Doom was almost certainly the first I played at a friend's house, I remember having a
lot of fun with that chainsaw, and making me very excited for 3D environments. The first shooter I played for any real length of time though was Goldeneye. I saved up for fricking ages to get an N64, and I played that game for
months. It probably took me about a week to get past facility.
I was insanely terrible at games back then; my previous gaming experience was a second hand NES with about 4 games, and a lend of a Mega Drive with sonic and Ecco the Dolphin. I never got past Marble zone, and I also remember eventually getting to world 4 in Mario and being insanely happy to have gotten that far.
Like I said, pretty bad.
Edit: well, that got a little off topic. I tend to do that when I reminisce...
