I put mine in first, I cannot bare the thought of it going in last, it makes the tea taste awful.
I get slated for this from fellow tea lovers and that I'm "doing it wrong"

Does it really matter?

Does it really matter? YES! If I want a bloody lovely cuppa, that is! (Which I do, of course)

What kind of tea? Some I just use sugar...like peppermint and green tea.
Others though I add milk for extra flavor. And usually after I add the sugar.
If it's not sweet enough I can't drink it.

Here, I'll write down my entire Tea-making method for you!

First, boil your kettle [http://www.homeandcook.co.uk/repository/product/breakfast/Kettles/krups_flf3/krups_kettle_flf3.jpg] with enough water [http://www.dfid.gov.uk/r4d/images/articles/water.jpg] to make enough cups of Tea as you need/want at the present time.

Secondly, pour some Milk [http://www3.thestandard.org.nz/wp-content/uploads/2009/01/milk-bottle.jpg] into the Teacups [http://www.pressies4princesses.co.uk/img/our-gifts/slogan-mugs/love-you-very-much-mug-2.jpg] you plan on using to drink the tea from.

Third; after the kettle [http://www.homeandcook.co.uk/repository/product/breakfast/Kettles/krups_flf3/krups_kettle_flf3.jpg] has boiled, place two/three [http://wedonetwork.co.uk/wedotech/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/teabag.gif] Teabags [http://verdecoffee.com/images/categories/tea-bags.jpg] into your Teapot [http://jamorama.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/teapot6bk1.jpg], and pour all of the hot water into it.

Fourth, leave the Tea to brew in the Teapot [http://jamorama.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/teapot6bk1.jpg] for five minutes or so.

Fifth, return to the Teapot [http://jamorama.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/teapot6bk1.jpg], and pour it's contents into the Teacups [http://www.pressies4princesses.co.uk/img/our-gifts/slogan-mugs/love-you-very-much-mug-2.jpg].

Congratulations! You have now made a cup of Tea! [http://static.guim.co.uk/sys-images/Guardian/Pix/pictures/2007/11/26/cupoftea2.jpg]

(Gosh, that took me ages!)
I love you.

I put mine in last. Just because it's easier to gauge when there's enough milk or not. As in I can choose how much I want to dilute my tea.

-I let my tea steep for 3-4 minutes if i want it straight (no sugar)
-sometimes depending of the tea itself (example cinnamon) i like to add a touch of milk and 1 or 2 teaspoons of sugar
-when i manage to get that sweet and awfully tick canned condensed milk, i add to the hot tea (goes specially well on fruity teas no sugar needed)
-i have tested tea with regular condensed milk, wipping cream, and heavy wipping cream..i have even made cappuccino tea by using the expresso machine's steam shooter.

It depends on whether you want to make tea in the jordy/northerner style, or southerner fashion.

Folk from up north put the milk in WITH the bag, which creates a milder taste; whist I, like other southern folk, put the milk in AFTER the bag has been taken out, which results in a fuller flavour.

Now if you excuse me, all this talk about tea has got me in the mood for a mug of our national beverage...

I know that quote, just can't remember where it's from.

OT:

I don't really like adding milk to anything other than cereal.

When you add milk to boiling hot tea, you scald the milk, leaving for a potentially more bitter cuppa - whereas adding boiling tea from a pot to milk allows for the milk to heat up more gradually, resulting in a richer brew. (It's the casein in milk that benefits the taste and makes it sweeter)

If you can, make a pot of tea and add the already brewed cup of tea to your milk - make sure to use a tea cozy or something of that nature to keep the tea as hot as possible. Using pots with proper tea (not teabags) also allows you to use an infuser, which makes your brew taste awesome.

Making a single mug of tea, though, it's more efficient to just add milk in afterwards.

Milk should always go in first.

I think there's a scientific explanation for the improvement in taste, but I'm not a scientist so I'm not going to speculate.

It doesn't. I don't put milk in my tea, ruins the tea-y goodness.
Sounded like Shale for a second there, "It doesn't have milky tea?".

I am very OCD about making my tea, I go through a little ritual to make it but milk goes in last.

Pop a tea bag in, fill to the level I want, get all the air out so it floats half way down the cup, stir it as fast as I can for 10 or so seconds, then one counter stir, lift the tea bag out, use another spoon to ring the tea bag out completely, stir the black tea as fast as I can, slowly pour in the milk till it's the right colour and finally a counter stir.

Perfic!

Who told you that about northeners? I have never seen a person do that, whether it be in a cafe or at home. I have seen a fair amount of people make tea and not once have I seen it done like that, it's sheer madness!

Milk ruins tea, I've found. It just tastes like you're sipping on watered down cow spittle.

I like my tea with bite and taste.
