I was actually pissed about two deaths, both in the same game. Mind you that I came from gory-death-shooting-action-fun, so I had nearly no experience in good drama in gaming.
Crisis Core when:
Genesis bites it. Twice! First time I was "Huh. Well, too bad." Second time I was really pissed, 'cause the guy actually cured his cancer. Then he stands before the goddess (Who is acutally just a spirit, but what the hell, he belives it.) and dies AGAIN! I'm no fan of the FFVII series, but Genesis was a favourite character of mine.
and:
When Zack dies. One of the missions has you facing a THOUSAND SOLDIERS and I went through that with ease. Then this army comes by and shoots you in the face. I hated that, a lot. And to rub it some more, Cloud gets all the glory of the death, taking the sword with him and leaving the body of the guy who dragged him 'cross country and saved him from a life of experiments and addiction. That really pissed me off. I hit new game after that and kicked arse with Zack.
I don't want to sound like a fanboy, both those deaths really created a solid ending for the characters, but I just got a little pissed when those died.
Edit: I forgot literature.
Hedwig made me go "What the hell?" Although it was a good way of 'shedding Harry's youth' as Rowling put it. For that matter, Dumbledore was quite the WTH as well.
The main antagonist. I think his name was Jagagan, or something. That was an intentionally quick death, but too quick for my taste. At least Nicci should have gotten a bit of vengance.
When Mara's first born died, crushed by a horse that was poisoned via a dart from an assassin tasked with the assassination of Mara. That was a real heartbreaker. Quite the surprise as well
Brom dying to save him. That pissed me off when it happened and then pissed me off more when it tells you in the 3rd book that hes his dad, but he never had the chance to tell Eragon himself.
Ok, I have a 'curse' where characters I like are almost certainly going to die... but the one that really stands out to me...
Watched angelic Layer, loved it, fell in love with one of the characters. I learn that 'Chobits' was set in the same universe (not a direct sequel, but definitely the same setting advanced a few years)and was surprised to find out my favorite character was in it...so I looked it up, only to find
She's a supporting characters Dead Older Sister... She's killed off before it even starts to give a character tragic backstory... and the character isn't even in or mentioned in Angelic Layer!
It REALLY upset me. I didn't think they would do something so cheap to a character who had had a 'happy ending' in her own show
I'm not sure how to do the spoiler thing, but here goes.
Both of them are from Fallout:
James (Dad), and Initiate Reddin (It was like David and Goliath, only David didn't have his slingshot. And he was a she. And he was caught unaware. And he died.)
Everything is a spoiler, I don't know how to put spoiler tags though.
Romin dying in GTA. Gaz and Captain Mustache in CoD 4. Boromir dying in LOTR, but he took that arrow like a man. Obi-Wan dying in Star Wars. It could have at least been a bit more epic.
Hedwig-- what the Hell.
Mad-eye Moody-- He was just plain cool-- and he dies three seconds after Hedwig bites it.
Professor Lupin, Tonks, and that other bloke-- Do I really need to explain?
Professer Snape-- ah, here's a character we all know and-- nope.
George Weasly.
Those were all pure bulls**t.
Also, I'd like to give honorable mention to Starkiller in TFU-- and if you didn't see that coming, you probably need help dressing yourself.
Trish in inFamous. First, she didn't get a whole lot of screen time and I felt she could have been a very well developed character. Second, you got screwed over no matter what you did. Once I finished that, I punched a wall in anger.
