Wow. Seriously, thats bringing back some memories. I haven't even been on the RuneScape website for over a year now, and was playing on and off a year before that. Before that, I was on it all the time. Had some seriously great times on it.
I'm getting nostalgic!
I remember when they removed PKing in the Wilderness. Wow. Half my friends list were protesting/rioting. There were massive drop parties in protest, which I remembered screwed over the in game economy when very rich players left extremely rare and valuable items (Party Hats, Santa Hats etc) were either sold to an NPC shop or just left in the middle of nowhere.
I missed the free trade system. It was nice to give people presents on their birthday, and having to hunt through the forums to find someone selling the item you wanted, then joining their world and tracking them down, then haggling. It was honestly enjoyable. The Grand Exchange changed everything. You simply picked the item you wanted, gave an offer, and waited. It certainly made trading easier, but also more boring. It also restricted the economy. I had to keep up to date with the prices of items. With the GE, I didnt have to. It regulated the prices.
Eventually it all calmed down. Many of my friends had quit. Update after update were released. Farming. Hunting. Summoning. I slowly stopped playing. I refused to announce that I was quitting, because I didnt want to "waste" the years I'd spent on the game. But I don't play it anymore.
When I went back on about a year after quitting, I joined my old clan chat channel. Names I remembered were there. They remembered me. But everything had changed. I simply could not play it again. I had such a small amount of money (about 100k, I think) that I would have to begin grinding to make anymore, and I had no will to.
All in all, I'd love to start playing again, but it's too far gone. I feel nostalgic thinking about it. I really want to play it again, but at the same time I know I'd hate myself for doing so.
I'm probably going to go back on it anyway.
