First of this kind of thread is as bad as Halo threads.

Secondly I think you should actually play the game first before saying this about it.
Sure it is not the best FF in some peoples eyes but it is up there in fairness to it.

What I like about it was,
The Materia system sure it problam isn't the best system they have used in FF games but I liked it as you could have any character fill any role. So say if you were really picky and didn't like you didn't have to have them in your group unlike FF9 where roles are set. Which isn't to say it's bad just different.
Also with this system you didn't have to learn spells like FF6 which has it's good and bad points.

Graphics in CGI now you can shout at gneral graphics all you like for being badly done polygonal figures but the game does shine here graphic wise and you have to give it that.
Also battle sequences had quite good graphics too.

Side Quests I like these in the game as I felt there was not too much or too little of them. I didn't feel as if I had to do every single little one to try get one really good weapon or materia to finish t he game(which you didn't).
It didn't feel oversaturated with them.

The Story I found the story really amazing and I ended up quite immersed in it.
Now if you took the time to grind the game could become a bit slow paced but the amount of grinding needed for this FF and say 6 is completely different nowhere near as much is required.

It is really up to you to go and play it. Definitely up there for the best FF in my opinion but if you do go to play it don't believe the after hype it has. It is great but it has been blowen out of proportion.

FF7 was by far a better game than 6. The plot was just a whole lot more thought out. Also You should NEVER EVER judge a game by it's graphics alone. It's like judging a book by it's cover. I'm pretty sure that many people would agree with me on this one.

dispite playing through the game once I didn't care for it compared to 3. (I don't care what you say the one on SNES with Terra is 3 because that's what it says on my cartridge)

It was great but not by today's standards. It was a benchmark game for console rpgs. You look at an rpg today and compare it to FF7 you will see alot of similarities. 60+ hours of gameplay (and not 55 hours of grinding). All the minigames in the casino. A story that consisted more than just a big baddie gonna destroy the world and kidnap helpless princesses. That is all "the norm" today but back then it was unheard of.

Wow. The irony in that is astounding. Please don't respond to me unless you have something good to say.
Nope I contibuted to the thread first. You should try it. You know to make your post count mean something instead of just bashing a thread that has already taken a beating from the first page.

Lol and you are telling me not to say anything if I don't have anything nice to say? Lol priceless.

Excuse me? Did you not see the parentheses? I was saying Final Fantasy 7 was okay, but not great. I downloaded it on PSN and did a thorough playthrough myself, so I had the right to say so.

But I'm not gonna start. You wanna start a little flame war, I just want to let it go. So please let it go before you incure a moderator's wrath.

I don't know why you want to start something. I just felt the thread was unoriginal. People have been asking if FF7 was great or not a hundred times. Goodness knows how many threads are made about it.

Why? You are asking me why? Maybe because the point was already made about it being unoriginal and blah blah blah. Maybe because I am tired of having to scroll through douchy post like that after douchy post lookin for the discussion. Or maybe the irony of making such an "original" post in an unoriginal thread wasn't lost on me. Take your pick.

Hey, either way I'm entitled to my opinion. And I made a post ontopic. I told him my thoughts on Final Fantasy 7, and I didn't go offtopic. So are you gonna tell me I don't have permission to post?

I thought so.

Oh, and notice how I never claimed my post to be original. I was just saying the thread was unoriginal. If I said my post was original, you'd have a valid point. But you called my post unoriginal, when you copied and pasted words my post just to make a counter point.

Frankly, I don't know why you're getting so angry. If so many people are making the same post, go complain to them. Complaining to me won't do a thing, because I didn't know there were so many posts that were exactly the same. I went through the thread pages, but I guess I must've missed them. And I apologize.

Shame I see the irony was lost on you. You call out another person about originality when you might as well copied and pasted yours from the start. I do believe the words "practice what you preach" are in order.

Okay. Whatever that means, let's just end it there. Or do you wanna continue? Because that's what PMs are for.

I didn't copy and paste my response. I played the game, I felt the same. I typed up the response I felt. If you really wanna make something out of this, then you're just fishing for flame bait, aren't you?

You know, you can end this right now if you want. Just walk away, instead of trying to say how horrible a hypocrite I am because I felt the thread was unoriginal, when I honestly didn't see too many other posts on the same subject. If I had known others were calling this thread unoriginal left and right, then hey, I would've thought something else up. But I didn't.

So good day to you Squiddy.

I loved FF7. I also loved FF8 and FF9 which to me are still the best of the Final Fantasy Series.

I really can't say why, but the way the gameplay, the music, and the story fit so well with in each of them just makes the games so perfect.

BTW, just because I say "perfect" does not mean "flawless."

Yes, it is really THAT great. The only reason people don't like it is because they look at it and compare it to modern day games and saying it's overrated. The problem is that you have to look at it from the perspective of a gamer from the 1990's. If you compare it to an extremely advanced game like say... Uncharted 2 (which is a stupid comparison anyway), then of course it won't look as good.

I asked this in a PM to you but I think it should be made public. Why do you think this type of behaviour is acceptable? Could you not have posted "I thought it was OK" and sent a message to the TC through PM instead of embarrassing him or her publicly? It isn't like there is a ton of original threads floating around here to begin with (unless changing the name of the game and asking the same question counts). I am looking forward to hearing how you justify it.

The graphics didn't hold up as well to the older sprite based graphics, and now that I play it again, the story does seem a bit weak, but the mechanics are still good.

6 has 3 big problems to my mind:
1. THE GLITCHES. HOLY HELL THE GLITCHES.
2. The World of Ruin completely loses track of the narrative.
3. Kefka is a great villain, but he's used poorly. An Evilly Affable villain belongs dancing around in the spotlight. He shouldn't just vanish for the entire 2nd half of the game. The reason Sephiroth can get away with not being around much is because he's a villain who is designed to fuck with your head. He's a looming menace who you catch rare glimpses of, and all these glimpses end in mindfucks and murder.
1. What glitches? I remember the game being rather polished, I mean there where a couple times where the game would freeze after 6 hours of strait gameplay, but I don't think that was much different than any other game out there. Half of that was in the hardware, accidentally unplug your controller mid boss-fight? Back to the last save!

Unless of course you're playing it on an emulator, but that's an entirely different story. Gamewise, I don't remember there being any glitches at all.

2. Come now, the World of Ruin's lack of a concise narrative only went to re-enforce the mood. The wold is torn asunder, and as you search through the ravished viscera of places and settlements you once knew, you're greeted with nothing but a sense of despair and remorse, lives turned on end, societies clinging to the last shreds of hope they can, dogs and cats living together... Total chaos! Kefka ravished the land like never before, total destruction from mountains to shore. You find yourself wandering, aimlessly, lost, without purpose, trying to regain your compainions, and assemble some sort of feeling that all is not lost.
All that would be moot if you had the same linear point A to Point B structure of before, you'd loose the feeling.

3. Yeah... he's a *****. Good point. Does give way to question where he is during the disappearance. I like to think he's sitting around in total luxury, eating bonbons and torturing small animals.

I like using the warhammer of nostalgia destruction whenever I get the opportuniy. It's not entirely reliable as it has not been very effective on games like Planescape, Abe's Odyssey and Grim Fandango. It has, however, been super effective against Final Fantasy VII.

I first played the game on 1997 like most people. I loved it back then and I bought it on PC one year later when I had the opportunity. Despite my love for it, I never completed it because I became highly frustrated when I fought and lost against the Tonberry dudes for a good amount of time. I would never touch the game again for a LONG time.

Fast forward 12 years, I complete Crisis Core on PSP. So I think, why not complete the saga by playing the original again? After some disc searching, I reinstall Final Fantasy VII. This time, I had every intention to finish it. 2 months later, I indeed finished the game along with the sidequests. The magic of 12 years ago had long since faded to be replaced by a not that stellar game. Crisis Core was, if not anything else, an omen to that. In fact, the only great assets that the game retained was the music and the feeling of exploration. The rest was from mediocre to bad.

So no, I don't think it's all that great a game. I think that Final Fantasy IV and VI have aged better.
