Also, this is not sushi

Notice the absence of actual fish(imitation crab does not count)?

This is sushi.

Here the fish is actually touching the platter. I miss Osaka(Okinawan portions are less generous).
I was under the impression that sushi is not defined by the ingredients but how the rice is prepared. I've heard of people using ham, cheese, or egg in place of the fish, which can be a little pricy.

Just so it doesn't look like I'm pulling this out my rear,Sources: http://www.miyakosushigroup.com/Sushi%20History.html

OT: Hamburger Helper to stroganoff or really anything they touch.

In Australia we automatically get both. Your American bacon would form the top bit of an Australian bacon rasher, and the British rasher would be the bottom bit. You lot are like a pair of divorced parents trying to break up the family unit. Can't you tell that they're meant to be served, together?

Wow, suddenly this turned into a whole "America sucks" thread. You do realize there's just as much shitty food in your countries too, right? If you only focus on the negative, everything seems shitty. There's plenty of good American food that people have actively ignored here. Speaking of American products that outclass other, American beer. Oh, what's that, you cry? Lower alcohol content? No, and actually thinking that is stupid. American alcohol content is measured by weight, while most other countries measure by volume. It makes American beer appear to be weaker when in many cases it's stronger. But enough about alcohol content, let's get to the real point: Lone Star is the best beer you will ever drink, and the only dissenters I've met are people that have yet to actually try it.
Taking things a little seriously here, it isn't really an "America" sucks thread but when you have more products to knock off, what do you expect?

Also American beer just tastes crap.

This is funny--I'm American, and I was just talking to an Australian friend last night about bacon, and he pointed out the difference between American and Australian bacon. My mind was kind of blown.

Also, "American cheese" is horrible, but the fact that it exists does not mean that Americans think that's what cheese is or should be. It's not as if that's the only cheese that's available in America; far from it. It's pretty depressing that "American" as a food prefix pretty much automatically means "processed and artificial".

On a somewhat tangential note, my family and I spent some time in Amsterdam a while back, and at one point we were eating breakfast that included slices of some particularly tasty cheese. We asked the waiter what it was, and he just called it "Dutch cheese", which makes me wonder if what we were eating was basically the Dutch version of American cheese.

OT, the "syrup" that cheap restaurants serve you in place of maple syrup. Protip: If the menu doesn't say "real maple syrup", you're going to get this cloyingly-sweet, too-thick sludge poured all over your breakfast instead of the good stuff.

Also, orange juice from concentrate. Glargh. Give me freshly-squeezed or give me death!

-Pretty much any cheese that comes in pre-packaged slices, everyone know that the best kinds of cheese come in wheels.

-Frozen fries (how hard is it to just fry potatoes?)

-Minute Rice (same issue as the fries, it's not that hard to do it right)

-Microwave food

-Frozen fish, there's always a really disgusting goopy layer between the fish and the bread

-I think this is just a Canadian brand; the bread just doesn't taste like, or have the consistency of real bread, I'm not quite sure how to describe it, but it's very shitty bread

Deep fried chocolate. What the sam shit is appealing about it?! I still have to remind myself that it's not some over-the-top parody from an SNL skit. I can't even fathom the thought process behind the creation of a deep fried chocolate bar. "Hmm, this chocolate is sweet, smooth and delicious, but would be perfect if it was encased in a layer of crusty oil and fat." Mesoamerican tribes would be horrified at what we've done with their delicious discovery.

It's very likely they just didn't know what type of cheese it was exactly.

Those are pretty much "all" different types of cheese.

I'd just like to point out that I've seen the European style of bacon sold in U.S. butcher shops as Arkansas bacon or country bacon. So it is totally available if you shop at the right places.

I've had caffeine free Coke before, and it pretty much taste the same as regular Coke (to me anyway). Also, most clear sodas tend to not have caffeine in them.

And I'm not even sure I've seen Coke Black.

On a side note, I'll admit, I love Mountain Dew. You win that round Pepsi.

by mistake. What is this monstrosity?!! Everyone knows Mountain Dew is basically sugar water, and you have removed half of it's very essence!

So, my fellow escapists, tell me one of your favorite foods/beverages that has become "corrupted" is some way.

(Yes this is all opinion-based and is not meant to be taken too seriously)
False. Mountain Dew is basically caffeine water. It's an energy drink without the douchiness XD

I drink diet Mountain Dew all the time because I need a caffeine boost but am too lazy to make coffee and too cheap to buy energy drinks.

OT: Non-alcoholic whiskey sours. I only know it exists (saw it as a search suggestion somewhere) but it's still confusing. If it's non-alcoholic, isn't just a sour?

If you have one you can use a griddle, too. Also, "sandwich toasters" don't exist in American kitchens. We use inferior (but space saving?) toasting devices that only take bread. You'll find no "toasties" here.
What, you don't have toaster ovens where you are at in the US?

I use mine when I want to make grilled cheese and I'm too lazy to get out a frying pan and sit in front of it.

So, a toaster oven toasts sandwiches just fine.

It's also good for leftover pizza. Pizza usually tastes better the second day after it has been toasted for a few minutes in there.

Also, you know all those bite sized foods like pizza rolls and such, that talk about how fast and wonderful they are when using a microwave? Don't torture yourself by eating those foods that way. Use a toaster oven, it will make them nice and toasty instead of soggy and awful.
-------------------------------------------

I'll go with fast food. I love the spicy chicken wraps from Wendy's. I remember when McDonald's tried to bring out their own version.

Wendy's chicken in the wrap tastes just like the chicken you would get from the sandwich form. McDonald's wrap is smaller and it tastes like crud, because it is less meat and mostly hard over cooked breading, like they even more over cooked one of those chicken select things they used to have and stuck it in a wrap.

Though, it isn't hard to beat McDonald's. Really, the only thing they have that tastes good is their fries, but you have to catch them when they've just brought them out of the frier and they've come out properly crisp....so about 10% of the time.
