The Princess Bride.... oh for the love of all that is holy, NEVER remake the Princess Bride.

You can't top perfection.
My name is Inigo Montaya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
Greatest line in cinema history? I dunno, but the most memorable.

Not that they're likely, but the Lord of the Rings movies. They were the best 'epic fantasy' movies and translated better than you could hope for from the books. And don't go making the Hobbit, either! That was a fine book and had a different style to the LotR which wouldn't really work as a homage to the other movies.

A Clockwork Orange - No one can play Alex like Malcolm McDowell. NO ONE!

Any horror movie. Seriously, I've had enough of the remakes! It's bad enough the holy trinity (Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Halloween) was desecrated! What more will they destroy?

Akira - That movie can only be presented as an animated flick. Why do they feel the need to make a live-action adaptation?

There have been some good movies that are remakes:

Scarface
The Maltese Falcon
The Thing
The Departed
Oceans 11

On the other hand, I don't think any of these were great movies originally. I can't think of a single great movie that needs remaking.

Someone however should take all Alfred Hitchcock movies and remove the damn stupid fast forward scenes, they look damn ridiculous nowadays.

Any classic film. All these directors should be trying to find other interesting story's and make a great adaption to those, not a remake of something that's already bloody perfect.

Most movies that i like actually.

But to name a few:

Oldboy - Thank god the Remake does not seem to move forward. It just wouldn't work.

Back to the Future - often speculated to be remade, but seriously, the movie holds up incredibly well. Especially since "1985 - The Present" has since elegantly changed into "1985 - The somewhat naive version of small town eighties", making especially the first one a Nostalgia Overkill.

Leon/The Professional - something tells me it might happen, it better not

But actually there is one remake i'm looking forward to: Red Dawn.
Americans who regard that one as a cult movie and have grown up may disagree, but i only saw the film recently, and it was a mess of bad action scenes and general lack of a clear direction. But i really like the concept (Middle class teenagers have to become hardened guerilla-like rebels and realize that the life of a so called "Hero" isn't really pretty at all)

The Third Man, now that would be sacrilege. I don't want to see an English language version of Black Cat White Cat (no problem there), Stalker (Well it did happen with Solaris) or any of the Nightwatch trilogy.

Well there have been three versions of Casino Royale, an American TV version, an 'unofficial' film version then most recently an 'official' film version. I think both the first and third versions are worth watching. I take your point though, in my opinion the Bond films either have a charm which couldn't be replicated (Goldfinger, Diamonds are Forever) or are just dire and should be forgotten (Goldeneye (i think) great game, film was a long boring advert for phones and cars with a plot tacked on).
Well it appears we've met an impasse, I both thought the old unofficial Casino Royale with David Niven was great and I believe Goldeneye is one of the best James Bond films ever made.

I don't care that it only came out 3 years ago, and I don't care if it's already an American film, if they remake Snow Angels, I will be some upset.

A remake of First blood would suck, but in general, I'm not fan of remakes, didn't enjoy V and Nightmare on Elm Street.
I admit that I enjoyed Thirteen Ghost and Time Machine remakes though, except for little differences, they were quite good.

Different strokes for different folks I suppose. Personally the Bond films made during my 'cinema viewing lifetime' with a reliance on technology didn't really appeal. Probably why I feel the most recent Casino Royale to be the third best Bond film I have seen (after Goldfinger and Diamonds are Forever).

I can't think of anything to add... maybe just Guy Ritchie films (Lock Stock 'n Two Smoking Barrels would not work in New York)
The remake of 'Get Carter' being a case in point. The original to my mind being the greatest British (and possibly overall) gangster/revenge film ever made. The Stallone remake on the other hand is one of the worst films ever made.
