Ending D. Nier's not just death, but complete erasure of his very existence and everyone's memories of him, to the point that Kaine starts crying when she see's the flower he gave her, but she can't figure out why because he's already gone from her memory. Also, just to rub it in, Nier's daughter, who Nier lives every waking moment for trying to protect and then save, has forgotton him just as quickly.

Xion's death, which made me tear up something awful. 'Who will I have ice cream with now?' is much sadder when you remember that Roxas' definition of the word 'friend' is person you have ice cream with, and then to forget her... Damn.

Also an incredibly depressing movie called Third Star.

The main character has crippling terminal bone cancer, and he goes on last chance to have fun camping trip with all of his close friends to his favorite place in the world, which is a lake. Turns out his actual plan was to purposefully drown so that he wouldn't have to deal with the pain and medication of his final days with terminal cancer. He eventually does, dying underwater in the lake with his best friend holding him. I cried for approximately forever.

The Darkness

This one scene where Jenny dies? After seeing this scene, no game has ever come so close to being so emotionally impacting (Except maybe some certain moments in ME3). It also proves that perfect voice acting goes a thousand times further than just great writing.

It was...amazing.

Yeah, agreed. The Darkness is pretty underrated. It has a surprisingly powerful narrative.

I think its a 3-way tie between Dumbledore's death in HP6, what happens near the end of Bridge to Terabithia, and Phantasy Star Universe. All three made me tear up, but with PSU and Terabithia, I just didn't want to go on playing/watching; I was that saddened =/

Jenny Calendar was killed by Angelus, and a HUGE effect on me when Joyce Summers died. Although Buffy's reaction to the second hit me harder than the death itself.

I know it's been said to the point of being annoying, but Joss Whedon really f*cking knows how to write a character death that stings.

Joyce in particular, that episode has got to be the most uncomfortable 40 minutes I've ever watched on TV. It's the weird kind of shakeup you get from watching a show about a superhuman girl constantly putting her own and her loved ones' lives in danger fighting demons and undead, only to have her mother die from post-surgery complications. Here's a show about all these supposedly scary supernatural monsters, and yet the most terrifying thing in the entire show is something that can, and does happen to people in real life. That's unnerving in a very special way :-S

John got shot to hell by the army after all he went through. I always make sure to use the 1911 in the final duel with Jack & Ross because of that. Shot by the own gun he gave John. Choke on that, *****.

The Joker in

Batman Return of the Joker. It was crushing when Tim Drake was pushed to the point of desperation that he had to shoot and kill the Joker because it meant the complete dissolution of that group. It was innocence lost forever. No more Robin, Batgirl, and Batman fighting for a good cause. It crossed the line because Joker forced them to. In his death, he "won" in a way and destroyed a young boy's life. I wept for a little bit.
