The film 'Requiem for a Dream' has haunted me ever since I saw it.

If you want a hit in the stomach, this movie: punches you in the gut, throws you down the stairs, drags you into the street, and runs you over with an Oldsmobile.

Well if you are referring to a punch in the stomach as a strong emotional response, then Up would be the most recent.

As for my head getting rattled most definitely Inception

Pan's Labyrinth. Holy crap, I'm still reeling from that one. It took me a long time to really figure out what I thought of it before I eventually decided it was a beautiful masterpiece of film.
Yes! That's how I kind of feel now, like when I watched Pan's Labyrinth.
I'm not trying to troll or anything like that, but what's that amazing about Pan's Labyrinth? I mean, it was good, but not great like everyone says it is.

Oh! And, I know this is silly, but the ending of Dr Horrible's Sing-along-blog really shocked me.

You know, it was such a short show, that when they killed penny, I was really, really surprised, because it was pretty light up until that point that it was a total rug-pulled-from-under-feet moment.
Dude, I was just as stunned after seeing it. And I actually CRIED.

Persona 3 and 4 were the ones that punched me right in the gut. Just... wow.

Inception
i was breathless after that movie and i just cant explain how unbelievably awesome the movie i just saw was
one of the five movies i know of that i could easily call perfect in my opinion

another is the movie Serenity
ui cant believe they killed Wash the comic relief and the heart of the crew cut down by a random spike through a windshield that sole moment shocked me so bad i watched the rest of the movie in a trance
blew my mind as well

Berserk (the manga)

It's been many, MANY years since a piece of modern media impacted me in the same way as this comic did.
It's like a long period of reading an ordinary comic then suddenly your mind is getting raped by horrifying demons.

I subject myself to things known to have that sort of effect. I enjoy a good story, and tamer ones just rarely satisfy.

I was 17 and watched Fight Club and Taxi Driver in a given week. Damn are those two works that spoke to me at that time. Still enjoy them, and don't worry I didn't do anything too silly.

Gran Torino. Clint Eastwood you clever bastard.
Agreed.

I also agree with No Country for Old Men. Many will think it's crap because of it's pace, perhaps they won't see the same things I did, taste is subjective afterall.

This is England was a film that caused me to stop and digest what I had seen. For those who don't know it's about a 12 year old boy whos father was killed during the Falklands war. Without a father, growing up in the recession hit north of England, he befriends a group of local skinheads (the proper type, not the AB type). He then finds a father figure in one of their old friends, whos time in prison, not to mention his underlying psychological problems have turned him into a National Front supporting racist.

It's difficult to explain without spoiling it, but being from a working class background myself it reminded me of things I have experienced in my own life. It deals with people from hard lives misdirecting their anger, clashes of cultures and loss of innocence. It can easily be identified with today, in our current situation. As our generation we wonder how racism can still exist, it shows how the seeds are planted, the anger which guides it and the consequences of it.

There are a couple films that have done this to me.

1. Fight Club (every fucking time, man!)
2. Avatar (I walked around the city in a daze for an hour not knowing where I was, just that none of it seemed real after that)
3. Wanted (Yeah OK it was a crappy film but I dunno, I felt different afterwards, like I wanted to make something of my life)
4. Dark Knight (changed my life. simple as that)

Resevoir dogs is a piece of art, I thought it was generic cussing for the first five minutes but it REALLY showed its source.
