For the older gamers (10+ years of gaming), what is your GOTD (game of the decade)?

Rather than pick single games I have to pick series as a running theme/story makes a game so much more amazing to me

and on that note Mass Effect1+2 are a clear winner to me for amazing story telling gameplay characters and roleplaying

but i have to also say homeworld 1+2 because let alone are they still beautiful now even whil being outdated. They have a great story and still play well. And no one has a made a decent space RTS since

i'm going to say morrowind. sure, maybe judging by my name it may seem biased..
but it was (still is) an amazing game that has consumed hours of my and other peoples lives. and while it may not have withstood the test of time as well as other games like ocarina of time, it still is one of the most influential examples of great open world rpgs.

there are three runners up i'd put on my list.

as far as my opinion goes: fable. god that game is fun and it blew my mind when i first played it. too bad the series has gone a little down hill from there, but fable in my opinion is everything a great RPG should be and much more. played it almost as long as morrowind just because i beat it so many times.

another one with my biased opinion is the witcher. deep narrative, and wonderfully executed game that definitely deserves its place in at least the top four in my opinion.

and as far as a game i will remember the first decade of the 2000's by is metal gear solid 3. no explanation needed.

Vanquish takes the title. The purest, most refined, and most addictive gameplay experience I've had in close to 30 years of gaming.

Metroid Prime. It was my first game for my first system. I had played on friends and siblings for years but that was a great game and it was all personal. Felt different.

Team Fortess 2

It's lasted so long compared to other games. It's a great game. I feel it's a once in a decade kind of game. Nothing will match it for years.

I'll restrict my reward to indie games, since no one else is giving them awards:

Bastion, best gameplay and narrative
Limbo, best platform/puzzler
Amnesia: dark descent, best atmosphere/story

I'd have to say Red Dead Redemption is my game of the decade. I never had so much fun with a game in my life. I still play it and I'm sure it will never get old to me.

Im new here but I wanted to weigh in, I have 2 games that I believe have yet to be mentioned; Max Payne (it invented the FPS comic book/legit storyline, not just mindlessly killing things for the heck of it) and Soldier of Fortune: Double Helix. Last 5 years would have to be Uncharted 1, came out of nowhere and still holds its own 4 years after the PS3 was released.

Well mine will have to be StarWars Knights of the old republic since that is the game that started my love affair with bioware. i can even forgive them for dragon age 2 because of kotor. mass effect 2 and half-life 2 are a tie in second.

KOTOR. I've been playing it for eight years and it is still as fun as the first time I played it, even if I have most of the dialogue memorized.

I just fit into this (I started technically when I was 4 with Mario Kart 64)

But anyway I would say portal but the fan base has made me less inclined to like it.

Halo's good but it's not GOTD material.

Borderlands is by far the most played.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was also good.

I'm gonna say Borderlands.

Note: Zombie games are disqualified for all being the same. and the RDR pack was stupid.

World of Warcraft I suppose. It has had the most profound effect on millions of people, and has changed games forever. Of course, it's current state is pathetic, but considering all the good times and epic moments it has given over the years, not many games can measure up to it. WoW showed us what MMOs can be.

Kotor, Fallout 3, or Half Life 2

Loved all of them and really couldn't choose just one of them because they are all different.
