Wooow. Let me start from the beginning of that post.

First off, I posted in the thread because, well, THAT'S THE WHOLE POINT OF A THREAD. You post in it. And that's what i did. I may not have gone into extravagant detail, but I did divulge my overall feelings on the mediocre, but still playable Final Fantasy 7. However, as someone else above me said

What i mean is there's a fuck load of FF threads and it's pissing me off somewhat.
The reason I posted what I posted is because the OP should know that these overused FF7 threads are getting very old, and all I wanted to do was point that out. Given I could've worded it better, but my point still stands. I don't PM someone first, I post in their thread, telling them my honest opinion about the situation.

(regarding to your PM) No, I didn't feel like I was bashing the OP for making a Final Fantasy thread. He should've honestly used the search bar. Considering the amount of server space Final Fantasy 7 occupies, there's no excuse for not using it.

Again, I have a hard time figuring out why you're singling me out when you claim that a hundred other people have said the same thing. I don't know if you have a personal vendetta against me or something, but please take it to the PM instead of trying to drag it out into public.

Oh, and to answer another of your questions, I only made two or so threads here, and they weren't really too big (Gradius thread and one about pennies). So I didn't care much if people ignored them or told me I copied or whatever excuse they wanted to say. I posted what I did and people responded. Even if they disagreed, I was glad to hear their side or whatever wisdom they had to offer.

But I fear I'm getting off topic. If you wanna ask me anything else, take it to PM plz. :)

The only reason you got "singled out" is simply due to your second post in this thread. Calling someone elses thread unoriginal (who btw never claimed they were being original either)using an unoriginal post and someone calling you out on it should have been the end. There is no vendetta against you personal or otherwise. You just keep it going and at the same time telling me I shouldn't respond.

It could've been the end, but you were claiming I was unoriginal when you just used an unoriginal post to counter it. So you're trying to use the same logic that you advocate against. And that's just plain funny.

Go on. Tell me I'm wrong. Tell me you didn't say:

Who's more at fault here? The unoriginal guy, or the one who copies him?

We could end this anytime. Just say the word. How about we agree to disagree. I'll word out my response better next time and you don't copy my post to prove a point. :)

For me, FF VII was very immersive for a game you needed to spend at least 40 hours plus on gameplay. I lost many hours on it, but enjoyed the ride. Sometimes a game is popular because it really is a good game, and this is especially true in this case.
I think being too critical on FF VII completely removes you from its immersive storyline/ design and leaves you with a hollow empty feeling that forces you to over analyse what is essentaily an top rated RPG experience.
Btw.. does anyone have the 3rd disc??

Well, it does have the standard JRPG issues of slogging through random battles all the time, which is one issue just about all JRPGs have (except for Chrono Trigger, which is why it's still a top candidate for best JRPG of all time).

I vaguely remember the story being good, but I had a really hard time figuring it all out. That may have been a problem with the disjointed presentation inherent in the format more than anything else, and the fact that a good portion of the story was found in optional side-quests and was related to the optional characters (Yuffie and Vincent).

Aeris's death, in addition to being very sad, was also a big fat cockslap from a gameplay standpoint.

On my first playthrough, I remember beefing up Aeris into my big magic-user, someone to sit in the back row and be on healing and summon duty. Then, after leveling her up with the same dilligence as all my other characters and being very excited finding her ultimate weapon and her kick-ass ultimate limit break, the game has the gall to take her away from me.

Now I have to force the rest of my protagonists, which are all a bunch of melee-oriented meatheads, to try to muddle through the magic stuff as best they can! This is why RPGs hardly ever kill off player characters in the middle of the story, because it's FUCKING BULLSHIT!!!
aeris dying was an awesome storyline twist. it pissed everyone off a little but it added so much to the experience i think. btw, i thought as a character she was pretty useless so i never used her, seeeing her die was probably more of an enjoyable experience for me than yourself.

You know what kills me about this whole thing? That you are so upset that I turned your sentences and used it against you putting you in the same position you put the TC. If you really want to dish it out you better be able to take it.

What's to be upset about? I'm merely having a civil discussion about the logistics of our posting.

I'm curious how you think you're being so original by using the exact same phrase I used. Whether or not you were using psychology by using my own words, you basically skewered your own argument.

If you wanna make a point, you better practice what you preach. ;)

And if you wish to respond, please send me a PM, lest we both suffer modwrath for going off topic.

You might want to read my ENTIRE POST before making such accusations. As you seem to have left out a few lines of text. Also to use your exact arguement once again "I never claimed to be original" I was merely pointing out your hypocrisy (as I will once again with your speeches about the PM that you have yet to use). HEELARIOUS (especially since I am still waiting for your PM back).

I was exactly like you at first.

And then I played FFVII.

Now I acknowledge that it's an awesome game, and I know why people loved it so much when it first came out. However, it's still the most overrated game in the series. The gameplay is quite awesome and the premise is cool, but the story itself plays out like a mediocre anime. All of the characters except for Cloud (who is actually a pretty interesting protagonist) and Sephiroth (who is just as badass as everyone says) are nothing but stereotypes. However, it wasn't known for its story--it was known for the way it told that story. It was one of the most cinematic games ever created back in late 1997.

So, it's a killer game, but nowhere near the best game in the series. Or the best RPG ever created, or the best RPG of 1997. Hell, it's not even the best RPG of September of that year, since it was outdone a few weeks earlier by a little game called Fallout.

And yes, FFVI is, in my opinion, much better.

Didn't you get suspended for this same routine back in the... PSP versus DS RPGs thread I think it was?
Yes. I believe I did. But now's not the time to bring up the past. I learned from that experience, and I'm taking this to PMs, so good day to this thread.

And by the way Squiddy, trying to start an argument is a good way to get suspended. And I know you don't want that, right? ;)

(I know I certainly don't)

Final Fantasy VII was a time and place thing, those who love it do so for their memories of playing the game. Even when they go back to it years later it’s a nice reminder of what they experienced the first time around, which is almost unarguably good game.

Those who didn’t play FFVII at the actual time it came out have very little right to bash the game, simply because they will never experience that ‘first time around’ feeling.

So it’s a bunch of people with rose tinted glasses arguing with a bunch of people who will literally never know what it was like to play the game in the time setting it was meant to be played in.

I loved Parasite Eve 2, but I can never get my friends to play it purely because it’s old, it doesn’t wow them, and rightly so I suppose.

So yeah, a time and place thing. My advice to you would be not to play it. You’ll never have the experience we had way back when. Sorry about that.
I hated that bloody ninja from Parasite eve 2. Great game, though.

Final Fantasy seven is a pretty good game. I never did like Cloud or Sephiroth, though and I think most of my criticism comes from that. I think the reason was that the game, for me, felt like it was repackaging Final Fantasy six with a different kind of insane angel(the kind that might just be likened to mommy issues and not nihilism) and had you chasing him all over the map with the occasional "Hey look, it's Shinra!" moment.

I felt that the game had alot of potential with very little story to feed my voracious need for it.

That, and after beating Kefka and getting used to him as a bad guy, Sephiroth came off as weak sauce.

Yes it is that good and you should be kicked in the balls for even questioning its perfection. That's the same as asking if sex is really that great.
Let me take a wild guess. You are a Fanboy aren't you.
A fair assumption. I've signed dozens of petitions to have this game remade with all the voice actors from Advent Children but I realize developers would likely change too much that made the game as fun as it was in the days of 90's rendering so I'm content with FF7 as it stands; one of the top selling games in the history of mankind.

And yes, Barret was my favorite character too. And I have never ONCE named Cait Sith by his proper name, I usually go with Gay ***** or Reeve to totally fuck up the illusion that he wasn't a Shin'ra Operative.

And while we're on the subject, what ever happened to overworld maps?! Am I just playing the wrong games, or did we somehow "grow out" of whooping our way over the world in flying death traps?
I miss overworld...
