft.

The really strange part is that it makes perfect sense to set an AC game there. There's tonnes of mythology surrounding the era and it's mystified all the time, allowing the developer to really get in there and create their own story and play around with the more fantastic elements of the game. Even with the supernatural taken aside, the time was full of political intrigue and hidden violence, with different warring factions pitting themselves against each other in the shadows just as often as on the battlefield. All of them want one thing and they'll take it however they can. Ubi are free to align the main character with any of these factions, or make up their own, or even set the protagonist as a free agent

That's before we even get into the world and the benefits of rendering it faithfully in the now-trademark style of AC. Japan is an incredibly varied and beautiful country, and to see an Ubisoft-rendering of the buddhist temples precariously sitting atop mountains, the huge castles and sprawling, quaint towns surrounding them with something to see around every corner, to the junk armadas sitting on the coast decked out with important targets.

I mean, just imagine being tasked with the assassination of someone residing in Himeji Castle.

That would be awesome.

I loved what Bioware did with the cheesy epic Chinese martial arts format in Jade Empire. Would love a western style RPG set in a world based round Japanese cinema (e.g Kurasawa, Beat Takeshi). Don't really want the OPEN WORLD thing, would be happier with a tighter multiple destination location set up ala Baldurs Gate or Dragon Age: Origins.

Personally I think it would be better if the cut out the animus BS and made the combat better. Combat in AC games consists entirely of blocking then counter attacking. It gets boring after the first 20 minutes. Although I do admit that AC have their fun, combat is not one of those areas. Something like a combination of Ninja Gaiden, Tenchu and AC strikes me as a good idea. Something with a lot of political intrigue.

open world feudal japan rpg... ya I can get behind that.

I really enjoyed the dynasty warriors with the warring states aspect that was thrown in, I would love to play as a Musashi esq figure trying to make a name for himself just for the army he joined to lose forcing him to flee for your life.

A: Hell yeah. Bring it.
Guard: Stop! You have violated the laws of Bushido!

I agree. The Japanese style architecture is only really fun if you can climb on it and Assassin's Creed is very good at that. RPGs set in Japanese or Japanese-like areas such as Eollas in Two Worlds 2 often seem uninteresting, not to mention that a very action oriented first person game with gameplay like Skyrim wouldn't fit as well with ninjas and such. The stealth feature isn't prominent enough. Assassin's Creed would fit the theme of Feudal Japan perfectly.

that would be my last wish to be fulfilled
a real open world WRPG set in feudal japan
so many unexplored gameplay possibilities

generally more western games should take place in japan
it's scenic in nature and astonishing in urban landscapes
so TES, AC, GTA and DX need japan versions

Yes, I would be extremely interested in it, but I do not think that the Skyrim-style completely open gameplay would work out.
If the team developing the game would have some actual knowledge about the customs, happenings and way of life in Feudal Japan it could turn out to be extremely interesting.
