Gran Torino. Clint Eastwood you clever bastard.
Agreed.
I also agree with No Country for Old Men. Many will think it's crap because of it's pace, perhaps they won't see the same things I did, taste is subjective afterall.
This is England was a film that caused me to stop and digest what I had seen. For those who don't know it's about a 12 year old boy whos father was killed during the Falklands war. Without a father, growing up in the recession hit north of England, he befriends a group of local skinheads (the proper type, not the AB type). He then finds a father figure in one of their old friends, whos time in prison, not to mention his underlying psychological problems have turned him into a National Front supporting racist.
It's difficult to explain without spoiling it, but being from a working class background myself it reminded me of things I have experienced in my own life. It deals with people from hard lives misdirecting their anger, clashes of cultures and loss of innocence. It can easily be identified with today, in our current situation. As our generation we wonder how racism can still exist, it shows how the seeds are planted, the anger which guides it and the consequences of it.
