When I was about seven or eight years old my parents gave me a game that scared the crap out of me I was never able to play even the first level because the opening movie scared me and I have never tried playing it again. I'm not sure about the name of the game but I thinks it was Goblins 2 or something like that.

The people in Titanic Adventure Out Of Time were kind of creepy and I was a little bit scarred of them when I was younger.

Silent Hill 4 - The Room.

I was only younger back then, but at the time there came a point where I had to switch off my Xbox and point at the game shouting 'BAD.. BAD GAME! Quit doing weird shit!'

And leave.

AvP 2.
I was probably scared by a game before this but this was the clincher.

I had played Alien vs Preditor 2 campain through with the alien first (best fun EVER) then the Preditor (sometimes unstoppable killing machine can be good fun) and then I started the human campain... I got about 30 min into it and had to stop, never to play human again.

I had spent so much time playing alien and preditor (alien only in multiplayer) and making the humans my fast food special and pwning any that came near me. So when I got to play the human, I was in constant fear that every blip on the motion detector was certain doom.

I have never played anything since that has scared me as much.

Seeing my dad play Resident Evil 2. I was about 6 then and the idea of cannabalistic Undead people scared me... a lot. In fact I can clearly remember screaming in the opening cut scene where the zombies pops up out the back of the car that Claire and Leon are in.

Eternal Darkness as well! lol. Whilst it didnt scare the shit out of me per se, some of the psychological effects really got to me lol. I remember once the TV turned off as i was playing randomly and i was sooooo confused! i really didn't know wtf had happened, then the game started up again and i was like wtf haha. One of my greatest moments in gaming; when a game can do something like that to you, you know its a good immersive game!

Though Yahtzee would probably be disgusted at the spelling of his name and game, I concur. For hand-made-in-paint graphics, The Chzo Mythos games were freaky as hell. When you look at those games, and others like Silent Hill 1 and The Maze Game, it's clear that games can still freak you out without pretty pictures.

Silent Hill 1. Most especially the humpback doctors in Nowhere. The thing with that game is what you can't see is probably more scary than the things you can. The radio static is an indicator, you'll feel your hair stand on end. Then comes the weird sounds from the background (dissonant piano, as if someone was pounding on the keys in particular). Then the grunts and groans of the monsters. At night. With only your chest flashlight for visibility.

pretty straight forward. It doesn't have to be the first horror game you played just the first time you were genuinly frightened.
Mine was the re-deads in Zelda OoT. Just the terrible thoughto f being paralyzed while something slowly eats me alive. Though on the plus side it started my feti...interest in zombies.
Were the ReDeads eating you alive? I had the idea they were doing something else...

House of the Dead 1 when I was about 4. Came out of that arcade shaking. Now I can't get enough of the linear-zombie-shooter
