Wow. Seriously, thats bringing back some memories. I haven't even been on the RuneScape website for over a year now, and was playing on and off a year before that. Before that, I was on it all the time. Had some seriously great times on it.

I'm getting nostalgic!

I remember when they removed PKing in the Wilderness. Wow. Half my friends list were protesting/rioting. There were massive drop parties in protest, which I remembered screwed over the in game economy when very rich players left extremely rare and valuable items (Party Hats, Santa Hats etc) were either sold to an NPC shop or just left in the middle of nowhere.

I missed the free trade system. It was nice to give people presents on their birthday, and having to hunt through the forums to find someone selling the item you wanted, then joining their world and tracking them down, then haggling. It was honestly enjoyable. The Grand Exchange changed everything. You simply picked the item you wanted, gave an offer, and waited. It certainly made trading easier, but also more boring. It also restricted the economy. I had to keep up to date with the prices of items. With the GE, I didnt have to. It regulated the prices.

Eventually it all calmed down. Many of my friends had quit. Update after update were released. Farming. Hunting. Summoning. I slowly stopped playing. I refused to announce that I was quitting, because I didnt want to "waste" the years I'd spent on the game. But I don't play it anymore.

When I went back on about a year after quitting, I joined my old clan chat channel. Names I remembered were there. They remembered me. But everything had changed. I simply could not play it again. I had such a small amount of money (about 100k, I think) that I would have to begin grinding to make anymore, and I had no will to.

All in all, I'd love to start playing again, but it's too far gone. I feel nostalgic thinking about it. I really want to play it again, but at the same time I know I'd hate myself for doing so.

I'm probably going to go back on it anyway.

I would love to play Runescape if they got rid of the stupid death system! Who's idea was the drop all your items but the three rarest!?
Urghh, yea, challenges are so lame!
I love challenges, one reason why Demon's souls is one of my favorite games of all time. Though its not a challenge, its just stupid.
It adds risk to an overly easy game; that's challenge.

Ex-player who got to lvl 70 something speaking...

I never really went to the Wilderness, really. Ever. And even if I did, it would be on a remote server, and in the farthest reaches of it. I think I was trying to get some Law Runes...but I sure was paranoid of PKs.

Either way, on MMORPG, it's pretty essential for the players in the same world to be able to beat each other up, and the Wilderness allowed that. It was just the issue of lost equipment when you die really. The other person may well pick it up, but will they give it back?

I see one problem with the poll. All you need is a name so people can just look up names on the highscores and enter them. I havent played in forever but I didnt like the new trade system and them getting rid of the wild so I voted.

The ecomomy's messed up on there? When was this? I remember lots of merch'ers, but beyond that, it seemed fine, last I heard. Bleg. I never liked the old Wildy in the first place, not that I tended to hang out there much. I liked the gnome fort a lot though... o_O Oh, the memoriesss.

Whaaat they removed the Wilderness? That was the whole point of playing in the first place!

I remember when I first got my full set of rune armor. I saved for a week or two. Then I walked into the wilderness, attacked a guy two levels below me wearing his birthday suit, and he shot me full of arrows and took my armor. That sucked.

Ahhh, the old ancient days of Runescape. The bronze age of gaming for me, if you will.

OT: Not sure if it'll ruin the economy but gold farmers and bots will -never- go away, so long as MMO's exist. :p Trust in that.

Ah Runescape.

Would you believe that was the thing that taught me about economy and bargining?

Nice that they are bringing it back. :D

While RS was my first MMO game, the game that taught me how to write complete sentences and use proper grammer, (Seriously) I won't be returning even after this.

Don't get me wrong the game was awesome, but once you get to level 90+ like I was, it just becomes a horrible grind fest. All my friends on that game became uninterested in doing anything else. I'm not going to spend a week of my time killing thousands of mobs just to get a couple of levels >.<

Cheers runescape, hope you really have a blast with the population spike.

Sadly it never was that simple. most people nowadays fake their combat level by annoying tricks, reason I never could PK.

Nothing but good came out of removing free trade and PvP from the wilderness. Free trade allowed for easy real-world trading, allowing players to put themselves above others simply because they had more money. Removing it also made botting nearly useless, which is a miracle in itself.

Removing the wilderness was never a problem. If you wanted to fight other players, you could enter one of the many PvP mini-games (Castle Wars, Clan Wars, Duel Arena, Bounty Hunter, etc), each of which was many times better than fighting in the wilderness, not to mention the fact that there were entire worlds dedicated to wilderness-style PvP where fighting took place across the entire world. If you wanted to gank weaker players who were only in the wilderness for quests and treasure trails, then why don't you just kill yourself you griefing douche.

The only things that will come out of allowing this to pass are scammers, griefers, and exploiters, and the last thing I want to see is Runescape returning to the flame-worthy way it used to be.

I loved to play Runescape back in the day. Only reason I stopped playing was because of too much time it consumed. Kudos to the dev team and moderators! :)

Wait, so will I be able to kill other players again? If so I may start playing again. For the lulz.

Sad that your getting killed in the Wilderness by other players? Here's a thought, don't go in there. And if you do, make sure your with a group of people you can trust.

And besides, when I attacked people I did it with no weapons, armor, or items. I just beat them to death with my bare damn hands. Because thats how I roll.

I still play runescape every once in a while (usually to just have the holiday items).

I happen to dislike the wilderness for PK'ing and am glad it is gone because when a quest or mission sends you out there, you were essentially doomed by teams of players waiting to ambush you alongside the multiple high level monsters up there.

The free trade is another topic entirely. On the one hand it is great that you can have a friend give you stuff for free (where an I owe you one mentality tends to apply) but on the other hand (I think) these imbalanced trades seriously helped the people that wanted to scam newer players out of some money in completely unbalanced trades.

If they move quests, games ands such out then I'm fine with it. I don't want to be doing a quest or going to play a mini-game and they get killed by players. If it's an NPC that's fine, but I don't want my plans ruined by some random person.
