Riddle me this Escapists...

Ok, it's not a riddle but here's something that's been bugging me. Why is it that this love of FFVII and the desire for a remake keeps rolling even in the wake of some extraordinary fan service from Square? (Despite some stinking turds such as FFXIII)

No-one ever seems to be have any love for Dissidia. I mean, come on, you can beat up Tidus. That's gotta be worth playing.

So, my question is. How many people have actually played it, and what did you think of it?

I played it, found the story to be pretty crummy, the game itself to be repetitive and unimaginative and over all, it would have been a better release on a console and/or pc instead of a frigging hand held.

Seriously, who wants to play a fighting game one player most of the time? Consoles are good for those kinds of games so you can play people without any lag, as the slightest lag ruins a fighting game.

I hate Terra spamming Tornado, I loved closing in the gap with my OK and just turbo hit to guiding swipe.

You can Ad-Hoc or hook up to your PS3 (Ad-Hoc party) to play online.
I don't have a PS3, and that still doesn't make it two player for me and my flat mate to go at it without having another PSP and the game as well, which is pretty silly for a fighting game.

Never played Disswhatever, but I do love FFVII so very much. I feel it was the best of the series, though I'm not as crazy for a remake as some - I'd just like it re-released so I can play it again as it was. Maybe available for download from XBL and Home? That'd be awesome.

Dissidia is easily one of the top games on my PSP, and one of my favorite games in general. I really wish other people would make games in the same style of gameplay, it's a really fun way of doing things. I've already managed to master each character, and I'm working on getting all the ultimate weapons for each.

Actually, Tidus is one of my best characters >.>

Try the DBZ: Budokai games. Very similar style.
I tried those, they weren't really all that similar to me. The only game I've played that actually was noticeably similar to Dissidia was Virtual On, back in the arcades.

I love Dissidia. I choose it as my Game of the Year 2009.

Currently maining Zidane, Sub Shantotto and levelling Warrior of Light and Cecil for some variation.

Have to say, Terra is amazingly strong if you use her well. Sephiroth seems to be strangely very powerful in the game which is annoying when facing a level 130 AI of him. Same goes for Tidus. Everyone says they get to beat him up but he is a surprisingly powerful character.

I currently have clocked 2577 Battles. I have lost to Shantotto and Exdeath twice, Ultimecia, Emperor and Garland three times. Which is surprising as I find Shanty the 2nd best character in the game.

I have to say that ExDEATH, Ultimecia, Emperor, Squall, Tidus, Bartz and Onion Knight are some of my least favourite character to play.

I liked both games, FFVII for the RPG fan in me and Dissidia for when I need to kill time but can't get involved in something too in-depth like a doctor's office or long car ride (only problem with that is screaming "DAMMIT TERRA!" when she spams Tornado >>)

But as far as Dissidia goes, while the story is rather repetitive, it's opened my eyes to the older FF games (pre 7) that I wasn't all-too familiar with. I actually went and got myself a good FFV ROM to try the game out after playing Dissidia. It's a fighting game. You can't expect a good story. That's like expecting Street Fighter to have a story. I had to give them kudos for putting in a story at all because they could have remade it like Ehrgeiz and just been like "BEAT EACH OTHER UP! HAVE FUN!."

It's why I tend not to spam Tornado too often. Besides, it leaves you open if you miss.

I'd rather open with Meteor, then go into Holy Combo.
If in Trance, Meteor, Graviga then Holy COmbo is really effective.

Graviga then Flood or Meteor then Flood can also be useful.

I reserve Tornado for corners or as a "keep away" move for those who stray too close.
Tornado? Heh...wait till you get Meltdown...a whole new world of pain opens up with it.

those are both some of my favorite games, the fighting style and gameplay for dissidia is amazing, i'd rather play that 100 times over than any other fighting game, just think what they could do if they moved that to the ps3 instead of hte psp...

the story really isn't that bad for mashing together like 12 games into one..

and ff7 will always be one of my favorite games from childhood, beat it twice when i was 8 and 9 years ol (didn't have too many games back then)

dissidia is definitly my favorite game for hte psp and was one of my favorite games of 2009

Dude, it's been out on PSN for about a year...

As for Dissidia, I have to admit I've never played it, although from the looks of it it's not really comparable to the other games. It could certainly never have as much charm as FFVII.

Really? Cool!

I'm an Xbox man personally, but I've recently moved into a flat with a friend who owns a PS3. We don't have the internet at home yet, but as soon as we do I'll try and grab it. Do you happen to know how much it costs?

I do believe it cost me about £7. You can play it on both PS3 and PSP as well, which is a nice feature.
