Hi guys n gals. Just wanted to ask you escapists for advice since the reviews confuses me a bit. Here in Denmark, the reviews seem pretty 'alright' (5-7ish) but when i look at IGN or Gamestop the reviews of FF XIII are pretty good (8-8.5). Two things they seem to agree on are the AWESOME graphics and the extremely linear story.

So, what do you think, is it worth a buying? PS. The price is about 36 dollars.

Prepare for some flame wars, but if you like JRPGs and don't mind extremely linear gameplay, its worth picking up cheap.

I really enjoyed ff13, it was a bit different with the constant swapping of jobs, and if you are looking for 100% completion on trophies/achievements then you are in for a grind (treasure hunter is a b@tch).

It is very linear to the point where sometimes you cant go back and you need to reload a save. But, the story was good, a little confusing but good. The battle mechanics take some getting used to but can be a real treat once you get the system locked down.

For $36 i would say go for it. Its not your traditional final fantasy game but it is enjoyable play time.

No. Point in case, Japan (which are big in both JRPG and Final Fantasy) mostly return their copy. If that country can't stand it... what chance do you get. Here's the pic of it.

I enjoyed the new battle system. Took a bit of getting used to because it's faster than most of the other games in the series but that's probably a good thing. If you don't mind that it's completely linear, I say go for it.

If you like a loooooooong linear game that has pretty graphics, then go for it. I didn't like it. But if you like linear and Japanese stuff it's for you.

I like it, the story is very good, the graphics are great and cutscenes are badass. The combat gets pretty entertaining once you get used to it, the leveling system is really just ffX system with a few cosmetic tweaks.
The character hope is really fucking annoying at the start but when he stfu it gets better :) and the rest are fine.

Tl;Dr If you like good storytelling with competent gameplay, a small amount of open world and the modified sphere grid then get it. I loved it.

I love good storyteling and the sphere grid. Actually FFX + X-2 are the only FF games i've played since i first saw the (AWESOME) movie FFVII. But i always LOVE open world.. But maybe the graphics and battles will get me :)

Let me ask you something. If you want the best Italian Pasta, you go to Italy right? The best sushi, to Japan? The best Borscht (or whatever they spell it), to Russia? The best Poutine, to Canada?(Mostly Quebec, trust me) So, when you think like that... Their videogame forte is JRPG with one getting release every 2 month. When you get that in perspective, you kinda have to go with the expert and not doing it. Or be like me and be stuck with a Useless disk as a trophy of how much a Fanboy you have become and how much bullshit they can do on fan before they feel like rape. Keep in mind that i also bought it 69$ Brand new with strategy guide and they would have taking it back for 5 measly buck.

But i'm NOT a fanboy.. I get your point, but as the reviews said most of the fanboys were pretty pissed about the game. Guess i'll just have to try it, and if i don't i'd still have had a good gaming experince, that's my perspective anyway. Thanks.. You just kinda opened my eyes :)

I really liked it, most of the characters were well rounded and likeable, without being too annoying, the battle system is slow burning but really rewarding in the end. The game is not perfect though, still worth buying and playing through.

I quite liked it, although sometimes I did find it annoying and just padded out.
I'd say wait a little longer for the price to drop (they're about £17 over here, which is what I'd buy it for). I don't think I'd play it again though, I prefer playing shorter games again to longer games.
Also, I see the same people bitching about the same games. It's like they trawl the forums and when they a topic about a game they don't like, their eyes light up with excitement and instead of offering advice they come to shove their opinion down your throat.
Each to their own, I suppose.

One of the worst games I've had the misfortune of playing. And I loved FF7-10. I'd consider it a bad deal unless people are paying YOU to receive the game. Time is money, and time spent on FF13 is wasted time.

I was still fooling myself on their promise of a "As good as FF6". I don't say it bad that you love it... but hey, i just warn you like you wanted to be warn. I didn't like it.

As such, it would be pretty wise to just Rent it for a week-end. At least if you can get over the first 40 min that were described as Painfull by FF enthusiast. If you want more, than it's a buy.

They feel like rape, buddy. They feel like rape.

PS: I liked almost nothing about it and I liked every FF I've tried so far (atleast the main ones). I still say go for it, just for the experience. It taught me quite a lot about game design (as in how 'not' to do certian things). You can get it cheaper than 36 bucks, probably less than 10 when you check the net.

As a final fantasy fanboy I can safely say

No

It's dull
Has a terrible story, especially for a final fantasy story
The worst characters in a JRPG I've seen for a long time
Terrible combat system that feels like you don't need to be there
Finally it's linear. In very other final fantasy you get a world map at some point but this one is entirely linear

I hated it, one of the worst final fantasy's bar XII. It's also the only final fantasy I couldn't stand until the end. 1,2, Never could get a copy of 3 and 4, 5,6 7, 8, 9, 10 all completed but not 13
