Silent Hill 2 on the PS2.

I hadn't yet been desensitized by the internet, so that game freaked me out a lot. I wouldn't even play it unless it was during the day and someone else was in the house.

NOTE: At that time my family and I lived 20 or so miles outside of town, literally in the middle of nowhere. So the fear was justified.

Yoshi's Island on the last boss. Although this was when I was 3, so then it's explainable. First game to make the mature person in me really shake in fear was the first five minutes of Bioshock, cause I had no idea whether it would get scarier or not. Then I realized it didn't.

System Shock 2. There was me expecting a fun-filled adrenaline ride like Half Life... I keep meaning to go back and play it sometime (after being desensitized to horror by many other games) but I heard that the cutscenes don't work on XP. Does anyone know if this is true, and whether it affects the game overly?

AvP 2.
I was probably scared by a game before this but this was the clincher.

I had played Alien vs Preditor 2 campain through with the alien first (best fun EVER) then the Preditor (sometimes unstoppable killing machine can be good fun) and then I started the human campain... I got about 30 min into it and had to stop, never to play human again.

I had spent so much time playing alien and preditor (alien only in multiplayer) and making the humans my fast food special and pwning any that came near me. So when I got to play the human, I was in constant fear that every blip on the motion detector was certain doom.

I have never played anything since that has scared me as much.
This, EXACTLY this!

"Old man Stauf built the house and filled it with his toys
six guests were invited on night, screams the only noise"

I was thirteen.
And scared sh*tless :)
That was the game I was thinking of. Thank you, trying to remember the name almost drove me insane. Anyway what he said. I wish that I could play it again.

Playing as the Marine in AVP scared the shite out of me when I first played it since I was familiar with how both the Alien and Predator work I walked in realising that I was going to be the odd one out who might as well have a sign saying 'DINNER' stuck on my helmet.

As someone else said before me, everyone is out to get you and the game is so dark (and your vision modes so rudimentary) that every blip on the radar and every slight sound or movement is an instant and major cause for alarm (for all you know it could be a predator or one of the dreaded facehuggers), in fact, in the colony med lab in the second level I had to wait in place and stop for a good half an hour to build up the courage to walk in and deal with any facehuggers that were there (it's an Alien game, we're in a Medlab, you can pretty much tell that there's going to be facehuggers or chestbursters somewhere around here).

Also, Alone in The Dark: the New Nightmare. I still rate it as one of the best horror games I've ever played (and one of the scariest and most difficult).

Metroid Fusion, when the SA-X was walking around, and you had to hide from him. That always scared the hell out of me, even when I had the volume turned off so I couldn't hear the soundtrack.

At least I'm not the only person to say Legend of Zelda: OoT...
I did good until Link turned older, then I was just scared of those damn zombies.. I never finished that game.
Thanks to Doom 3--which also messed me up a bit, now I have a hate towards zombies and I just want to kill them like everyone else does.

The first game I played that scared me was Halo, but before that, watching people play Abe's Oddysee and Exodus scared me a bit (I was 5, Fleeches... blech...)

Hmm...has to be the F.E.A.R 2 demo I played on my computer. I didn't get scared alot, but that was the only time I've been scared by a game, since I usually don't play horror games, because they lack in gameplay.
