For me the "Hitler" thing could have a lot to do with the fact that just yesterday I watched Inglorious Bastards again, but I also watched Warhorse that day, which painted Germans as no different from the British in their concern for the well being of animals,

also Volkswagen

The first that that pops into my head is the movie "Eurotrip".
"Scotty Doesn't Know" is one of my ringtones.

Though when I think Eurotrip, I usually think Lustra, the mime fight, and Vinny Jones. And occasionally, "You made out with your sister!"

Germany rarely factors into my Eurotrip thoughts. Which is odd, when you consider they're trying to make it to Berlin. ah well. >.>

It's "NAZIS!!!"
As I'm sure it is for most people who said otherwise above me.
It's not that any of us think they are obviously, It's just something they have got to live with.
Too many movies and games based around nazis.

That sort of German scientist stereotype pops into my head. You know, like the medic from TF2. Goofy accent, tiny glasses with circular lenses, strong jawline, usually pictured with book in hand, maybe in a Nazi uniform.

And of course, Nazis themselves. It isn't that anyone thinks Germans are still Nazis or that Germany was nothing but Nazis at the time, that's just kind of what it's known for. Nothing wrong with that. I'm from the US, and I'll wager the equivalent for us is that sort of stupid cowboy asshole stereotype.

Edit: Ooo! And some crazy-sick porn. Seriously. No offense, but I thought America made some messed up stuff. You want some seriously disturbing stuff that will screw with your worldview forever, you have to go the amateur German route.

I love these threads.

Well firstly I see the flag of Germany, then I think German (the language), then I start thinking of great German beer. There are plenty of awesome German bands too. I also start to think of the Germany track in Cruis'n The World for N64, which is an awesome and easy stage. Oooh, and fantastic sausages. German is a great language, especially the fact that a kindly old grandmother asking if you want more milk and cookies still sounds like "DEUTSCHLOCHEN DU BISTIN FISTIN BERGEN DU MAS FREIZENSCHIESS".

I don't think of Nazis. Nazis are the stock enemies in games and movies. I actually forgot they were German until OP mentioned it. They're less terrifying and more an easily-mockable cautionary tale for those of us who are growing up in this century.

I think first: how the fuck did my great grand parents meet being on opposite sides of the war? (I like to think romeo and juliet style where both lived) and second: Scientists :p Shut up dont judge me, I like being happy and calling germans smart should not be considered racist!

Beer, engineering, strange art films, fiscal responsibility, sausages, Sennheiser headphones, Oktoberfest, and busty blonde women in lederhosen. Pretty much in that order.

Germany is an amazingly beautiful country. I also like how stable it is in the economic crisis and even when people try and attach fear to the country how well it stands up and tells everyone that their goal is to be emulated for their stability and self reliance. Germany is pretty damned cool.

I first picture the shape of the country in my head. Then I think about everyone driving really, really fast everywhere they go (I know that is just the Audubon and not too many people drive that fast but still...). Then I think about Super Troopers. That is about it really. I know they are known for beer, but I don't drink it.

Very good question! I would have to say it is almost always SS-Standartenführer Vogel from Indiana Jones: Last Crusade.
